  1. perhaps they are angry at not being able to read or perhaps, and far more likely, they don't understand what a library is for just exceedingly dim really but alas we don't put people away for being one of those
  2. dangerous... a matter of personal opinion.. dangerous for who? terrorists? good its about time there was some deterent ofr them and before its mentioned no its not unconstitutional... we don't have one... we do have a lot of state control but thats another topic love to see the look on some of those low life scum that sometimes assault the homeless for kicks when they threaten e member of the SAS i'm thinking they will get more than kicks out of that misadventure btw in case people were not aware there are also female members of the special forces that may or may not be similarly employed so not wise being unpleasent to homless women either.
  3. i doubt more that a few people have noticed or that any of thse care ... its just a bit of an eyesore, doubtless has running and maintenance costs whilst the space it takes up would have been better employed a drop-off / pick-up area.
  4. i noticed another UPS related thread went a bit wrong no longer alloows input which was unfortunately before it became useful. UPS sheffield is based on PRESIDENT WAY PRESIDENT PARK INDUSTRIAL ESTATE SHEFFIELD, SHEFFIELD S4 7LR Phone: 0845 787 787 7 a better non premium number they say is 0345 787 787 7 i found on ringing them that it was very difficult to explain my simple query ...where is the collection point... took me about 10 minutes before the presumably a man with what sounded like an asian/indian sounding accent who had excellent language skills but was seemingly unable to discern the meaning of what I said. put another way he heard what i said he knew what i said he could repeat what i said but was clearly not very experienced in understanding the meaning of what was said in english. the person that took the call said his name was john... i found that somewhat unlikley i hope that was well enough explained for the overly sensitive overly PC nut jobs that sometimes input on other people's posts with their usual feigned indignation. if you want to collect a parcel yourself they were' unable' to deliver you will have to ring (unfortunately) them as they have different points to do that from around the city and they are postcode based but you might be able to arrange something through their website if you prefer to do things online. they say you WILL NEED photo ID presumably a driving licence or passport AND a utility bill .... wherever you collect it from i hope this is useful
  5. In all honesty if you think about it most people are well worth avoiding. I can be as socially outgoing as anyone else but often if it does not suit me so I'm not. At times I just don't bother with people. Why some people are under the impression they may talk to anyone else without first asking permission is beyond me. If ignoring them has not worked with people that approach me or attempt to open unsolicited conversation with me for their own reasons to then I quietly and politely tell them to **** off and I am fortunate that they generally do as they do not generally want to embarass themselves further
  6. well said Anna in their case it might help to think of whatever substance they choose to use or abuse ( which is after all only a matter of opinion) as anaesthetic against some of the realities of life.
  7. im just interested... i'd like to get this straight .... when those that have little or nothing choose to spend a little of what they do have to (in their opinion) to enhance their existence a little if only by burying reality for a while you think you have the right to judge them for making one of the few decisions they are still empowered to make. im not saying they are right to buy or drugs ..or wrong.. in fact many people would have many drugs freely available to us all... what I am questioning is how you think you are in postition to either pass judgement on others or even if you have sufficent experience to be able to make informed decisions on how others conduct their lives to simply get through today.
  8. they could all take it in turn to elect their own chairman / woman ... the role of mayor is not needed..
  9. that is the ultimate goal. if you don't support local shops and/or independents they will go if you doubt that have a good look at how many DIFFERENT retailers there are in the ever shrinking sheffield centre and how many are chains. ie from bottom of the moor through fargate to wilco on haymarket and try not to forget division st if you are one of those that can't trust your self with cash ...or find it "more convenient to use a card" .... the latter said in a suitably pitifull whining voice .... the then you will also, rather selfishly i might add, be contributing the eventual disappearance of the option to use cash for everyone..... before you inconsiderately dismiss your presently still available option to use cash please think very carefully... always using your card means someone somewhere WILL know everything you ever spend money on and all that implies if you voluntairily are giving up on any the few choices that remain to us all... then dont cry when there are none left.
  10. buy a thick strong pillow case ... fill it with flock and sew it up. you may wish to experiment with how much flock you put in to find whats best suits you flock is commercially available but varies considerably in both quality and price i'm told
  11. just a thought perhaps an enquiry directed towarss the land registry migh prove useful.... no doubt expensive ... but possibly useful i once asked a solicitor that at the time I had recently had dealings with to check out a property for me ..which he did ...via the land registry.
  12. but logically there far more 'unsavoury' people in town so you take your chances..... and perhaps also a stout walking stick.... as some of the pavements have loose or projecting flag stones... better safe than sorry
  13. unfortunately it will no doubt be back in the new year... on or around 1/2 term or easter i imagine... or both
  14. rather an odd statement to make. if sheffield or when sheffield does eventually become subverted to sharia law do you think for a moment yuo would be allowed to complaimn about on sheffield forums. such naivety ought to be rewarded. come to think of it perhaps some of us will be .... as I very much doubt you or any women would even be allowed to be members of sheffield forums not necessarily a good thing but we'd be at least spared your false platitudes . . . . . . well said but i think it would be even better were the position completely retired. the regailia auctioned off to provide hot foot and shelter for the homeless we don't officially have according to the council. thousands of pounds a year in expenses .... cars and drivers ... entertaining etc etc and all put to a better use. protecting the trees perhaps or making amey repair all the roads they have done so far.
  15. I am given to wonder at just who it is that wishes to introduce this idea of congestion charges in Sheffield to add to the decline of the city centre.... and what is the reasoning behind their long term objective whatever that might be. There is so little in the centre these days that can not be obtained from outlets not based there. The albeit very small and much reduced market (compared to the sheaf and castle markets in their hay day) is about it. You can get a coffee anywhere (or for the novelty value of it ...at home) you can shove a pie in the oven rather than get it from greggs. Cut price christmas shops.. oops must not mention christmas where the council can hear you.. though of course there is waht what might be the city's most concentrated area of charity shops and hairdressers. Sheffield city centre compared to cities with similar sized poplations is probably the smallest and most run down of the lot. Some towns have larger shopping areas. and really how much affordable entertainment is there in sheffield centre that people WANT to avail themselves of. over proiced food outlets, cinemas and coffe shops. wow.... big deal.
  16. given the gravity and meaning of 11/11 if you think that the level and extent to which the council is commemorating it is suffice then i am very happy for you. i fully accept that some individuals have not had the necessary education to fully grasp the event and that is understandable sometimes.. i expect better from a council to which i help employ and yet i am compelled to give my financial support
  17. i was not asking about whether or not to obey the police. i wasd asking about the lackies paid or otherwise of what is essentially a business
  18. no comment mel ... just some childish emoji .... well thanks be for that ---------- Post added 12-11-2018 at 14:53 ---------- its not Tommy Robinson that worries me its the lengths some people are and will go to in fear of what he says. they dismiss what he says but do all they can between them to deny his right to say it.. i imagine its a bit like living in fascist germany or communist russia or red china. all that would silence him to protect their views are the enemies of everyone so far and to be honest i have not given all of this much attention but so far i have not seen any references in which people have been able to refute anything he has said as being untruthful ignoring his constant name changes of course which he says have been necessary and i have seen shown no evidence which would contradict that. i suppose the ignorant and mindless will continue to harass him till he stops or dies, and then the real thugs wil have won it adds up to very little in the scheme of things but for getting itself involved in the persecution of an individual and politics in general i will not be using paypal until they change their attitude
  19. youir comment as usual is accepted for what it is an indication you appear to have nothing intelligent useful or worthwhile to say but why break the habit of a lifetime.. at least you jkept it down to some made up word ..or words.. who knows .. who cares really?
  20. trump was the only reasonable of offer alternative to clinton... thats why the usa got trump as for god .. if you are having a debate please keep your imaginary friends out of it they serve no purpose. you might as well have quotes from sooty or the political opinions of postman pat to anyone..... please note that if your link is to a site that wants you to accept cookies before you can access them a lot of people have the sense not to use such sites, so for them your link is meaningless
  21. thats fairly easy..... imo just about any road within the sheffield boundry including many if not all of which that have been done already by Amey
  22. regardless of colour race religion or place of birth some people jsut happen to start off with greater wealth and in with what is percieved as higher social status. its natural no matter how much things get supposedly equalized in the judgement of some a few will always rise above others... get used to it, its a fact, its life ... get on with yours and quit your whingeing about something that you will probably only consider to be fixed when it you at the supposed 'top'. want something to campaign about try bringing an end to world poverty, third world hunger, companies slowly taking financial ownership of the world's water supplies, or that insidious evil they call multiculturalism which seeks to dilute all cultures until there are none left or should i say just one meaningless cluster of fk approved of by .... well who? ... the loony left?
  23. yhey do seem to be deliberately ignorant of the fact that many of the freedoms they take for granted they would not have if people had not given their lives to presererve some of those rights. also the services and the occassion are not to glorify war or politicians that cause them but to commemorate those mostly ordinary (a poor choice of word I accept) people that were convinced by politicians (and legislation) to put their lives at risk for what was conceived to be the common good. i can not find a way to justify that as employees of the people of sheffield the council and the councillors can choose to ignore such a significant event and not make some provision by which the people of the city as a whole can choose to attend (or not) and collectively pay ther respects to all took part willingly or otherwise in some of the major events of the 20th century
  24. before people start with over sensisitive knee jerk reactions here are the questions do please try to understand the questions and please only reply if your answer is legally correct. i only stipulate this because there are some that are clueless that would and probably still will post useless comments. are football clubs legally allowed to close nearby roads to traffic? and if so by what right? and who empowers them the right to do so? or other events aside from football but the two secondary football teams wednesday and united seem to be the main protagonists.... during game days both put people ..not police officers... on some roads and deliberately block trafic causing diverted traffic to cause further interuptions to traffic flow and consequently very often traffic jams please no speculation or fanciful comments ....... facts only please preferably with links to evidence also may any road user regardless of number of wheels or means of propulsion without fear of penalty or prosecution choose to ignore those people apparently being employed to obstruct the road? again i say football clubs because the two i mentioned seem to do this the most often of course it applies to any other events you might know of that actually obstruct traffic
