  1. Hi there, I can pass you the details, but tests within the hospital must be paid for privately, even if they are entitled to a free eye test on the NHS. Please let me know if I can help any further.
  2. I can only see two, but doesn't mean one isn't out of camera shot in the hidden corner. The two are very close to that area.
  3. Do Meersbrook fall into the catchment of Meadowhead secondary?
  4. Surely the catchment depends on where you live, and not simply what primary school you attend? The journey to former AGS site from Meersbrook by public transport would be an interesting one. Even from Woodseats it's not that straight forward - a walk from the bottom of Woodseats Road. Not sure I'd be opting for this new school when my kids could get a bus that stops almost directly outside Meadowhead. It's a doable walk, one I did many times myself at AGS, but when it's cold and raining it's certainly not an enjoyable one. Can always jump on another bus, but it cost all adds up.
  5. I left in 2000, and like a previous poster I was there when the article in The Guardian was published. It was hardly at its best when I attended yet I stand by my comments - I found it to be a great school and I benefited from the education I received.
  6. Which is a shame, because many of us found it to be a great school and benefited from the education we received.
  7. English was a second language for many at AGS, where I attended. It didn't affect me as I didn't let it. I wanted to learn and wanted to succeed so made sure I did and I was fully supported by teachers. Would these people refuse for their child to be treated by an 'ethnic' doctor or nurse?
  8. I saw a sign on Arundel Gate today. It's for Sport Relief and think it was one day next weekend.
  9. Yes! Vision Aid Overseas and Sightsavers are two of the main ones. Contact your local opticians or any in town and ask them if they take donations. Many of them have collection boxes and send them off periodically.
  10. Not sure if they do, but these are definitely worth a try: http://www.elegance-music.co.uk
  11. I had to lodge a complaint with a home care agency after they left my nan with no carers for 24hrs - the person who received the notification from the hospital was on holiday and hadn't left access to her emails... The company were going through serious problems at the time. You can lodge a complaint with social services if you don't get anywhere with the care agency themselves.
  12. St Luke's collected ours. Many charities do, but will often only take it if they're in a saleable condition.
  13. Steer clear of Sharps! We used Starlight (J Horns) in 2011. Was £2000 for a 2 door sliding fitted wardrobe, 3 panels with a mirror across the middle. Was designed, and fitted to spec. Every step was fantastic - no hard sell, no push. Came to do a quote and no pestering afterwards. Have moved house since but would have no hesitation using them again.
  14. We sometimes have a small white truck do the rounds with a man in a high viz vest and clipboard jumping out if they see a roof that may need a tile replacing, or guttering. The truck has lots of brand logos on the side of it - roofing trade logos. However my OH works in roofing and I spotted one logo was for a trader - why would they have that on when they're not that company, along with manufacturing brands?! Needless to say I don't believe them to be genuine!
  15. Thanks. This is the difficulty - she can't phone them herself, she won't allow us to do POA, and the bank will only allow us limited access to her account without POA! We've managed to sort them all except this one, and I just can't find any details anywhere. Puzzling! ---------- Post added 05-01-2016 at 19:32 ---------- Hi, thanks. It's definitely DASS. Good shout about an add on - another avenue to explore!
  16. Hi all, My nan's bank statement has a direct debit for £5 each month with the reference "Dass cover" - unfortunately, nobody has any idea what Dass cover is! We can't find any paperwork for it and I can't find anything on Google. It could be for satellite TV cover (she has several of them!) or appliance cover. Any help or ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks
  17. I had a letter from them today to say they're 'relocating' to Saville St. More like closing down and Saville St absorbing the Archer Road business.
  18. I echo the above. My grandma is also in a care home in Sheffield. They have about 40-50 beds. There are about 20 spaces, maybe more. Everytime I've been there has been no more than 5 spaces taken.
  19. You can't at the BP at Meadowhead neither. Maybe it's a BP thing?
  20. I was hoping for Southampton for business purposes, but great to see some good tourist destinations! Just hope prices stay reasonable. Holidays are always considerably more expensive from Doncaster than East Mids or Manchester.
  21. Hi all, We (family) need to think about getting Power of Attorny (or whatever it's called these days) sorted for my nan who is now in a care home. She has capacity to make her own decisions, but isn't in a position to be able to easily handle her own affairs anymore. We've been dealing with paying bills/going to the cash point etc, but I know from previous experience that as the years go on, should her health seriously deteriorate we will struggle to be able to deal with some companies without the official paperwork in place. Nan is happy for this to happen. For example, we can't pay her rent or council tax on her behalf unless she has registered us with the council, which means a signature on a form, that we've done several times and they keep losing! So - where do we start?! One of the council finance people we saw recently told us not to bother, and just get 'appointeeship' from the DWP, but my understanding of this is that it will only cover anything relating to DWP & benefits - not much use. Has anyone had this experience recently, how much is it roughly, what's the process & how long will it take? To cancel bills at the moment I'm phoning up to cancel and my mum is pretending to be my nan when they want to speak to her! It's not right, but is the only way we can at the moment (nan doesn't have the patience to do this with us).
  22. I got caught in this - 5.5hrs to the outskirts of Coventry! As I returned home and passed the scene at apx 5pm it was still closed as they needed to resurface. I think the estimated opening time was between 7-8pm. Very tragic tale of events.
