  1. Sorry, I don't agree at all. I'm not saying it can't hapoen, but in reality it is a conflucted situation.
  2. You think a union rep can give true impartial advice against his own union and a fellow union colleague??
  3. I think most people would be concerned that a union rep can't give impartial advice in a complaint against his own union.
  4. Ok, but he is campaigning, by default, to be prime minister. My comments still stand on that basis. If you just think it's about being tory lesder and nobody else should care, then that's up to you.
  5. You're not alone in having those skills though. You may believe yourself to be more analytical than others, but believing other people are more blindly led isn't wholly true. There's also many dangers at being dismissive of other peoples experience and hopes. Other people may have a completely different set of life skills gained in completely different ways. Both sets of views, and opinions are equally as important and valid, howevervfrustrating that might feel.
  6. Yeah, he or she justs selects the comissioners who propose all eu legislation, covering 500 million people.
  7. So, how would someone such as yourself become more informed, and be able to sort the wheat from the chaff, whereas another person wouldn't?
  8. Maybe from the perspective of getting through at any cost, but no other. Doing that is wrong. He is campaigning to be pm of our country. That carries great responsibilty, and he should treat it with respect. If he doesn't, the credibilty he has with some people will vapourise.
  9. And how has that type of education changed? Do you think that was something taught in the past, but not now?
  10. Germany's proposal is manfred weber. I don't know who our proposed, or supported candidate is. As I said, it is so far removed from our control, it is barely worth following, beyond knowing the huge impact that person will have on EU life.
  11. Sure, lots do degrees in sports behaviour science or whatever. But, it still needs some academic input. The level they study at GCSE is good too. I have an engineering degree, and I'd say good GCSE grades require a very good level of learning. They study complex ideas in English and other subjects go quite deep too. My kids can speak about lots of topics in good detail.
  12. Or whichever leader Labour have then. Anyway, it should be held against him regardless by everyone. The process of becoming PM is what it is, and has happened many times before. But, it should still be treated with respect, especially in the situation we are currently in.
  13. I mean in general, not just British. Macron (who is on 30% approval rating in his own country) is proposing Merkel. A more indirect democratic link is hard to imagine.
  14. I told you to not let your membership lapse! Egit. It seems ludicrous for him not to do it. Does he intend to go the whole process without doing anything???
  15. 50% are higher education qualified. People have always believed gossip to some extent ot another. My kids went to the same school as me, big run-of-the-mill Sheffield secondary, and the level they learn at knocks socks the off what we used to do.
  16. Sure, in that example, I'd agree. That would probably be the case regardless of a criminal conviction or not. A sex worker working out of a house where her kids were staying would no doubt have a strong possibility of them being taken into care regardless. In other cases where the crime didn't necessarily affect the kids, the circumstances would have to be taken into account. That would be the case for either a single mum or a single dad. As the other poster mentioned though, it shouldn't be able to be used as an indefinite get-out-of jail Free card.
  17. What is the best way to keep these people quiet and out of harms way?
  18. It doesn't, because the process is so far removed from our scope of control, it is a pointless discussion. Perhaps that says something??
  19. There was no strawman. I genuinely have no clue what point you are / were trying to make. I assume you have an opinion if any of those are true or false, but don't want to talk about it, which is fine. That would lead some to draw a conclusion in its own right.
  20. There are certainly plenty of dim people about and always have been. That hasn't changed unless they've started adding extra lead to the water. People see lots of the outside world, even if it is just on the internet or tv. Lots of people not so long back barely travelled out of their own village or city.
  21. yes, seems odd you though the hypothetical chances of Boris being so small, and comical. He won't be, of course. It doesn't seem to be the hot topic on the News or workplaces as you'd 'expect' for the main job in our democracy though???
  22. To an extent. Their initial reaction will be that. People will / can change that over a period of time, based on different experience or finding new information. But, generally beliefs are harder to change than they are to originally set.
  23. oops, I think the BBC backroom name for him slipped out there.......
  24. No it's not generally accepted. If I go to the football, sat on the kop, I'll eff and blind. If a little kid was sat next to me I'd bite my tongue, when possible. If in a rowdy pub, with mates having some banter, I would swear too. But most people have got the gumption not to do it in a restaurant. It's possible to modify your behaviour based on where you are and who you are with.
