  1. Hi Everybody, When I lived on Ridgehill Ave, Intake in the early 1960's there was a Booth Family who also lived on the road. They had a son and a daughter call Janet. I think she got married in the mid 60's but I haven't seen her for years and don't know where she is now. Wazzie Worrall
  2. Hi Everyone, What happens if the vigilantes turn out to be criminals? The Police need more resources and support, private unaccountable armies aren't the answer. Wazzie Worrall
  3. Hi Everybody, I grew up in Intake. I remember Saturday matinee's at x2 local cinemas; 1. The Manor Cinema, City Road, near the junction of Price of Wales Road and Ridgeway Road. Opened 12th December, 1927. Owned by Manor Picture House Ltd., with a total capacity of 1700. Closed 14th June 1969. I don't think I went there very often. 2. The Rex Cinema at the junction of Mansfield Road & Hollybank Road. Opened 24 July 1939. Designed by Hadfield & Cawkwell, seated 1350. Closed December 1982 and demolished October 1983 I remember as a kid standing in a queue waiting to be let in. The guy who kept us in order was known as 'Titanic'. I don't know what his real name was, he was a miserable sod with no sense of humour. Once when we were in the queue my old pal Pete Cousin asked him if 'He had his name down here?' I've no idea what he mean't but I remember the howls of laughter from the queue. The films were a mixture of cartoons and cowboy type serials e.g 'Texas John Slaughter'. The idea was to leave the audience on a knife edge so you'd come back next week! Wazzie Worrall
  4. Hi Everybody, Didn't the PWD have a department in the Prince of Wales Road/Pipworth School area during the 1960's? I've a memory of seeing lorries in that area when I used to visit my Grandmother in Darnell. Wazzie Worrall
  5. Hi Annie, Thanks for the posting. Chesterield looks the favourite! Cheers, Wazzie Worrall
  6. Hi Nigel, Thanks for the message. I'm not convinced that the train will come through Dore &Totley and then Sheffield. If it takes on Water at Barrow Hill it will take the 'back line' to Rotherham. Cheers, Wazzie Worrall.
  7. The White Rose - Wednesday 6 April. According to Railway Herald, a Steam Special is running from Bridgenorth to York on Wednesday 6.4.22. However, there is some confusion over the route. Railway Herald says that the train will be running through Dore & Totley to Sheffield and onto York. However, Realtime Trains says that the train will leave the mainline at Chesterfield and go up the 'back line' to York via Barrowhill. Is the train actually coming through Dore & Totley Station? In addition, 'The Hadrian Hoovers' which was due to run through Chesterfield and Sheffield on Saturday 2.4.22 has been postponed until Saturday 23.7.22. Wazzie Worrall
  8. Hi Lemmy and Everybody Esle. I've never understand why charter companies change the name of locomotives. The Jubilee which came through on Sunday was actually Galatea but it was changed to be called Sierra Loene. About x3yr ago the A4 Bittern was changed to Dominion of New Zealand??? Wazzie Worrall.
  9. Hi Daryl, Thanks for that. I'm going to Dore and Totley Station this afternoon and the footbridge near Tesco Metro in the evening. Cheers, Wazzie Worrall
  10. Hi Annie, Thanks for the information. I'll keep looking on Realtime Trains. Best Wishes, Wazzie Worrall
  11. The Powerful Pennine Panorama is due at Chesterfield Station on Saturday 12 February. At the moment I haven't times for the Train or whether it is running through Sheffield and Dore & Totley or going on the 'Back Line' to Chesterfield via Barrow Hill. Has anybody out there got any specific times or the route? Thank You. Best Wishes, Wazzie Worrall
  12. Hi Everybody, I was at Gleadless Primary School from 1956 to 1963. My late Brother John Worrall was at Gleadless County School until 1956, He then went to City Grammar School . He was in the same class as Peter Cousin who went to Hurlfield School for Boys after Gleadless. Other people I remember in the 50's were Margaret Swain, Dianne Dale, Graville Dale and Barbara Ackroyd. These people were all older than Me. Another friend who was in the year above Me was Susan Kershaw, Susan went onto Hurlfield School for Girls. There is a comprehensive posting for Gleadless Primary School on Sheffieldhistory.co.uk - Schools - Gleadless Primary School. Best wishes, Paul 'Wazzie' Worrall.
  13. Hi Everybody. This is a very interesting link. Although my favour band, and have been since about 1963 are the Rolling Stones, some of the other bands mentioned are also excellent! The Sensational Alex Harvey Band were brilliant, I saw them at the City Hall in about 1975? The lead guitarist - Val Clementson? had the 'white clown face'. They were also on the Old Grey Whistle Test a couple of times. My older daughter who is now 50yr loved the Glitter Band when she was a little kid and they were on Top of the Pops. Harvey Ellison the saxophonist with the Glitter Band lived on Bents Road and We used to see him in the Hammer and Pinchers - where is Harvey now? Best wishes, Wazzie Worrall PS - Not forgetting Canned Heat either - The Bear was Unique. A good friend was a roadie for them in the late 60's/early 70's and has lots of interesting stories. So many of these charactors are no longer with us, but their Music lives on! Wazzie Worrall (again)
  14. Hi. I Agree with 'bassett one'! Where would We be without the Rolling Stones or Bob Dylan? Mind You - there is a wide birth to pick from. You just have to listen to Sound of the Sixties/Seventies! Happy New Year Everybody! Wazzie Worrall
  15. Hi Everybody, Are there any local charities who are taking old Greetings Cards for recycling? All the best for 2022! Cheers, Wazzie Worrall.
  16. Hi Daryl , Thanks for the info about the Steam Special on Saturday. So Clun Castle is running through Chesterfield to Barrow Hill and not D&T Station or Dore Tunnel Loop? Cheers, Wazzie Worrall
  17. Hi Zarniwoop, Thanks for the information regarding the Special on Wednesday. I'll be going to D&T Station. The time I got at D&T is 11:39 which is similar. I've still not got a definite time for the Special on Saturday morning. However, the locomotive looks as if it's 7029 - Clun Castle. Cheers, Wazzie.
  18. Hi Annie and Everyone Else. According to my diary there are x2 Steam Specials due through D&T Station next week. 1. Wednesday 15.21 - The Christmas White Rose Express (Saphos Trains) 2. Saturday 18.21 - White Rose Express. Tyseley - York. At the moment I haven't got times for either of the Trains. Cheers, Wazzie Worrall

The second Steam Special, also called the York Yuletide Express is due to travel through Dore & Totley Station between Liverpool and York on Saturday 04/12/21. Does anybody know the actual times of these x2 trains? Best wishes, Wazzie Worrall.

  24. Hi Annie, Have You any idea about what time the Peak Express (Tin Bath) is due through Dore & Totley Station on Sunday? Thanks. Best wishes, Wazzie Worrall
  25. Hi, I've lived in Sheffield nearly 70yrs and I've never heard of anybody referred to as 'duck'. To my knowledge 'duck' is a term of affection in North East Derbyshire/Chesterfield. My partner is from Chesterfield and her family always referred to each other as 'duck'. In Sheffield we are much more likely to refer to each other, male/female as 'love'. Many years ago a friend of mine who had recently moved to Sheffield from London was shocked when a big bloke at a bus stop referred to him as 'love'. I told him he would need to get used to this. He has now lived here for over 35yrs and calls people 'love' himself! Wazzie Worrall
