Perhaps by the point but Sheffield is/was the only UK city that never had a remand prison. Holding Cells don't count.

Did Neil Warnock go there, as he was a Frecheville kid then?

Like Leicester, (who's county it is in), or Bury, Stockport, Oldham and Heckmondwike?

1 hour ago, DUFFEMS said:Been on many a charabanc working mens club trip and not had a break down experience. always looked forward to them because being given actual cash in a brown envelope felt brilliant!
However, I did have the unfortunate experience of being on a boken down charabanc in the middle of a snow storm in about 1954/55.
My parents were given a newly built council house on the Hackenthorpe estate in 1953, it was wonderful, 3 bedrooms, lounge, dining room, kitchen, seperate bathroom and toilet and a large garden. The only problem was access to anywhere, the only bus was up the estate on Occupation Lane, we were right down in the bottom on Rainbow Avenue. There was no school for infants as the village school in Hackenthorpe was over full so, as a 5 years old I was taken up to Occupation Lane every morning (we moved there in Autumn) and bundled onto a charabanc along with all these other unknown kids, no good roaring, your mum wasn't on the bus!
Firstly I went to a school room down the side of the church in Ridgeway, we sat round a pot bellied stove and wrote with chalk on slates, as there was nowhere to play at lunchtime we were taken for walks through fields of snow, sludge, rain etc.
I later progressed up the road to a school room which I think was the Methodist Church in Ridegway, again no play area so walking through fields lanes etc. at lunchtime for recreation.
I actually got to the main school in Ridgeway the following year just as snow really set in, that's when our charabanc veered off High Lane into the field to the left. No phones, helpers etc. and no-one knew we were there but, eventually some men in uniform arrived and we were dug out and finally landed with our mums who knew nothing about our experience, they were anxiously waiting on Occupation Lane, it was late evening.
After 3 years of unreliable charabancs, poor bus services and bad weather mum decided she'd had enough and we went back to civilisation in Meersbrook.
Great prose DUFFEMS, thank you.

What or where was Sunwin House? (from Sheffield ex-pat).

Lots of posts on SF relating to above but did anyone have the unfortunate experience of having their coach break down on the way there, depriving the kids of a day at the seaside or maybe half a day if bus repaired or replaced in the middle-of say--remote Lincolnshire?

Why do Castlegate shops keep getting mentioned- there was never any shops on there ( only bus stops) except a betting shop next to the old Bull & Mouth pub. Perhaps what's meant is the triangle of Castlegate. Waingate and Exchange Street?

Not many (if any) nightclubs/discos around in 1962.

One day a pupil was imitating his stance when Silas came in. His comment was "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery "
I think former football manager and Shiregreen born lad Jim Smith was a Firth Park pupil around mid- 1950s, mentioned the magazine in his biography.

Off the immediate subject but wasn't there a Don Inn in the Newhall Road area?

I believe the Mambo had downstairs premises, if so, from which side was access, Cambridge Arcade or Union Street?

Sheffield United Tours had a booking office on the arcade, near bottom left going down from Pinstone Street.

Glass Frog
Abbeydale Tap
Barrowboy
Two Thirds

Wasn't Barrowboy near the bottom of Dixon Lane or am I

The game hung on a moment where a sub with his 1st touch raced away from defenders, cut inside another two and finished astutely into Dawsons bottom corner, Wednesday brought on Wilkes who just kept giving the ball away and looked like he was new to the game of football and looked quite easily the worst player on the park, hopefully thats the last we see of him in a Wednesday shirt and its indicitive of chasiris recruitment failures.
Rotherhams 23 points in 2016/17 in the championship
Thank you Staninoodle. 23 points? That looks like being a Herculean achievement for a team not a million miles away from Miller town.

I know it's early but who has the record(s) for the least points in the Championship or the old second division, which was only two points for a win then?

They will be highly motivated.
For that reason I have to say Watford 3 - 0 Owls
And then there's Plymouth, who are just above Watford, where the Owl's go to in a mid-week long away trip but then it's the Miller's at home.

Some people want convenience but for some people, a leisurely stroll round the supermarket can be enjoyable. There is a social element to it as well, I often bump in to people I know there.
You're right Irene , perhaps a stroll around the old Castle Market could have induced the same experience ?
