  1. You can get larger metric size doors think howdens do them in some ranges. Think largest is 926 x 2040 you could poss make this work using a thicker lining or pack off lining then covering gap with architraves.
  2. Hard cores also have a good display just off harries rd.
  3. Tools stolen from back of van whilst in wickes bottom of Rutland Road at 4.00 pm thursday, was only in wickes 5 mins,no sign of forced entry, must have been sat watching as went in.
  4. Rafters run the length of the roof from the wall plate upto the ridge . Purlins run horizontal in the roof space and the rafters sit on these, lats go on top of rafters and are what tiles are fixed to. Speak to council regarding insulation as different inspectors will approve different methods, my current job is a large conversion on London Rd and we have had 100mm in between rafters crossed with 25mm approved. Also make sure you bolt the doubled up rafters together at each side of velux.
  5. Had many loft conversions passed with single cross batten by both council and approved inspectors so long as it is crossed across the rafters and not along the length of them thus minimising crush affect of superquilt.
  6. The method you have stated is correct however the depth of insulation is not adequate.to meet current building regs you need 100mm in between crossed with 25mm underneath.you do not require battens just fix direct to underside of joist. As you have 75mm rafters this will not work for you as it won't in most terrace homes circa 1900, what should suffice is 50mm king span in between rafters with yes super quilt fixed to underside of rafters then a 25mm cross batten fixed side to side under super quilt. Building control should be involved as will won't to see doubled up rafters either side of value and insulation. Council building control probably cheapest fir this at about 100.00 hope this helps. 7. you can buy kingspan in cavity batt size 1200 x 450 this is the smallest i am aware of. they come in packs of between 6 / 10 depending what thickness but wickes sell 50mm individaully.
  8. never read so much nonsense in a thread in the 4 years been using the forum. been a self employed builder 18 years you can not even pay cash on delivery at most builders merchants any more let alone cheque. been stung twice by customers going bust on me costing me £3500 and £15,000 most of these losses where due to the fact that i put materials on my account and thus when i did not get paid i stiil had to settle may accounts. to assume a builder should fund your project for you and carry all the risk is in my opinion not acceptable. you would not go to work and then pay for the priverlidge untill your boss was happy to pay you. we allways ask for a payment the day works commence (normally around 20/30%) then stage payments at pre agreed stages ( these are normally at the building inspection stages) not all builders are conmen as tv would make you think. best advice is to use a builder that is recomended.

  11. P.S I'm not even local to him, I travel from Loxley!! I was initially recommended by a pet shop in Hillsborough!!
  12. Hi I have seen your post about Alan and I am definately 100% in agreement with you that he deserves an MBE, I will definately give a testimonial, I absolutely love Alan, he as cared for my dog for many years now, she has always been ill and needs constant medication, he as operated on her an said she probably wouldn't make it but did, she was ill with gastric problems and he treated her, he always gives us the best care and advice ever, never tires of her problems, and is constantly professional and caring with her. I have also called him regarding putting my mums cat to sleep at home, she had never had to take her cat to the vet before and within a couple of hours he was there for us, and didn't rush us when he arived, but talked to us for a while even after, nothing is too much trouble, he has his own family but you always feel that he puts our animals first, he is genuinely an amazing man, a credit to his family who I'm sure are as proud of him as we all are!! Count me in if you find out more about nominating him for an MBE!! Keeley and Bacardi x
