  1. Samsung C3350 http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/mobile-phones/bar/GT-C3350AAAXEU Water and shock proof, so you can show off by throwing it about or dropping it in your pint. Also takes photos underwater apparently. And only about £70 Sim free on Amazon. Also seen it in the EE shop on Fargate.
  2. Ok, think I may have done a dumb thing - I bought a Lumia from the Orange shop the other day & got it home only to discover a few things - 1 Unlike my last phone (Android) you can't drag & drop files - you have to use Microsoft's crappy Zune program to get anything at all on & off the phone. 2 Zune can find all my pics but only about 30 of my videos (out of approx 300 or more) & because it can't find any others I can't put them on the phone 3 You can't even transfer files by Bluetooth - BT is limited to connecting to headsets, etc! This basically means that I can't even transfer a file to a device a couple of feet away - another phone or tablet/computer - I'd have to email it - but if it was a video & in the wrong codec then the Lumia couldn't open & play it. In other words I have to wait till I get to my own computer & connect the phone before I can get anything on or off it! 4 The Orange shop has a policy of no returns unless faulty & even then they will only exchange for another of the same model. Its a nice phone - well made, looks good & feels solid & has some nice features - but is so limited that its driving me nuts - is there any way to get the other video files on there without converting them (if I could find the right codec - most of them are mp4's but it still can't read them for some reason!) all individually? And is there any way to get the Bluetooth working properly? Or if not, where can I get the best price for a 4 day old phone that I paid £150 for so I can get myself another Android?
  3. Thanks - I gave it a go, but after downloading gdebi & Opera & spending half an hour trying to get the thing to open I gave up. Back to Windows. I used to use FF years back but honestly couldn't face the hassle of learning a new OS & re-learning FF & getting it set up how I want.
  4. Cheers. I'll give it a go. That warning sounds a bit worrying- is it? Or is it the usual disclaimer they stick on all software?
  5. So, I downloaded WUBI to give Linux a go, & I can't get Opera to open. I downloaded the file but can't open it - just get this message saying there's an error & the file can't be opened. So, any suggestions? (excluding "Use Firefox" or summmat - I've got Opera set up on Windows & just want to be able to sync with it on Ubuntu). Also, an easy way to access my pics & docs from windows would be gratefully recieved
  6. Found this on the Help page: "We are currently investigating user reports of the following issues: Programmes buffer when previously they didn't Pausing a programme will result in audio being out of sync with video playback. Video freezes while the sound continues" http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/announcements/streaming_problems Probably down to the iplayer team once again having time on their hands & deciding to do yet another unnecessary 'update'. Seems like every other week they mess with the thing & it goes wrong. Then they spend the next week sorting it out & getting it working properly again only to 'update' it again the following week - at which point it all messes up again.
  7. Not compatible with Flash 10 so can't download it (tried, believe me) Really nice phone otherwise (4.3 inch screen, latest Android, etc). I did see somewhere that the older version of My Player is still available somewhere for D/L & that it still works to stream I Player, but I'm not sure where to find it or whether its a simple download or requires a lot of messing to get it to work.
  8. OK, I'm 99.999999% certain this will be a no, but... I've just got the Orange Monte Carlo android (2.3)& its brilliant, but it doesn't have flash capability so no Iplayer. It streams You Tube content in HD no probs. Then again, the iphone doesn't have flash but that can stream iplayer content, so I'm wondering if there's any way to stream (if not D/L) iplayer? apparently the My Player app used to be able to stream it without Flash but the beeb stopped it for legal reasons. Oh, & when I ask if there's any way to do it, I mean a REALLY simple way, not something I'd have to attend night classes in advanced computer braininess for 2 years to get to work.[
  9. As for Google docs - I'd offer a word of caution: http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110721/18124415200/can-google-get-past-big-faceless-white-monolith-stage.shtml "I had imported all of my other email accounts, hotmail, yahoo, etc., into that one gmail account. I had spent roughly four months slowly consolidating my entire online presence, email accounts, banking info, student records, etc., into that one Google account, having determined it to be reliable. That means in terms of information, approximately 7 years of correspondence, over 4,800 photographs and videos, my Google Voice messages, over 500 articles saved to my Google Reader account for scholarship purposes ....I have lost all of my bookmarks, having used Google bookmarks...... I have also lost over 200 contacts. Many of which I do not have backups of. I have also lost access to my Docs account with shared documents and backups of inventory files. I have also lost my Calendar access. With this I have lost not only my own personal calendar of doctor’s appointments, meetings, and various other dates, but I have also lost collaborative calendars, ...... I have also lost in my correspondence medical records and a variety of very important notes that were attached to my account. My website, a blogger account for which I purchased the domain through Google and designed myself, has also been disabled and lost." If you depend on Google PLEASE back up. It may be your stuff but Google can lock you out.
  10. Of course that link should be http://picasa.google.com/ ..
  11. If you're just wanting to be able to view it right way up Picassa http://picasa.google.com/allows you to rotate videos by just right clicking - it just doesn't change the actual file itself. I use Picassa to view/organise/edit my pix/videos anyway so the original orientation isn't really relevant to me. I've noticed that you can now rotate the videos you post on Facebook too.
  12. It would on 10.4 but not on 10.3 'cos the latest Flash won't work on Panther, so since the last upgrade on iplayer I can't watch it. Can't get the latest version of Safari either.....
  13. Machine Model: iBook G4 CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3) Number Of CPUs: 1 CPU Speed: 800 MHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB Memory: 384 MB Bus Speed: 133 MHz Boot ROM Version: 4.7.7f0 Serial Number: UV40308**** That's it. I did think about buying a copy of Tiger, but as I said this machine is about 7 yrs old & its not my main computer any longer, so I don't want to be shelling out any more cash on it. Just thought that Linux might solve the problem - just want something I can maybe run Chrome & i player on - you know, the basics - doesn't need all the bells & whistles
  14. Everything I've read says its difficult to get Ubuntu to work on the Power PC - what I'm looking for is something that is absolutely dead simple to install & use & that will let me use the latest programs. In other words, I'm not technically minded so I don't want something that will require lots of fiddling about - just install, & it runs - will Ubuntu just do that?
  15. Ok, so I've got one, about 7 years old, running 10.3 panther - but that's about the only thing it still runs - latest browsers (firefox 3, Chrome, etc), i player, etc, won''t play. So, I need a different OS - can't get Mac 10.4 any longer, but is there some version of Linux that I can install that will let me use up to date programs like the ones I've mentioned?
