  1. Now thats out of the way, a little straightening of the record for those not in the know.... In Taekwondo competitions you are not allowed to punch people in the face. Why would you need to, when you can kick them in the face just as quickly and with more power? However.... In the other components of Taekwondo punching (and elbowing, etc, etc) the face is permitted, and in some cases encouraged. Furthermore, if self defence only came down to lamping someone in the face, why would people fight? Think about it, if it was that simple everyone would know how to do it, and so every attacker would know their chances were zero. But defending yourself is far more complicated than that, there are to many variables to mention in a posting. This posting was not done in order to start another flame war, it was written to put the record straight.
  2. Right, thats it. I was hoping that this flame war would just run out of energy and calm down, it hasnt. I started this thread to bring attention to a club i was starting, instead it has turned potential students away. Thank you one and all. If you still feel the need to launch broadsides against each other, please do so by personal message, e-mail or start your own thread. From now, any posting which isnt connected directly to the original posting will be brought to the moderators attention in order to get is deleted, as this bickering is harming my hard earnt reputation, and everything that martial arts stand for. Please feel free to post if you want any information about my classes.
  3. Not im my TKD lessons, that type of student either gets fed up of having to learn the basics, or realises that martial arts arnt really like that, and starts to put the effort, concentration and above all, humility in to their training.
  4. *** Just as a reminder*** These classes have started in earnest, and the hall can take a suprising amout of people, so if you are curious about TKD, or have an existing desire to learn you can contact me (my details are on my profile) or if you want you can just turn up.
  5. Over the past few days ive had some phone calls from interested people saying that they may just turn up on the night. Sorry to sound harsh but i would prefer if people didnt just appear for the first night's training, i need an idea of how many will be comming so that i can properly plan a class and bring the right amount of equipment.
  6. Ive always been taught that TKD is a "way" not a pure single path. One example is one step sparring, where its considered "right" if it would work - it doesnt have to be exact (except in gradings of course). There is one exception - patterns, but thats obvious. All that said, i am passionate about TKD (both learing and teaching), and as long as everyone tries their hardest im happy - so i try not to get too bogged down in politics.
  7. It will be on Tuesdays..if enough turn up then eventually this will be extended to another night of the week. No, im nothing to do with the one in Hillsborough
  8. The above post makes it sound like i am wanting someone to come with me to grenoside to teach this is not correct..i am in rotherham and am hoping to come to grenoside to teach martial arts if anyone either from this forum or anyone you may know is interested.
  9. No, i live in Rotherham and am hoping if anyone is interested to come to Grenoside to teach.
  10. Thanks for the interest, its nice to know there is someone out there If this class takes off, i will bring in another session on another day at another time (i believe that you need to practice more than once a week anyway) so you might be able to attend that one.
  11. I am a 1st Dan..but have stalled my grading to concentrate on instructing. However i am a very well trained 1st Dan with more experience and ability than some 2nd or 3rd Dans. This is comfortably high enough to train most people as there is about a 90% drop off by the time people reach their black belt.
  12. On the 7th of March I will start teaching WTF Taekwondo in Grenoside. Classes will be run at the Grenoside Community Centre starting at 6:30 and running till 7:30. The training will suit any age, at any fitness or technical level. If you apply yourself you will enjoy yourself, become more confident, better co-ordinated and fitter. I offer the full WTF training syllabus, ranging from effective self defence to olympic style sparring and all of the other disciplines inbetween. As I am part of a large (over 600 members now) and well organised (we can take part in Olympic selections - if youre good enough) TKD club i can offer a stable training environment, with a good chance for training/sparring/competing with others, competitions (for example) are run at interclub, local, regional, national and international venues and standards. Being a fully qualified BTC instructor, I have also had a police CRB check (enhanced version). So, if you want to learn TKD or if you are just curious either contact me (i think i have made my e-mail address available) or post on this thread. I hope to see you next month.
