  1. if meadowhead was not busy enough in the first place ... they openened the meadowhead retail park.. they call it smoething else ,, but it is called by most ..meadowhead retail park which also unfortunately tells people where it is.....coffee outdoor gear more coffee household stuff people want but dont need and an aldi.. a vital contribution to sheffield's retail going public ... now as well as hillsborough and bramall lane they want to create another soccer related congestion spot at an already increasingly busy recently remodelled round-about it will be council owned so if they want planning permission they already have it. if they are already letting on they are thinking about it they will probably do it... despite what people might say... alot of people thay wanted to conserve tha mature trees in sheffield (and at meadowhead) learned to their cost that opposing htre council is very expensive because they don't care how much of your money they spend to get what they want to do in your name ...despite you not wanting it.
  2. its just a way of prividing more income from parking without increasing the amount of available parking they should make every new build in sheffield center include sufficient provision of parking spaces for all of its, residents, staff and customers what are are wondeful council going to spend this extra income on i wonder... i bet its not public toilets, roofing for and seating on pedestrian precincts or adequate bus shelters. perhaps they will spend it on reducing further the movement of traffic in and near the city center so that even more potential shoppers will use local retail parks. more so called 'ambassadors' to potentially torment and sometimes even bully the homeless
  3. one way they could improve the accuracy of bus times on some routes would be to simply take them off the timetable. there are so frequently buses late or missing on some routes its is clearly evident that whoever writes/sets the timetables has no experience of being either a bus driver or passenger.. in my experience in sheffield almost all buses that run through parson cross area and/or the city center especially at busy times are it appears subject to abduction. i'm sure that others could add to the list of affected routes
  4. Make you wonder what idiots would pay more than a few quid for a radio/mp3... you can get perfectly reasonable sound and there are not worth nicking so hopefully you get to keep your window when you are stupid enough to leave it in the car. to be fair although you might say it should not be this way... it is. the ignorant, stupid and or naively unaware vehicle owners are responsible for most vehicle break ins. they leave stuff in the vehicles to be stolen whether on display or not. if no-one ever left anything worth stealing in vehicles then the only reason the pondlife would break into your vehicle would be in an attempt to steal it or to borrow it and thrash/wreck it for a bit of mindless entertainment. it would be better if they actually prohibited operating sound emitting equipment in/on moving vehicles. research indicates such sound distracts drivers and negates hearing as a sense for identifying potential threats... often the sounds can be heard even felt outside the vehicles even when the windows are shut...clearly that is just plain stupid and damages hearing. research has also shown that certain music types encourage some people to drive dangerously.
  5. The most significant question on this thread... why indeed. could it be being sponsored by the chain owners to contribute further to the systematic squeezing out of independents? just asking. do all the small retail parks exist for the same reason? one could be forgiven for thinking that's the case even IF its not.
  6. the wicker once had loads of pubs and embarking a pub crawl only drinkling pints starting at the hole in the wall that finished in the bull and mouth was minor achievement but now its as good as dead... of course it still has sisman's electrical I'm told its the only place left like it in sheffield since bardwells went... the only real alternatives beingthe big DiY places there is a late night chemist... weel known but not very late and not everynight the motability place and the carpet roll end center parking for all of those leaves much to be desired other than those nothing else really except some what might be loosely called food outlets and some that call themselves restaurants.. i do not know what criteria a place has to meet to be a classed as a restaurant. if being able to eat whilst sat on a chair and has tablecloths is enough then there are restaurants... then again some people would call mcdonalds a restaurant... probably people that have never eaten in a real restaurant but who would choose to eat on the wicker? almost no parking and as there is no parking on wicker itself and i for one would not want to leave a vehicle i valued on one of the side streets even during daylight hours. whenever people talk about food and hygeine issues in Sheffield guess where always gets a mention. for most people there is nothing much else there worthy of mention that is exclusive to the wicker. woodseats and hillsborough used to be thriving centers... you could shop at hillsborough at one time and never NEED to go into sheffield, hillsborough continues to survive i'm not sure how long either it or woodseats has left. ecclesall road still does have some places you can eat in that are not regularly featured on food hygeine documentaries. though if some do not revise their prices then I don't know how long they will endure. but at least ER does have more than inflated price food to offer though i wonder for how much longer. there are though some shops that are worth visiting but a number of those have disappeared in the last decade... leaving space for the short term I-wouldn't-bother-with-them-take-aways none much more appealing than either the wicker or london road. though the chippy is ok i'm told.
  7. eating on the wicker . i think i'd rather put needles in my eyes. but look around sheffield generally there are businesses ceasing trading all the time. i said it before they had even finished talking about the planning of it... they should never have allowed meadowhall or crystal peaks almost all those businesses would have been sited in the middle of town, even without the duplication there would still have been quite a few more than there are now. i remain convinced that despite appearances, new buildings etc the city center is taking its time over it but dying slowly and that i'm sure is for someone a desired outcome.
  8. I have not read all the posts so I may have missed it being mentioned At one time years agao there was a sign up to warn people that cattle crossed the parkway. A sort of cattle crossing if you like though I never actually saw it being used. I always wondered if the speed limit should have been raised when the crossing by cattle stopped but nobody could be bothered to change it.
  9. Which is pathetic but maybe understandable when people are trying to sell to the scrap man....but I'm buying. Thanks for this lead. they had none in stock but were willing to help.
  10. Thanks for the replies to date. suppliers of ingots have minimum order sizes so it seems they are out which leaves scrap yards Scrap yards seem to have gone completely anal ... and it seems don't want to sell small amount, won't sell to the public. won't accept legal tender, ........................ i'm sure it's illegal not to ...hence all the other conditions want you to open an account, whilst all points are annoying its the first two i can't seem to get around just a few kilos please?
  11. I was wondering if anyone knew where in sheffield rotherham area I can but some aluminium for a casting project please scrap or ingots both would be good but ingots specifically for casting would be best
  12. They should make them clean the memorial and the surounding area so it all matches. When I say clean I mean no paint remaining at all and checked with a microscope. No brushes or cloths to be supplied and all cleaning fluids to be bought by the scrotes Its quite evident that these vandals were nit brought up properly so their parents should be named and shamed in local media too.
  13. Me too but I threw away the net curtains the day i moved in. They don't get dirty. No kids in the house and no pets
  14. we all get labelled and they are being labelled boat people.. live with it they do have a very good reasons for comming here greed, our welfare state and free medical treatment, not to mention very lax punishments for crime compared to their own countries. and i dont even need to demonstrate any of that to any person capable of rudimentary understanding
  15. well said and any taxaton that is labelled a 'greenhouse tax on... ' is also <removed> how is the revenue raised from said tax going to help prevent inevitable natural climate change? some migh deter the less well off from doing certain things.. get used to that .. in time it will be the more well off that dictate what the less well off can and may do.... just wait and see
  16. beefface.... and this time they have made the distinction ... what remains now is to test the accuracy
  17. if people would just apply a little logic to this issue the truth of the matter is the successful top level clubs are based in towns or cities that have no competition within that area. london has 6 teams in the premier league and an official population of over 8 million sheffield has two such teams and an official population of under 600, 000 sheffield has also the distinction of being the place in which the first football club in the world was formed ( no i have no idea who they played, with themselves mostly i imagine) the sane and sensible thing to do that would also hopefully negate all the petty objesctions from aniquted die hard fans would be to upgrade sheffield fc build a new stadium just outside the city sell off all the assets of the other two clubs keeping sufficient players and juniors coaches etc to form a viable team and have a club the whole of the football interested sheffield citizens could get behind. apart from blind and knee-jerk reactions from some backward looking individuals i can see no sane opposition to this. the world's oldest football club playing at the top of the national game based here in sheffield average home game attendances of both the big clubs is around 25K ...50K ish in total assuming the same levels of support which is would just put the proposed upgraded sheffield fc in amongst the clubs with the top 10 average attendances. i know some fans would quit in protest .. bye... but combined revenue generated would enable the club to purchase some proper players which in turn would generate hopefully increased success and then additional new support and increased income. increased interest from sponsors ans maybe even attract the interest some oligarth or oil rich potential owners. no one dare do it or even put the suggestion forward in a combined meeting of the three clubs. which is why sheffield will continue to be home to 2 slowly declining second rate clubs which in truth i'd prefer as the disruption to the rest of the cities residents on match days will eventually disappear and not a day too soon it needs the fans that care about success to initiate this.
  18. I have tried looking at several sources for an accurate weather forecast for sheffield it seems that most of those that try to predict the weather for sheffield are 1 unaware that between sheffield and manchester there is a wee hill or ridge if like that at times has a significat effect on the weather and the difference between the weathere in the proximity of those two major cities. some of you will perhaps know that said hil or ridge is also known as the pennines some 268 miles in length and at one point 2900 feet in height. some call the pennines a mountain some a range, some the backbone of england. but it appears many weather forecasters either know not of its existence or choose to ignore any influence on the wather that the pennines might have. having learned that we can not really trust the british <removed> corporation for accurate news the same can be said at times but far too often about their weather forecasts so who do we go to or where do we look for an accurate weather forcast that covers sheffield for the next 7 days? i was very fortunate that i once had a neighbour a retired in shore fisherman that could predict the weather very accurately for about a week in advance and give a very reasonable guesstimate for the weather to come over the next couple of months or so. sadly he died recently. but there are many others with the same set of skills they do not need satellites or weather balloons why they are not employed to give us something we can rely on is beyond my understanding so to my question ... does anyone know of any source of an accurate published or even broadcasted weather forcast please? and for those that recall the early days of radio hallam when the djs used to lean out of the window and tell you what the weather was actually doing.... please nothing like that and here's a btw does an-yone know why tv and radio weather presenters bother to waste time of which they are allowed precious little usually to inform us what the weather has been like all day... like that matters to anyone?
  19. people making claims that they are refugees of some kind or other make their way from africa and the middle east. the majority are male and obviously not too bothered about leaving their families behind in the same situation they claim to be running from. their stories it seems come from bulls and are brown in colour. would we want such people to settle here people that have scant disregard for their own families are not really looking at all like potentially desireable citizens they attempt to come to this country without permission and in numbers. when people in numbers try to enter your country uninvited like the normans and the other norsemen before them and of course the romans the angles and the saxons its called an invasion, don't forget the spanish tried and were repelled the french and the germans threatened and were disuaded and most if not all made no declaration of war prior to the events that took place. none the less we stopped them because we didn't want them what do you do when being invaded .. you repel it. all the british navy has to do is intercept and either sink or tow the boats they find back and then damage them sufficiently to prevent them being used again. .... it only takes one bullet out at sea to sink an inflatable not that I agree with filling the sea with synthetic materials obviously ultimately inevitably and most unfortunately there may be unavoidable casualties that's the price that invaders choose to pay and those that do bring their children seem to be willing to accept the possible consequences of their chosen actions. again would we want people that are willing to put their children at risk to become citizens of the uk i would most sioncedrely hope not. but when word gets out that attempting to invade britain is futile and not without hazard perhaps all these potential freeloaders (legally they are not allowed to work nor may anyone employ them) will be deterrred and consider that might want to settle in france. when that happens then perhaps the french will think twice about allowing these people to set up camps as jumping off points for their low key but none the less invasion of brittain. its time to make a stand ..say more to people we don't want and take steps to stop them from comming here to those that hold an opinion different from mine you are entitled to it though i would like to see how you feel about all this when your children and grandchildren have to live with the mess you did not oppose.
  20. what you say about chinese students is generally true. but not 100% there are chinese students off ecclesall road living in terraced houses perhsaps you ought to verify your information before you quote it as gospel. and what i said was a suggestion that i have heard apparently worked in one instance.
  21. If you are playing some sort of tune (however badly, whether or not it is even recognisable) then you are busking not begging and the jobs worths in red (so called ambassadors ..that's a laugh in itself) don't move them on, which they would do if they were begging. what one actually has to do to be classed as a beggar is none too clear. it is very likely these days that before any of the people became homeless they already had a mobile phone. i have given homeless people old mobile phones and charged them up for them. and i know other people do that too. you might not be aware of it but sheffield centre is full of points where you can access wifi using some of the apps that are available it can cost very little to use a mobile phone also you can text which is often part of the service deal. if they spend a very little amount of the money they are given just to help them stay in touch with each other exchange information and help retain their sanity then i see nothing wrong with that. it all rather depends onhow you use a mobile phone if you mostly use it to receive then the expense can be minimal. giff gaff Our £5 goodybag plan gives you 500 MB, 150 minutes and 500 texts each month. i once sat down on fargate to talk to a homeless woman and was told by a nazi in red to move on when i asked why he said you can't sit there i pointed out that as far as i was aware the benches were for anyone to use and then asked him to stop bothering me or i would ask a police officer to deal with him. i also asked him quite loudly if he got some kind of perverse kick out of bullying homeless women and some people started to stop and start watching... he eventually went away when he noticed he had an audience. yes the old woman you mention is a fake through cctv she will have been seen her getting in and out of cars. she does not seem to get in to any trouble for this blatent scrounging i can't think why although it has been suggested to me that she does not get moved on or arrested because she id foreign.. i do not know if that is true.... i can quite believe it but it might not be accurate information. it is not just older people that give money to the homeless i have seen school kids doing so on their way home and oter yoing people too. of course some of the recipients were not genuine which does not diminish the generosity of the gift but please do tell us all how you accurately assess the authenticity of homeless people. i have my methods just a few questions answered correctly is usually enough to satisfy me.
  22. who paid for it and were they consulted?... who calls that thing art and what is great about it? has there ever been an attempt to find out what the sheffield public think of it?
  23. very true for a lot of people. im lucky the black bin even though it is emptied only every other week i more than suffice for all my needs. which includes all the council's leaves i have to clear off my property throughout about 6 months of the year. if anyone wants to poke through my trash when its out on the street to look for cans and bottles they are welcome to do so.
  24. a lot of area in sheffield have at some time or other had bad reps.. such reps take a long time to fade away. WG is not much worse than the manor or arbourthorne used to be and is improving .. its certainly not as bad as page hall and parts of nether edge or darnal are presently, having said that i would not wish to raise a child in any of those areas. children tend to follow the expectations of their parents and their peers. your childrens peers you can try to choose by wise selection of location. it is a high crime area.. but are those crimes committed against people who live there or are they committed elsewhere in the city by people who live there? does that mean you are more likely to be a victim or more likely to become the parent of a crimminal.. i can't say.
  25. might i suggest making the noise as suggested by Ducky only start it at 7:00 am.. if they have had a late night they wont appreciate that and that time of day gives them not much of a leg to stand on if they want to compalin about you. also ultra high pitched noise can be useful ...too high for you to hear if you are older than them ... but not a good idea if you have kids. if your neighbours kids complain ...blame the students.. however if you moved into a student area i have no sympathy for you re their noise and smells. if was not a student area when you moved in you have my every sympathy... ridiculous as it may sound... if they are chinese write to their embassy... i heard of someone doing that and the effect was almost immediate... maybe coincidence maybe an urban myth but only costs a stamp to try.
