  1. Totally agree! Parking down the street is great now even with 5 skips and builders vans. Heard they got rid of 14 old courtesy vehicles! As I live locally have noticed the improvement straight away. Best of luck to Lee and Industry Autos.
  2. Hi jimmyjamh, Sorry to hear about your MacPro problems. It could be a hardware issue - although I suspect that starting in safe mode and reporting no VRAM is more about the additional software normally loaded (kexts) for Compressor to work being disabled due to safe mode. However, first step is always to think software faults... What I would do is: * Try to get it to boot to a Lion restore disk in order to run Disk Utility to repair the volume * Try to re-install Lion (using this process: http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-make-your-own-os-x-lion-bootable-usb-flash-drive-tutorial/) with the option to keep user data, One thing you can try to get the machine to boot with the Tiger DVDs. If all seems well when booting this it's likely to be a software issue. Please PM if you'd like to pop it round for some further diagnoses.
  3. Hi, installing a ssd would make it feel faster in operation. Installing one would void the apple care warranty, so I would wait until this has run out before installing anything, just to be safe.
  4. I've had a few things done at this garage - and the work was always carried out well (fixing washer pump, coil pack etc). But I do have a neighbour who had some work done in 2012 and complained that some work had been carried out and chargerd without her permission. She didn't pay the extra amount after a discussion. The problem of overcharing/not contacting for permission to authorise work does seem to be continuing from the problems other SFs noted in 2011. So, on balance it seems there are mixed reports - I've not had any problems - but others have.
  5. Hi Kingsley, I do still repair Macs. Could be a few things: might be your hard disk - physically failing or corrupted installation - or another hardware problem. I'm more than happy to take a look at this - PM me. One thing to try in the meantime is to try both 'verify' and 'repair permissions' under disk utility - and you can also boot into hardware test to see if that can identify anything: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US As it now seems to be at a stage where it won't boot I would startup the system using the boot DVD (if you have one) and trying to use disk utility from there. There are other recovery options I can discuss with you via PM. James.
  6. Hi, Has anyone had the following problem around the Walkley area with Virgin Media?: Internet disconnects around 11-12 in the evening and won't reconnect. Is always fine again in the morning.
  7. Hi, Boot-up holding the Apple-key and the T-key. You will need a firewire cable to connect the 2 macs - this could be firewire400or firewire800 which are electrically compatible - but have different sized connections.
  8. Hi, First thing to try before a replacement hard disk is considered is to boot up in 'safe' mode. Hold down the shift key during startup and see if this will let you get the desktop. If needed I can provide a service to: * Try and boot the mac using another mac (I can bring this with) * Order and obtain the correct new hard disk * Copy files from your old hard disk * Download and install Lion Further details: A replacement hard drive would be around £60 for a similar size (250GB) but you can often find larger capacity ones (500GB) for around the same price. Specifically, you'll be looking for a Serial-ATA Hard Drive (this referes to the connection type). Many available from the internet. To get files off the hard drive you would need to either: 1) Boot the iMac up in 'target hard disk mode' and then use another mac to access the hard disk and copy the files off. or 2) Take the old hard drive out, mount in an external connection caddy which provides a firewire/USb connection and then this would appear on the desktop of your computer. Your best bet would be to purchase a newer version of the OS - which would also fulfill your issue with not having disks. If this a Core2 Duo iMac you will be able to run the latest (10.7 Lion) - which you can also download from the AppStore on another mac to install on yours. James.
  9. Hi, Would you be able to post the specs of your macbook - i.e. screen size and version - there should some further details on the underside - with a model number, etc. If it's a relatively new model the bad new is that because of the way they are designed if the keyboard does not dry out within 48 hours a new keyboard *and* upper case is required! The keyboard is literately built into it - and will break if it is removed http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/47336/remove+%26+replace+keyboard+from+topcase If this happens then an official repair by apple is the best bet - for which you would have to take it to an applestore - anything else would be a 'bodge' and may not last long. That said, if it's an older macbook you may be in luck. I can give you a price with some further information about the macbook.
  10. Hi, I can do this - but I would suggest this first: * Stop using the computer immediately * Place upsidedown in a warm (but not directly above a radiator/fire) place for at least 48 hours Let me know if it's still playing up after this. Often a proper dry-out will provide a fix for free - although obv. you won't have access it it during drying out.
  11. Chris - have you thought about creating a Google Places page with your business listings? Very easy to do let me know if you'd like some help and I'll pop in your shop and sort it for free.
  12. Hear Hear! Chris Beech runs rings around what you can buy from Tesco or ASDA. I specifically go there to buy all my meat - and they have many locally sourced organic meat for those that prefer that. I also went to Levitt's regularly but despite ASDA coming I think this was the straw that broke the camel's back. However, to be fair, he had been running it into the ground in terms of stock and appearance for the past couple of years... prob. due to cash flow issues. I have gone to the new ASDA a couple of times for "I forgot" or "just run out of" items - but I do shop at the larger supermarkets too.
