I lived at 139 Neil Road Hunters Bar from 1954 - 1959 our next door neighbours was Mrs Flo Shipston she worked at the Chip Shop in Sharrow Vale Road Mr & Mrs Sherwood , I had a Saturday job with Walter Sharp in the Fruit and Vegetable Shop , a Real Treat would be buying a Chocolate Eclair from Mrs Shaw in the old fashioned Bakery Shop , I went to Hunters Bar School Mr Taylor with his cricket bat if you were caught talking in class, my dad would send me for a block of ice cream to the lollipopery Mr Green at the Pet Food Shop Mr & Mrs Heath at the corner shop Pat Heath their daughter was my first girlfriend then Mr Elms TV Shop and they had a daughter called Jacky I remember snogging with her in the stock room behind the shop , Mr Holmes The Cycle Shop all the lads used to congregate there with their bikes , I joined the Church Lads Brigade with Michael Bentley and another friend was Michael Wright he was always fooling around in class at school and we all went on to Silverdale School at Bents Green

I attended Silverdale Secondary Modern from about 1957 to 1961 for me it was a wonderful school Mr Biggin Was The Headmaster Mr Shooter deputy head Mr Taylor Mr Wasnage Music I always thought he was somewhat extravert with his sideburns he looked like a composer he certainly taught music well Mr Glen PE teacher Mr Wood I remember also I think Mrs Frith also that fabulous art teacher she was very attractive. Martin Pedlar who lived on the Long Line Dore was one of my school pals Also Peter Shircliffe Michael Bentley Stephen Groombridge he was a wonderful cricket player Prudence Mountain Head Girl , we had a fantastic choir The Silverdale Singers , I remember Barbara Talbot Pat Heath Michael Wright two sisters who where very good swimmers Jacky & Vicky???? Mr Horn My Name is Michael Astill I played the Trumpet along with Richard Howson & David Hatfield we did a fantastic concert at the City Hall with the choir we played And sang Sound The Trumpet be great to catch up with anyone that remembers me

I joined the JTC first with my School Friend Michael Bentley we went I think on a Wednesday Evening to Clifford Road School , I enjoyed it very much especially the marching & drills and then I was made lance corporal and became interested in playing the bugle in the Band , Tony Heath ran it , I remember John Clayton was a fantastic drummer on the front row , on the back row was three cavalry trumpets and Tony Heath played a proper valve trumpet, we used to join up with CLB at St Peters & St Oswalds but marching around the streets was amazing lots of people by their front door clapping, I have wonderful memories of those days wouldn’t it be great if someone remembers me Michael Astill from Neil Road Hunters Bar now age 73
