3TR was in Catterick. There was a camp near Richmond called Gallowgate. Bourlon lines were on the edge Catterick garrison. I was looking at a map of the camp but can't remember where. If you can remember where the WRAC billets were then Bourlon lines were near them, quite away from camp centre. There was a little chip shop not far from the main gate. 5 TR was driver traing at Ripon.

The absolutely huge 'moan about cyclists' megathread
prioryx replied to a topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
We already have variable speed limits on roads Now pay attention. 20 mph 30 mph 40 mph 60 mph the national speed limit and 70 mph on motorways. all these speeds are signed so how many more do you want, most motorists cant' see the existing ones. PS the national speedlimit sign does not have the speed indicated on it. the assumption is that the driver has read the highway code. -
Flyer Wireless ops were trained at Bourlon lines 3TR. i know cos i was that soldier. 1954. 7TR was the basic training regt. It had Vimy lines for NS and Somme for regs. Vimy was the Sandhurst blocks and we poor regs were in the wooden spider blocks.

Not at all. They should have them fitted for all use. Riding on pavements should be punished and if persistent offending take the bike off them. i know I won't get out of the way of cyclist on the pavement. -

If the warning device on my car does not work them i am committing an offence, therefor cyclists should be compelled to have a warning device fitted to their bikes. This is especially if they are going to persist in riding on the pavements. -
St James church Norton - what happened to the graveyard?
prioryx replied to Garlic's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Most church yards have had the headstones taken down for health & safety reasons. Some kid was killed playing in a graveyard when headstone was pushed and fell on him. It costs too much to make them safe so they are taken down. I think that it is a shame as to provide a memorial in years gone by was very costly and there is now no marker where relatives are buried. -
How much of council tax goes on councillors expenses
prioryx replied to prioryx's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
If I thought I could end up with over £220k like the one in Northamptonshire yes. Having looked at Maps expenses do not forget that these are on top of their salary of £70k+. Local authority expenses are usually in the public domain for two days and i cannot find the Sheffield ones. -

A friend of mine in another area who was on the council told me of one member who gave up his job because he could make more on allowance and expenses. -

OK then what is the basic allowance? This is on top of expenses. I know that in some areas the basic is £10k. -
It would be a greater help to society if parents would teach their children to respect other people and teach them manners. there again they seem to lacking in some parents so they cant teach what they don't know.

Is not the standard of education higher in faith schools?

How many of these posters have children with PC games which depict violence. do they turn the telly off when a war film is shown. i do not think any service man wants to kill. If you are in a position to kill you are in a position to be killed. I know I didnt but could have done. More lorry drivers and reps have been killed on the roads in the last five years than service people.

I am more concerned by some members of the NUT wanting the Koran taught in schools by one of the Imams. What will be the reaction of Muslim faith schools if the Bible was a compulsory subject

I am a big believer in speed cameras but I think that they are blamed for causing accidents is, that when someone is flashed they get so annoyed that that is when they do something stupid and have the accident, or cause one

Added council tax for a view or on street parking
prioryx replied to prioryx's topic in General Discussions
If someone wants to a house in front of your house, blocking your view is not taken into consideration on your appeal, I am not sure if ancient lights still applies. Who decides what view is worth -
i read in the paper yesterday that the government are to propose the introduction of addition council tax if you have nice view or you have to park on the road IE. if you have a drive and garden you may have to pay for the pleasure. It looks like I will have to brick up my windows and turn my drive into a vegetable patch. It appears that the on street parking may be a reduction in tax.

Should Ghurkas have the right to live in the UK?
prioryx replied to borninsheffield's topic in General Discussions
Strange that we have nearly two thousand foreign criminals waiting to be sent back to their own countries, who I suppose we are having to keep in comfort, yet the government think it right to deport loyal ex servicemen. as for Boyfriday. has he ever met a Gurkha. They are the smartest soldiers I have come across and I have not seen any reports of drunkenness and yobo behavior by them. For every Gurkha we let stay deport twenty illegals. -
When the brewery's put the price of beer up a few weeks ago I did not see many complaints about that. Brewery's put the price up at least twice a year. One pub in the village but their beer up by 15 pence a pint working on the basis that as fewer people would be drinking he would keep his profit margins up by tripling the increase.
