  1. I think the Tories are losing the debate on low tax. People appreciate being able to pay their bills but they realise it doesn't get you a personal physician or your own police officer. And if your landlord thinks you've got more money in your pocket they might well just put your rent up.
  2. Yeah it's a fair point. I noticed an article recently where graffiti saying something like Judaism Is Not Zionism was described as anti-Semitic.
  3. But very limited evidence of actual fraud.
  4. Donning my tin foil hat for a moment, is there much interest among the ruling class for financial education among the wider population, when debt serves useful political purposes in keeping people in their place? Some Republican senator made very telling remarks not long ago about the importance of student loan debt in funneling people into the armed forces. I know that's America but their politicians are pretty much on the same page as ours, right?
  5. I was at a meeting where Peter Price spoke about ten years ago and he seemed way out of his depth then, I can't imagine it's got any better in the meantime.
  6. This is a thread about Rochdale. And George Galloway / the British Workers Party, supposedly.
  7. As I posted in that thread, the independent report found the failure to act was due to a combination of incredibly poor safeguarding processes and the police believing the girls were somehow choosing to be abused, no evidence of people not doing anything due to fear of being called racist. But you can check in that thread if you want, let's not derail this one into yet another thread about CSE.
  8. Yeah, the article says it's been closed since February and part of the ceiling fell in, revealing asbestos. Therefore, a very odd thing for @cuttsie to say.
  9. I don't think that's strictly true - there's Carver Street, which is a magnet for people looking for trouble after too many drinks, but other than that yeah, it's fine.
  10. Went out for a meal on West Street with the family last night, came out of the restaurant at about 21.00, it was really quiet. I guess that's the cost of living crisis biting, it didn't used to be like that. God knows how anyone is making a living in the night time economy at the moment.
  11. For me it's a bit like hidden Nazi treasure or 'big cat' sightings. You know it's not that likely but you want it to be true. And some progress is being made, it's just for a lay person like me it's hard to know how much exactly.
  12. Nuclear fusion obviously, not jazz fusion. For years, nuclear fusion as a viable source of energy was derided and its proponents dismissed as cranks. I never felt able to take a side because my brain no do science, but I have been interested in the steady advances made in fusion over the last few years, with the first net gain in energy (getting more out than was needed to create the reaction) being reported, albeit a small gain. Now there is another important step forward being claimed. I've no skin in this game, so if you're a fusion skeptic don't beat on me but tell me what makes you skeptical. I'm mainly interested because a) who wouldn't find the idea of potentially endless, clean, safe energy exciting, and b) it's interesting to see a field of research that was seen as wacky getting investment and seemingly making progress.
  13. Utter bolloques. Do you know which is the most crime-ridden area of the UK? Cleveland Do you know what percentage of Cleveland's population is white? 96%. Poverty is the main cause of crime, not religion.
  14. Don't suppose he mentioned Islamophobic hate towards London's mayor?
  15. Is he down to his last 20 mil? Was he asking for some help?
  16. Here is evidence of you having asked this question before. I'm not going to spend some of my time looking for my contributions to that discussion, you can do that if you want.
  17. No, you can take it as I think you and I did that topic ages ago and I don't feel the need to do it again at your command.
  18. Yep. And a long history on the neo-Nazi right.
  19. Pretty sure we already did this one some time ago, you can look it up if you need to.
  20. Williamson's expulsion from Labour for anti-Semitism was one of the justified ones. The fact that he won't distance himself or his party from Nick Griffin - a person with a documented history of anti-Semitism - says a lot.
  21. Isopropyl alcohol is generally good for stuff like this, I've used it to clean off sellotape residue and the like.
  22. That's a disingenuous response. Hamas took control of Gaza by force and the appropriate comparison with Nazi Germany is 1933/34, when Hitler was chancellor but not in power, but seized effective control after the Reichstag fire. Not 1936.
