  1. That article says in London all over 60s also get free tube and train travel, worth over £3k per person per year. I'd gladly make that available for lots of people, it just seems wasteful handing it out carte blanche.
  2. This is a thread about the tory leadership, I'm not getting dragged any further into schoolground silliness.
  3. When discussing something, I tend to avoid trying to imply other people are inferior to myself. Other people rather like to do it.
  4. I've understood the statement "People in Switzerland are sensible and educated. The Brits, sadly, are not." as most people would. If the pair of you think that it's a fair statement, then that's your choice. I don't think disagreeing with it is 'going off on my high horse' . Others will make their own judgement on what you've said. You may have convinced them that you're right, but I doubt it.
  5. All speculation, on your part, to try to back up an overwhelming desire for it to be brexit based. Your own link states it's to do with the move to streaming instead of physical media: "In a statement released to What Hi-Fi?, Sony said: "As consumer habits in the home entertainment market continue to evolve, Sony DADC in England announced its proposal to close its distribution site in Enfield, England." I really cba, after that. If it makes you happy to believe it's another brexit story, fill yer boots. Good plan. Use 'cognitive dissonance' and throw in 'simplistic populism' to try to imply an intellectual advantage over whoever you disagree with. You had a go implying my disagreement was nationality based earlier, so you really are covering all the favourite go-to tools.
  6. That wasn't the discussion. It stemmed from the assertion they aren't intelligent enough to vote.
  7. 'In circumstances where this happened, then that happened, this might happen' is very different to your original sweeping assertion isn't it.
  8. That's right. Of all the problems that need solving, upping the 40% threshold should be way down the list.
  9. why? They have other distribution centres in the eu. Explain properly. You are supposed to be able to form rational, educated responses. I can take more than a one-liner. Doesn't make logical sense. In fact quite the opposite. They have other distribution centres in the EU mainland. They are being kept open, as magilla happily informed us about. If seamless trade is an issue, you'd have a Uk distribution centre to buffer the delays to uk customers. The eu centres handle eu trade. 'Perhaps' , it's actually to do with streaming, like the first line of the article said. Or do you disagree, and think CDs and DVDs are all the rage still, and it is brexit based, despite the article not mentioning it?
  10. So , can you explain why THIS closure, that you posted about is to do with brexit?
  11. Not sure if it's been mentioned in other posts, but we've enjoyed the Butcher and Catch in Broomhill a couple of times recently. Great meat and fresh fish options, and some veggie choices too. Great meals with local ingredients, nice friendly atmosphere too.
  12. They've closed a distribution centre, not a headquarters. So, you'll have to explain again why it's got anything to do with brexit, when your own link told us it was about streaming. Or you could do the unthinkable and admit it's just a regrettable closure for other reasons. You'll have to speak to the WTO about it then https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/wto-says-its-rules-would-not-force-eu-or-uk-to-erect-hard-irish-border-1.3710136
  13. Can you explain specifically why they'd do that then? Especially how brexit would close a British warehouse distributing CDs in Britain. Also, why the link you posted cited the reason being streaming. I'm interested in the detail of the reason.
  14. Lots of people are yes, regardless of what country they come from. The claim that some countries are more able to make sensible decisions about how their lives are governed is ridiculous in my view (I know it wasn't you who made that post btw) There are lots of posts and opinions on here that are skin crawling in the that respect, that they have utter contempt for swathes of the country based on an outcome that they disagree with. It shows a selfish, superior, attitude that is steps away from the way totalitarian regimes think. If these opinions are held by people who claim to be liberal, forward thinking, non-judgemental, inclusive thinkers, then they need to have a long hard look at themselves, or change their self-proclaimed description to something more appropriate. In my opinion. ahh, so are you you inferring some kind of xenophobia because I made slightly different replies to the pair of you, even though I referred to their post as nonesense? I don't even know your nationality, only that you refer to this country in the third person. You may be British ex-pat or a foreign national. I neither know nor care, and it makes no difference to my opinion of your posts. My replies to you and them stand as I wrote them.
  15. Yes. You can see my reply to that poster.
  16. Yes we have a choice to erect a border or not. The WTO does not have any rules on that. It is up to Ireland and the UK to decide how to police import / export trade and tariffs, and to ensure if tariffs, IF they exist, are collected.
  17. I'm not outraged, and not showing any faux outrage. I don't like your opinion of Uk citizens, however they voted. In fact the more posts you make like that, the more I'm convinced that leaving was the right decision.
  18. He'll have to build a border then. I'd suggest the UK won't do it, and don't need to. He knows that too. When the deadline loomed previously and all the talk of no-deal planning, there was never any plan for Ireland or the UK to implement a border at no-deal day. i.e it is a constructed problem.
  19. I know you love bad news stories, but the first line of the article reads "The SADC (Sony Digital Audio Disc Corporation) site in Enfield looks to be the latest victim of streaming growth" Bad news for the people who work there, sorry to have spoiled your enjoyment of the news.
  20. Well, I don't share your view of our country. Since you are speaking in the third person as an outsider looking in and down at us, from a much superior position, would you also think it appropriate the simpletons are allowed a vote in general for MPs, or should that also be left to those who know better?
  21. What nonsense. Won't even begin discussing that one.
  22. This definitely. Paddy and Freddy have enough personality and ad-lib ability for it not be like that.
  23. I'd have more, like they do in Switzerland.
  24. Exactly. And it's a piece of cake no-brainer. On the licence application there should be tick-box if over 75 and on pension credit, giving permission for DWP to confirm free licence.
