  1. When the Sheffield yellow pages arrives each year, I get my son and few of his mates to help me carry it to the bin and chuck it in.
  2. "Geminids meteors can be seen anytime after 10 p.m. local time, when the constellation Gemini is well above the horizon, but the best time to look is during the early morning hours between about 2 a.m. and dawn. That's when the local sky is pointing directly into the Geminid meteor stream. The radiant of the Geminid shower is located near Castor, one of the two bright stars in Gemini (the other bright star is Pollux). To find the constellation at 2:00 a.m., go outside and face south. Castor and Pollux will appear approximately 45 degrees above the horizon. Earlier in the evening, from 10:00 p.m. until midnight, Gemini will be about 30 degrees above the horizon in the southeast. You won't need binoculars or a telescope, the naked eye is usually best for seeing meteors which often streak more than 45 degrees across the sky. When observe ring outdoors it is always advised to wrap-up warm and relax in a reclining chair with a flask of hot chocolate. " I copied the above form a website, I saw the same thing a few years ago (1999) while out walking the dog, It was absolutely amazing, A meteor streaked across the sky before descending through a hole in the clouds then exploded into hundreds of fragments over sheffield. I watch out for it every year but I haven't seen it happen since.
  3. Try this link for just about every club, organisation in and around Sheffield. http://dis.shef.ac.uk/help_yourself/ You should find at least Abbeydale Archers & there is my old club at Dronfiled, if they are still going. I think there is another at Tinsley and Brecks in Rotheham. Check the site for details.

  5. We used to swim in it as kids & fish it as I got older, there used to be some monster carp in it. It became a bit of a dump in the 60's but I believe it's been cleaned up a bit now. My wife works for the Council - Parks, woodlands & countryside and she says there is a Ranger event there on the Feb 27th??? about local history & stuff. Regarding age, I'm prety sure it was built in the Victorian times to resemble a roman bath. The water used to come from a round well underneath the house above the Spa. It had bars on the entrance to the well so we couldnt get in and play (and probably drown ourselves) . The old house used to be a Youth Club in the 60,s. Run by Mr & Mrs Pecket and Mrs Flinders. Happy Times

  8. Anyone remember the "Bucc" in the 70's, sticky floors, plastic glasses, the huge snakeskin over the bar, George Webster the DJ, that feeling that you had gone deaf when you went outside or the strange sweet, herbal smell in the far corner where the big speakers were : The clothes - Afghan coats, stack heel boots ,smilie patches, Mr Freedom Shirts and jeans.
