  1. not sure to be honest but they were brilliant
  2. used to frequent the merrie england bar every friday and saturday 69/70 fantastic atmosphere in there but terrible beer sam smiths resident dj was ian gurney who i think was from birmingham sunday nights it was upstairs to the concert room saw all the top groups there including status quo 6 bob to get in lol but the best group by far was patto terry steeples had them booked every month on a sunday used to go in with mick rixon alan reed and keith waterhouse great crazy days
  3. ah thanks for those kind words blackhill i play bowls myself now since i retired wish i had started years ago really enjoy it used to go all over with titch when i was a kid to bowls matches ps were thinking of going to blackpool next year can you recomend a good guest house lol
  4. nice to hear from you if you dont mind me asking what is your name ? my dad (titch) was captain of both bowling and snooker team at the yew tree spent hours in yew tree back yard with a bottle of pop and packet of crisps lol also he used to take me with him to work sometimes on saturday mornings and then call at admiral rodney on way back home to shirecliffe unfortunately he died in 1982 was only 59 ended up having stroke after stroke but nice to hear from somebody who held him in high regard cheers
  5. my dad worked at wraggs and played for the crown green bowling team for over 30 years
  6. can remember playing abbey we won the sunday regional league 3 in 75 by .0006 of a goal and received the cup and medals at top rank suite unfortunately i had to shake hands with ken knighton to receive my medal will never forget him kicking everybody wearing a red and white shirt 6 foot in the air playing for hull at the lane in march 71

  8. my grandma lived on channing street house just after the church on the way up loved going to the corner shop at the top of channing street for spice
  9. brian thackery is a good crown green bowler as well i played for timbertop in sunday regional league between 71 and 75
  10. penrith road shirecliffe was a fantastic estate between 50s and 70s great community but started going astray in the 80s
  11. hi rob my wife was called june mennell in those days she remembers all the names youve mentioned
  12. yeah was lots of families all working at stanleys although they were not allowed to work in the same department
  13. anybody on here that worked in the warehouse at stanley tools in the 70 i worked on the finishing line with les westram and trevor godfrey before we were moved out to hellaby
  14. worked there 68 to 73 on guillotine then setting presses up our boss was brian cocker a relative of joe cocker
  15. you must have taken over guilotine duties after me mick think i remember you by that time i had taken over from brian cocker setting up the presses mary peart and janet worked on the 2 big machines and liz smith worked on the small one remember cliff with his little oil can lol and the guy in the basement was called tom he did a brilliant alf ippititimus impression you must have known june my future wife we started going out late 72 before i left in 73 for british steel job

  17. revill stimpson was the other part of the management team chris pickering had a brother that worked there as well cant remember his name but he had a pancho moustache
  18. actually got it wrong it would be year above us where did you live dobby anywhere near magnet ? i lived on penrith road shirecliffe bang opposite shirecliffe junior school

  20. yeah remember monica and chris pickering main management when i was there were mr adams and mr bott worked on same floor as mary walker mary peart steve else and ronnie dransfield
  21. hi went to shirecliffe secondary between 1963/67 and played for the football team anybody on here play during this period
  22. hi just wondering if anybody on here worked at joseph pickerings between 1968 and 1973 i worked on the 3rd floor initially on the guillotine then setting the presses before leaving in 73 brian cocker was the boss and met my future wife there june mennell in 1972
  23. hi vic dont know if you will remember me ken brocklehurst you once said i had muscles like oranges lol and can remember going to ideal homes exibition with you in 68 remember dennis the packer big horse race betting fan do you remember getting me that job at joseph pickerings ? anyway met my future wife june there in 72 and married in 75 hope your keeping well
