Although I believe I am clear, ten needles taking samples, just means that they couldn't find any cancer. They could have missed it.

I hope not pal, but I would defer to those who know more about this area - I'm just glad that you are part of  this commuity that helps and informs others.  All the best going forward!

  2. We know we'll be losing out (again), but by the same token we are looking at the leading scorer at Middlesborough who is also in the last year of his contract, and available at around the same price.  I can't see us beating Everton or Palace to his signature, but who knows - both of them are (like us) chasing numerous targets.

Very odd decision to sell to them unless the money will be used for a player or two. I can't read the article so not sure what the fee would be but if it's around the 10 million mark then I can't see you finding a player as good for around that price.

Fee rumoued to be around £12m.  We turned down around what we paid for him a year or so ago, but he's in the final year of his contract.  IF he goes for a figure around that, I only hope we insist on a hefty sell-on clause, or we could really miss out in future if he goes to a top 6/ top European club.

  4. Well, before the big KO, the Blades have lost their main asset to the French league, so we've got to do all we can to hold onto the other main asset (Hecky).  The Owls apparently were outclassed by Southampton, but only lost by the odd goal.  They will face far weaker teams than that one in this league, so shouldn't get dispirited.

It's a pity that clubs have to divide their resources between planning for matches and doing transfer business, but that's how it is, so there will be squad changes for both I guess before the deadline.

    Interesting times ahead........

Having thought this through for a few seconds, I have come up with a great idea.  If the above comes to fruition, there will be a serious shortage of grass clippings, as everybody will be using them to fuel their cars.  I'm going to start hoarding my grass clippings from now on in readiness, then I will make a killing!

So how do you explain the phenomenon of the sliding beer bottle in "Padders Bar" ?

Speaking of Padders Bar, how come the door is jammed shut?  I've been trying it for the last 10 minutes!

  7. I only joined the Forum around Covid time, and it kept me from going stir crazy!  Often there are threads that get to be slanging matches, but I stick with it for the genuine information about things happening locally, the real-life stories of times gone past, the connections from those in need of a chat, and the banter that still often lifts my spirits.  I don't use Facer, Twitbook, Snapface and the others, just prefer SF to MSN for a different perspective.  Long live SF!

  8. I carry a wallet, am often criticised/laughed at for not paying for everything by card, but try not to look too superior when (as I've seeen happen often), the Visa system isn't working, and there is a panic with people trying to borrow money/going home to get cash/look for the nearest cashpoint (which of course is often well away, and also may not be working).

Only wind up needed , is a wind up radio.

it's not often I agree with you Hackey , but you've hit it right on the noggin there chum - instead of batteries, he could use Padders Power - thus saving money and also getting fitter to pull more pints for me in the Bar.  Win Win!!

  10. Just think what you could do with the money you saved if you didn't get a decent electrician to do a decent job and fit said power socket where apparently safety laws forbid it in the first place..........perhaps even buy a decent DAB radio and some batteries?

If you do not take this advice, I would suggest you double-check your will, especailly the bit about who you would leave the famous Padders Bar to.  You really ought to make important arrangements like that are in place when considering mixing things like water and electricity.

    ‘He’s eleven pence three farthings’

    Meaning not a full shilling.

The version I've heard a lot over the years is calling someone "sixpence", or even worse "threepence".  Similar idea - not a full shilling, but 3d is far worse than 6d!!  You can use how many pence someone is to to say how far short of a full shilling you estimate the person in question to be!

Modern version?  "a sandwich short of a picnic" and others

  12. I can just imagine inside Just StopOil HQ -

"Well, we've got all these top events queuing up to give us tickets and free access so we don't get stopped by security, so we "distupt" their events just so they get extra publicity.  Which shall we choose? "
