  1. Well done, Milton Keynes is in Bedfordshire.
  2. That's just one example though. There is a current fad for schools where kids are not allowed to talk in the corridors when going between classes, don't get to choose who they sit next to at lunch, have to be silent in classrooms except when speaking to the teacher and are sent home for minor uniform infractions. I went to school in the 70s and 80s and there was nothing like that then.
  3. Schools are far more about rules and discipline now than they were when I went to school.
  4. Article here Totally horrible man trying to outdo himself?
  5. In the title and the post? I don't think so.
  6. For very principled and sound reasons though - they don't want to facilitate ethnic cleansing. And let's not forget that there are plenty in Israel, including in the government, who have their eyes not just on the Palestinian territories but further afield.
  7. "Smooth and velvety" - Tommy Walsh
  8. Isn't Gullis the patsy they often put in front of a TV camera when some minister or other has done something indefensible but he manages to defend it anyway, without actually laughing or openly sniffing poppers on TV to cope with his cognitive dissonance (and unreasonably tight rectum)?
  9. Sounds like an absolute piece of pis$, hard to see what the problem is.
  10. In London the issue is that most people don't work effectively with the police because the Met are incapable of working effectively with them, as highlighted in the Casey report.
  11. All the things that got de-funded by austerity because they were funded by local authorities.
  12. Is the monument as enormous as it looks in that photo? Wouldn't want that in the city centre.
  13. It's worth remembering that when Police and Crime Commissioners were introduced, many (most?) people from all over the political spectrum said they were ineffectual and unnecessary positions. Which I think is true. But that would mean that primarily laying the blame for crime in London at Khan's door, as all the right-wing UK media do, would be irrational. It's interesting that Khan, not the Met Police commissioner, is the individual most blamed for London's crime rate in the media.
  14. Yeah it's an issue in lots of places and I wouldn't seek to trivialise it, but neither would I seek to pretend it's only an issue in London and it's all the fault of ONE EVIL BROWN MAN just to try to squeeze a few votes for a party who couldn't care less about mostly young black and brown men being stabbed. A sense of proportion and realism is important.
  15. I thought maybe they got you to make it Al, it seems to fit with your perception of London. The figures (i.e. the number of crimes per 100,000 of the population) are relatively high but there are much smaller places in the UK with worse crime and antisocial behaviour, so given London's size they're not dreadful. Doesn't help that they have literally the worst police force in the country.
  16. Just had to check it's not April 1st. That is the most unhinged thing I've seen in a loooong time. ULEZ enforcers forcing people to stay inside and gaze longingly out the window 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  17. What's the betting this torture gets a 'confession' that Ukraine paid them to do it?
  18. I checked the Land Registry and the owner of 481 is indeed Travis Perkins.
  19. I mean, it's worth remembering that Putin is the man who assured everyone that he definitely wasn't going to invade Ukraine. He's one of the least trustworthy people in the world.
  20. Well I can't fault you for these honest answers. Would be good to see more of this all round - people understanding the difference between knowing and believing.
