Hi davexl5.The first man on the scene was FLT/SNT Clem Payne.He ran past Dad as Dad was parking the car having seen the Fortress crash. Dad was a managing clerk in a solicitors office by day but was an ambulance officer during the war. Obviously trained in first aid he rushed to see if there was anything he could do together with Clem Payne. I do not recall Dad speaking of another rescuer on crutches but these are things that were not really discussed in front of children.Father wrote a report of the rescue which I now have and this is what I base my first hand knowledge on. There are also some quite distressing facts that Father later recounted to me that I am not prepared to share on this forum. There is a photograph of the crash scene where I believe my Dad is shown in the foreground wearing a large light coloured coat. Kind Regards Brian

Good to see that the 80th anniversary is not going unnoticed.Well done for arranging the fly past for Thursday 22nd February. We will be there as I have a special interest as my Father was one of the first people on the scene after the bomber crashed in Endcliffe Park.My father and another man rescued the rear gunner who was still alive when they got him out but sadly died shortly after. The 75th anniversary was something really special and although the fly past will be two american fighters this anniversary still needs to be recognised. Kind Regards Brian

Hi Rockers, The car in the photo is not a Daimler Dart.I had seven Daimler Darts in my time and they did not have a flat topped rear wheel arch.The car in the picture I would guess is a Ford 10 Special with a Typhoon fibre glass body,but it is only a guess. Kind Regards Bri

Hi cuttsie Sorry for not replying sooner, too much falling down water. I dont know about being well off the Morgan was £12 10 shillings as a non runner, cleaned the carb and with help from Phil and Roy at Chapman auto electrics they got the mag sparking again a car for £20 quid all in. Yes, Went there in the early sixtys, in the morgan 3 wheeler , Johnny cowperthwaite with the ss i jaguar Alan Ashford on his Triumph 21 Dave willouby on the velocete venom. Saw Lenny Singlton and Mike Spedding the only two I can remember in the Vulcans,great times. regards Brian Hardy.

The only special tool needed to replace the cam belt on any make of vehicle is a bottle of tipp ex. Any decent mechanic shoud be able to time the valves without special tools ,the special tools just make it easier. Regards Brian.

Hi, The first man on the scene was an airman, Flight /Sargent Clem. Payne, who lived on Ruslings Road very closely followed by my father Henry Hardy,a civil defence ambulance officer who happend to be driving past,between them they rescued the rear gunner who was alive when they found him but unfortunatly died soon afterwards. kind regards, Brian.

Hi Cuttsie Several nice cars including Triumph TR3A,(£120.00) Jaguar XK150(£120.00) Jaguar MK11 3.8 (£300.00) E Type Jag (£400.00) 1932 Ford V8 which I rebuilt but initial price was £ 12.10 shillings and for my 21st birthday I had a mini van which came in handy having lots of room in the back if you get my drift!!!!!!!!! The old bulls head Little Hucklow. What memories I have of that pub I had my 21st birthday in the cave, 12 november 1964. the landlord was John stacey unfortunatly Icant remember John wifes name,She was a lecturer at pond st collage and my then girl friend was a student there. We eventully found it and it became our local, 15 miles from home.I spent a lot of money in that pub.but a lot more in petrol to get there. We were to be found in there every Friday Saturday and Sunday and had some very hairy trips back home to Millhouses,even the snow didnt put us off.I have wonderful memories of all the special cars myself and my mates drove,all the lads were characters and laughs were guaranteed.Happy days. Hi I started work as an apprentice at ESC easter 1959, on the first day the apprentice supervisor Tommy Eyre took us on a tour of the works witch ended in the canteen at no. 1gate. He then went on to tell us all about the sports and social clubs etc ,no being a sporty person this didnt interest me much until he said there was a gun club at Ecclesfield. I had always wanted to try clay shooting so I made enqiries and spoke to the guy who ran the club, sorry its not a clay shoot its a rifle club he said,but come and have a look anyway we need new members. I turned up the next Saturday morning and to my complete surprise they were shooting big 303 lee enfields I had expected air rifles. Now can any body remember were this rifle range was in Ecclesfield,I am afaid I have no idea. Regards, Brian.

I didnt say I dropped my grandson off outside his school, I dont drive past his school or any other school for that matter on principle. Now 25years of being green ( your figures) my green history goes all the way back to 1984 and I can assure you my green history is a lot greener than yours I built a windmill that powered electricity via a repurposed battery bank,this provided all the lights in the house. I built an inverter that converted 24volts to 240 volts for mains power. We had a generator that was only used when absolutley neccessary and when it was in use I built a cooling system from it that heated the house. I have also invented an engine that will produce nil emmissions and am in the process of getting this in the market place. How dare you call me a hypocrite . Brian

So, Every thursday morning I drop off my little 5 yr old grandson at his school St Maries as far as annie bynnol is concerned this makes me a hypocrite i.e a man who says one thing and does another. Ms bynnol has no idea who I am or what I do in life, and I take this name calling as a personal insult with no regards. Brian.
