  1. The reason I’m asking is I lived on Orpen Drive over 40 years ago and the house was ‘haunted’. I’ve been curious ever since about what was on the site before they built houses. I know some people are going to reply by saying there’s no such thing as ghosts but I witnessed some very strange happenings there. I also think I remember it being called that. Thanks for all the information regarding the land that the houses were built on. I just wish I could find out more about the house where I used to live but I’ve no idea where to start.
  2. Thanks for that. Do you by any chance know what was on the land where the houses are on Orpen Drive? 3. Hi, I’m looking for any information about the court house which was on the Bagshawe Arms site. There was a rumour in the 80’s that there had been hangings on that land but I can’t find any record of these. Does anyone know any history of the site?
  4. Ah, I’m guessing it’s the same Garry. His dad lived on Orpen Drive. Garry moved to Arbourthorne then ended up exchanging with us so he was back on Orpen Drive.
  5. Just found these posts as I was thinking about where I grew up on Orpen Drive and a couple of houses away from Garry Farrer. Apparently the house we lived in was haunted. My mum was not a believer in stuff like that until she saw something in that house.
  6. I agree, you don’t want kids playing in the playground when it’s full of rats. Makes me wonder if they’ll take over the cafe with it not being in use. My husband used to deliver the bread etc for the cafe about 15 years ago and said when he got there in the early hours of the morning he’d see plenty of rats and he had to leave the bread in crates round the back of the cafe.
  7. For over ten years I’ve seen plenty of rats in Graves Park. I only go occasionally now but it’s certainly off putting with the rats. I know they are everywhere but in the park they’re just not bothered by people anymore and just run out in front of you.
  8. Mainly down by the ponds, I saw quite a few. I got talking to someone who said the animal farm is full of them now too.
  9. I was in Graves Park yesterday and I thought the rat problem was as bad as ever and they’re not little things either.
  10. Are there any balloons you can buy that don’t harm the environment or animals in any way?
  11. Thank you to everybody that came to our event today at Herdings Community & Heritage Centre. It was nice to see so many people.

  13. Just an update on our event- our refreshments will be served free of charge on a first come first served basis. There will be a small charge for the raffle, tombola etc.
  14. Just a reminder that next Saturday we are holding our open day and Jubilee celebrations. Please come and support us and bring the community together.
  15. I moved schools as we moved to Arbourthorne and Ashleigh was easier for me to get to. I think Newfield Green school that was mentioned is probably Newfield Secondary School in Meersbrook.
  16. I’m not sure why it closed but would be interested to know,
  17. I went to Gleadless Valley but moved to Ashleigh when I was about 13. Not sure where everybody would have gone when GV closed though.
  18. Yes I was the same, only hung around with kids in my year group. The West’s were about 2 years apart in age. I used to like the Cutlers when it was a pub but as I’m not keen on Indian food I’ve not been in there for years.
  19. The Cutlers, another pub gone! I’m not sure where they went to school tbh.
  20. I think if people want to have a party then leave them to it. If you don’t want to take part then you don’t have to. Each to their own.
  21. Both early 60’s. Their mum still lives on the close and she worked in the co-op at Herding’s.
  22. Did you know the West brothers, Michael and Mark? They lived on Morland Close.
  23. It’s great that people have memories of this place. Hope some of you will visit us even if it’s just for a look around.
  24. The current structure dates back to 1675 but the records for the farm go back to the 13th century. It’s back in the hands of Sheffield City Council and part of the building is being used by Sheffield Inclusion Centre. There’s a youth club being run by the council I think and Heeley City Farm use the building for some of their groups. It’s great that it’s being used.
  25. Yes it’s the building where the youth club used to be, in fact they still have a youth club! Years ago it was a farm house so the building has quite a bit of history. Come along and have a look around. There’s still a youth club there.
