Beighton is in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Eckington is in NE Derbyshire. Don't both local council's have a say in this? -
I think in late 50s early 1960s. there was a small snooker hall in that W&G building,

Re The Pc Brigade-Can We Still Use The Term  'Chinese Whispers'?

At this rate, perhaps some in the Indian sub-continent will object to Hull City FC's nickname. -

Yes Jim, I think the term 'Oriental' is just to be used as a geographical reference (say's whom?). Where does that leave our red shirted footballing friends from Leyton, London? And they- now Native Americans- can't refer to white men as palefaces anymore. And if they do, who's gonna dare to shut them up? -

Haymarket/Castlegate - Will It Improve?

When I first went in Gun, early 1966, on Friday and Saturday nights there was not a badly dressed customer in there , even had a Tuxedoed white gloved waiter! (well, best room the one on the right), men in suits and ties and no Demin in sight. It was a 'Free house' then and one choice they had was Newcastle Brown on draught. All of that not bad for a Sheffield 3 pub. -

In it's heyday the Gun was one of the best pubs (drinks, customers and furnishings). The best times for me was when Ken Cooney was owner/landlord. I think moved to Dore around 1987 but I had moved away from Sheffield by then. -

What about when Churchill was Home Secretary and ordered soldiers to open fire in striking Welsh miners? Not so 'fine' then! -

Agreed but Nye Bevan was Welsh, maybe we can invite him into the club ? Along with Scottish doctor Sir Alexander Fleming, the penicillin guy. -
