I tried this out yesterday, in a fit of social responsibility (and in search of nice fish) It costs £1 for one hour, or £2 for an hour and a half to park at Decathlon. It takes less than two minutes to walk from Decathlon to the market. If you need more time, there is the charity car park next to the Decathlon one, I don’t know how much that costs though.

If you are prepared to use the slow train, an off peak day return Sheffield to Grindleford for the group, plus an off peak day return from Grindleford to Piccadilly comes in at £48 too. Giving you flexibility to go and come back when you wish. Obviously cheaper with a railcard. ETA: Sorry, thought you said two kids. For three, the combined day return is £55, which might still be worth thinking about.
