  1. I’m looking for any suggestions for a milk delivery service that I can use for my elderly mum in Sheffield 2. Will be looking online but wanted to ask in this forum in case folk had suggestions or recommendations. Many thanks!
  2. They are the Council's costs. I am guessing there might be some additional costs if I need to seek professional advice? But even if the total cost is £1,200, that equates to 600 years of paying £2 per year, so where is the sense in that?
  3. 1 - Wireless is great for flexibility and mobility. It is by design a half duplex technology and cannot send and receive data packets at the same time. So it will always be slower than a wired connection for higher throughput. 2 - I have had very good experience with Ethernet over main adaptors.
  4. Hi - I am keen to know why you think you need to replace your router? Is there a particular bottleneck you are trying to overcome? Even if you can download at 50Mbps say, a PlusNet router gives you a wire speed of 100Mbps and so there is no bottleneck there. Even the wireless can be set up easily enabling you to have 2 separate SSID's, one for the slower, more congested and interference-prone 2.4 Ghz and a separate one for 5 GHz. I am currently a PlusNet customer. If you have a wired network with multiple devices and you can see evidence of exceeding 80 Mbps, I might be inclined to agree that upgrading a router with Gb Ethernet ports may give you a faster local network. I would be surprised, but it depends on your requirements.
  5. Got an update from the council, which really surprised me. They are saying it will cost me £1,150. No thanks, I would rather pay £2/year!! Dear Shafeeq The initial step required for your client is to serve a Notice to Acquire the Freehold (Form 1), as per The Leasehold Reform Act 1967. The notice contains information that is essential to the completion of the freehold valuation. The Leasehold Advisory Service is quite useful for such matters and can be accessed via https://www.lease-advice.org/ Should you qualify and wish to continue with the purchase, in addition to the cost of the acquisition they will be expected to pay the City Council’s charges on completion. These are as follows: Legal and Surveyor’s fee £1000.00 Cost of plans (if required) £150.00 I hope the above has been of some assistance to you. Please do not hesitate to contact me, should you have any further queries. Kind Regards, Regeneration and Property Services City Growth Department
  6. Have you had any joy with this? What version of Microsoft Word do you have? Do you require XPS format, or will PDF also suffice?
  7. Very key questions. Also, what type of Aerial or receiver do you have? Do you have a Satellite dish and Sky box for example?
  8. Sometimes you want a good quality product and it doesn't matter too much where you buy it from, and Curry's can be very convenient. I would not choose Curry's for customer service nor for pre-sales advice compared to the other two either. If you know what you want, they can often have the best price. The JL one with 5 years guarantee kindly posted by swarfendor437 above, reminds us of how good the additional guarantees are with JL. I did exactly that when I bought my last TV, from JL, with a 5 year guarantee included in the price.
  9. Further info: "Term : 499 years from 29 September 1871 Rent : £6.0s.10d NOTE: The lease comprises also 2 and 4 Xxxxxxx Rd" So it is a)very long term and b)incorporates neighbouring adjacent properties, hence £6/year being divided by 3. I am guessing here that I should forget the whole thing in the light of the facts? And look to set up a direct debit of £2/year to the council...
  10. Top drawer response, topflat - appreciated Will need to find the person you're referring to - I think I did see a post from him.
  11. Has the question been answered sufficiently well Janus? If your true objective is cost reduction, then from my experience ADSL would be best (unless you have a TV service provider say who may be able to offer broadband cheaper). For example: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband/#plusnetadsl Plusnet - pay £198 over 12mth contract, get £75 cashback Broadband and line rental: equiv £10.24/mth
  12. Wow. Wow. I cannot believe how this little topic has lead to so many messages, and clearly, ironically, the intent behind childish slurs is not a positive one. I only joined the forum yesterday. Clearly I will need to be very selective how I spend my time. Over and out on this topic, good people of Sheffield!
  13. Says who? This is totally subjective. I think we can surely all agree that the assistant's comments were well well-intended, can't we? The impact of his choice of words will vary upon our personal outlook. I would like to think the majority of people would not be offended or felt patronised. Each to their own, hey ho.
  14. Many thanks for the info - much appreciated Do you have any suggestions of who to turn to, or recommend anyone? Thanks!
