  1. Good article from 'Yorkshire Live' but they say that Alex went to Leeds when the Blades were relegated from Division Two when I know he played in the Boxing day derby in December 79 in Division Three. I don't think Pedro Verde came at the same time as Alex. perhaps a few months later and he only lasted a few games before the Blades released him. Perhaps he was on a game to game basis rather than a contract.
  2. Similar figures for Huddersfield against the Owls...till the other day.
  3. The Hodson pub was at the corner of Draper Street and Carlisle Road.
  4. The No: 20 that you can't remember was probably the No: 20 that was introduced in 1968 and ran to Southey Green to complement the No:97 but ran through part of Pitsmoor ie: Ellesmere Road-Scott Road. I can't recall where the other end of the route was.
  5. To get to Penistone Road from Moonshine Lane (2 or3) the buses would go down- Herries Road towards Wednesday's ground, was there a regular stop on that stretch?
  6. And there was a jeweller's shop between Mortimer's and the Lion, perhaps Leslie Cass ?
  7. Yes the Lion hotel was on the Nursery Street corner so counted as a Wicker area pub, also on Nursery Street were the Hare and Hounds and Manchester Hotel (now New Harlequin) and just off the Wicker were The (old) Harlequin (Stanley Street/Johnson Street) and there was of course the Stanley Street WMC.
  8. Can't see the Google Ear photo but was Spiers on the same side of High Street as the Old Blue Bell pub or across on the old Walshes side ?
  9. Early 70s not too bad, it was just after that the pantomimes started.
  10. Bunny's were located on the corner of Exchange Street and Waingate outside one of the entrances to the Castle Market. The Snig Hill store mentioned was probably Winstone's who also had a shop on S pital Hill, Pitsmoor.
  11. I think Ray's son Stephen was a coach at Hillsborough during Bruce's brief tenure. RIP Ray.
  12. Yes, I've heard the 'Why Not' pub story before, the pub was actually on the corner of Earsham Street and Clun Street and I think it was demolished around the 1920s.
  13. When the Hyde Park flats were being occupied -1963-66 era- and a sudden influx of young kids, where did most of them go to school, was there a school within the complex ?
  14. Yes, there were four pubs on Carilsle Road, two on Upwell Street, two on Upwell Lane, one on Adsetts Street and one on Botham Street plus Grimesthorpe WMC.
  15. The pub on Upwell Lane near the Bowling Green pub was the Beehive Inn, I think it was a John Smith's house.
  16. He also had a minor stroke in 2010....did that bloke suffer.
  17. Perhaps you are thinking of David Coleman as having passed a few years ago ?
  18. Yes Jim, I believe he was in Germany when in the army and the Owls used to pay to fly him back and forth on a weekend pass for some games. RIP John.
  19. I believe the Lloyd's you refer to is at 11 SUNDERLAND Street (off Cemetery Road), Sharrow,
  20. That was Ashley Fletcher, ex-Owl Steve Fletcher plays for Stoke City.
  21. During the Sheffield Transport or SYPTE era, did buses ever run on Woodseats Road as their regular route ?
