Sheffield City Centre - The Future

Grey to green scheme. IMO not a bad idea since we don't really need massive dual carriageways down there now. -
If I'm correct I think the post your talking about is mine That arcade in general, while now having 2 more restaurants, is still out of the way and has always been barren in terms of people. However I think a Five Guys on the main strip of The Moor would do very well as it is in a prime footfall location and surrounded by the shops its stereotypical customer (young people) would shop at. I see it more as a boost for footfall. Bit of a shame Ann Summers is shutting though. Hope that unit gets filled quick.

True it would probably liven in up a bit. However the way Meadowhall has been planned since the refurb is that each area is supposed to have a unique character. This is the reason why Flannels and Hugo Boss are down that end and Poundland and Wilko are up the other end, so it seems very unlikely to me. Also, they already have a large store nearby (Meadowhall Retail Park) which has been there for years while other retailers have come and gone so I can't imagine them moving.

The Light Cinema Restaurants
Chazza11JW replied to Chazza11JW's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Just heard that story. Very pleased with it. Now I think about it, the issue seamed to be with the old restaurants (Pizza Express and Zizzi) is they both had restaurants very close by in more popular areas (Pizza Express has one in Millennium Square and Zizzi has one in Leopold Square). I can see the way this area could recover is through offering something different instead of just the same old chains as the opening of this burger restaurant is doing. I hope some of the units that have always been empty start getting filled now the area has more going for it. -

The issue is even before the pandemic half units were unoccupied and showed no signs of becoming occupied. And they had been given plenty of time. -

Thanks I was unaware of this The remaining units are still an issue though. -
Does anyone see a future in the indoor arcade with the restaurants below the Light Cinema? It currently has only 1 restaurant (Nando's) and 7 empty units (4 of which have never been occupied) so seems like a bit of a failure to me.
