  1. If more people took ten minutes to watch Gina's video on the website, read a little more information, maybe dementia will be understood better in the future & not feared by many as it is now. Rather than assuming that our family members "don't have a clue" or "they're not interested in doing that anymore", let's learn how to deal with these situations to give our loved ones the best quality of life that we can.
  2. I noticed today that there's a give way for cycles too - so even they have to wait! No filter for them - I wouldn't fancy being a cyclist trying to get up to speed and turning into that road. It's bad enough as a driver. I do wonder why they decided to try it though? It's been that way for years and years, and to my knowledge - without any issues/problems?!
  3. Glad I found this thread. Dementia Friends is about understanding dementia & the little things you can do to help anyone with dementia - is someone at the bus stop needing help? Is someone at the supermarket getting their money muddled up? What tales are true about dementia? What are complete fiction? How does the brain work when dementia affects? Why do they remember from years ago but not yesterday? I'm a Dementia Friends Champion and deliver these one hour information sessions on a voluntary basis. Let me know if you would like me to deliver one for any of you.
  4. I've been S8 through and through... But now S17 lol... Oh well! Noticed it cordoned off last night about 6.30pm with plod van & car outside. Appeared to be open again today though. Twice in a year isn't a great stat...
  5. Am I right in thinking The Rude Shipyard is on the left on the corner before Wolseley Road? If so, I had fireworks thrown at my car (and any others that dared to pass) around seven/eight/nine years ago in the very same place. I reported it to 101 (or whatever it was then) as I was quite shaken up. They said they'd send someone... Again, they just run away once police approach.
  6. There's a Chinese takeaway, a hairdressers, a cafe and an insurance company (I think that's what it is). There are about 10 spaces & it's rare they're all taken at various times of the day.
  7. I'm 99% certain they don't, as the Community Hall is on the opposite side of the road and the parking (to be fair, it's a large patch of concrete with kerbs, so parking!) is outside the shops.
  8. Hi, The following company http://www.vehiclecontrol.co.uk have placed signs up in a place where I normally park to use the community hall opposite. I've done so for the last 9yrs and a week or two ago these signs have appeared, but I'm sure they're a load of rubbish! The parking area is outside some shops that have residential flats above them. The residents bit is round the back, and the area at the front has around 9 or 10 spaces that is used for the shops or the Community Hall opposite. A sainsburys local has opened recently (with its own spaces) and I'm wondering if this is why... The sign threatens a £100 fine, but talks about permits or tickets. There is no way you can purchase a ticket (no machines) and no details about how to obtain a permit. It also talks about terms and conditions, but there doesn't appear to be any. It says it is private property (possible, but no idea who it belongs to). Something doesn't sound right to me - any advice please?
  9. To ensure that fares are regulated, concessions get concessionary fares (many areas across the country have to pay half the adult fare), to ensure you have clean and maintained interchanges and shelters, to ensure timetables are printed and updated... Anything else? They aren't there to tell you where your not turned up bus is as they don't run them, they don't operate them not do they own them. If it's after 5pm it will be because the office at the bus company is closed, not much they can do. Can you imagine the phone lines at the bus company if every late/cancelled query was rang through? I'd much rather they were concentrating on getting as many buses out as possible than answering the phone, and Traveline operators having to call you back rather than answer calls.
  10. I have just driven past the middle shops, it certainly wasn't pitch black at any point, I could clearly see the pavement on both sides of the road and could have seen if anything was in my way. Having seen this thread I was keeping an eye out!
  11. Thanks for that However I was implying that it's a sorry state that others feel they have to check first... I wouldn't be one of those, I'm happy to say that I'm there to help (if I can). However, with my St John's qualification they cover you with their insurance for 'bystander first aid'. So like in this scenario rather than at your workplace or if you provided the service at an organised event.
  12. I've just looked back at some of the OP's previous posts. Back in April of this year (s)he defends bus drivers in several posts, stating that the drivers are there to drive and the enquiry number is for complaints etc. Practice what you preach?
  13. As I stated, my work items for the day are delivered there, not my normal post. It's like a courier service, but Royal Mail, and you collect from a sorting office.
  14. I live in Bradway. To get there via bus I would have to go into town (apx 35-40mins), then to Manor Top (apx 20mins). Then back again. A good 2hr round trip easily. Walking I can safely say isn't an option. I can't take someone with me as my partner is at work himself. I can't get my items redelivered as it isn't general post I collect from there, it's the items that I need to complete for my job for that day - which involves driving round which I need a vehicle for. I am not the only person that uses this office for that reason so as they provide the service maybe they should provide the facilities, like they used to? NB - I do not deliver post for my job!
  15. There is now no car park, there is limited on street parking which is often full, especially during school time. Asda car park is for Asda customers so let's say we can't park there. Where do you suggest I park?
  16. It's been like that for a while. Few months at least. Very difficult as there is limited on street parking - and technically Asda parking is for Asda customers! Not all of it's customers are within walking distance.
  17. St Peter's church hall, Reney Avenue S8 Bradway Community Hall, Bradway Rd S17 If you send me a PM I can provide contact details for both. Also, Tenants hall, Gresley Road S8 (forum user BassettOne may be able to help with this one) The Michael Church, Lowedges Road S8
  18. It's a sorry state when you need to be insured to provide first aid when you're the first on the scene. You shouldn't have to worry about if you'll get sued before trying to save someone's life. Can someone check if I'm insured please? This person is bleeding to death but I need to ensure I'm insured first. Ridiculous really.
  19. Precisely! First Aid is First Aid, regardless of where you had your training. I don't remember seeing a 'bystander first aid' or 'happen to be there first aid'!
  20. It does have an impact.... The last one asked for the maximum allowance on Council Tax levy, therefore my council tax went up.... Buffoon. Unfortunately, as I've just moved house im currently not registered, I've just missed out. However, I'd be more likely to spoil my paper as I do not believe in a political biased representative, as they all are.
  21. A) correct B) It depends on the type of heart attack.
  22. If you purchase an AED from St John ambulance they will come and train 5 (I think??) bamed people in how to use it, for free. However, as mentioned, they are fool proof and tell you where to stick the pads, what to do next, when it is going to shock and IF it is going to shock. However, yes, CPR is needed and basic first aid is required (although 999 staff would talk someone through this - if a life is at risk anyway it's better to try and fail than to not to try at all). Seek guidance from St Johns, British Red Cross etc.
  23. I have a Ford with built in DAB. I can't say I've experienced this problem. It drops out occasionally, but certainly not regularly. The only place it does it regularly is just after the crossroads at the top of Mottram Moor on the way to Manchester.
