  1. You do all realise that optometrists are trained at university and not by their place of work don't you? So they all have the same training and exams to pass, they have the same yearly training requirements, and are all governed by the same council? So by stating 'Asda' or 'Specsavers' is not recommending a particular person, only a store. Same with an Independant, two customers may not have been seen by the same optometrist.
  2. It does, but sometimes there are specialist needs that certain homes specialise is.
  3. Hi! We have a rather old, silver decorative sword that's been handed to us through the family. It's got what appears to be a brass handle. The silver 'blade' is full of beautiful decorative pattern but time has taken it's toll and the patterns have blackened and are barely visible. We've tried using silver polish which has helped slightly, but not much. We're hoping we can display it in the house but wondered if there was anywhere within Sheffield that may be able to polish it up better for us?
  4. That's great - but is there a specific nursing need? Again, some will specialise in certain areas.
  5. You need to find out the type of care she needs nursing/residential/dementia/specialist - not all care homes offer or specialise in these areas. This is a great start to narrow down the cast list. Then look at carehome.co.uk - this will list all details including access to the latest CQC report (like OFSTED is for schools).
  6. Didn't John Lewis used to refund the cost of your parking ticket if you made a purchase in store?
  7. Correct. Two totally different people.
  8. I was there - NOT Toby Foster, but Ted Robbins who plays Den Perry. Toby Foster came out to the audience to say show was cancelled & please leave the building.
  9. Hi - I caught the 25A from town to St Peter's Church - they're turning around there and going back towards town. I think the 76 is doing the same. To drive on, Greenhill Parkway doesn't look bad - or it didn't at 7pm!
  10. My partner measured 8 inches in our garden at Bradway this afternoon :-/
  11. Did this happen last night? We went to use the cash machine about 10.30 and saw a police car drive away. Several staff stood in the front of the store chatting - I just thought they were closing up! Can't believe it's happened again though. Didn't Sainsburys at Gleadless get robbed recently?
  12. Exactly! Hence my "why fix something that isn't broken" comment.
  13. As have already explained, myself and others find it more dangerous now than it was previously.
  14. Why fix something that isn't broken? That slip road has been like that for as long as I can remember. I find it much more difficult turning into the road now than I did previously.
  15. The Christmas dos I attended when I worked there were neither at the City Hall nor paid for by the company - that was around ten years ago.
  16. What a ludicrous statement! Regardless of where the person lives, the one who did the deed could be from anywhere!
  17. I'm not sure if this would pass as a dog, and the location is a few miles apart, but if Finn the dog can be found in a different town altogether it's always worth a try!
  18. We had a drive along last night - they look absolutely brilliant. A great effort!
  19. Will be a shame to see the TICs close. I worked in them many years ago (and Traveline). They were always busy, lovely regular customers - back when OAPs could buy a weekly pass and they had to issue the OAP passes. Lots of daytrippers wanting information about how to get about, coach tickets and even holidays. Can completely understand how today's world has changed them though.
  20. Just another pointer - both of my OHs were done on the NHS but were contracted out to Claremont/Thornbury due to their workload. He wasn't given a choice, just told that's what was going to happen.
  21. Jez Brown - that's his name! (See my post above!)
  22. My OH had both his ACLs done in the last 4yrs. First was at Claremont but I can't remember the surgeons name. The other was at Thornbury this year and I'm sure it was Mr Brown - pleasant chap, wounds healed quickly, was back on his feet & off crutches much quicker than last time & swelling and bruising nowhere near as bad, so thumbs up from us.
  23. Fantastic! You can become a dementia friend online at http://www.dementiafriends.org.uk or look for a local session that you can attend - all details on the same website
  24. Creating an 'action' that you will commit to follow - can be as small as offering to help someone in the supermarket count their coins as they've got in a muddle (rather than just standing and getting annoyed). Some Journalists have committed to never using the term 'dementia sufferer'. A small change for them but a huge impact on those who read their material. Take a look at the 'About' section on the website.
