Colin Pitchfork To Be Released From Prison
Baron99 replied to crookesey's topic in General Discussions
I'd find it difficult to defend anyone who murdered someone else, Jackson's family will no doubt, never be able to put his killing out of minds but going back to the rehabilitation aspect, like I stated previously, the fact that both Gallant & Ford put their lives on the line that day is commendable. Gallant also received a Royal Pardon as a result of his actions & as previously stated, we've not heard a word about them since, therefore, they don't appear to have re-offended. I'm unaware if either Gallant or Ford are monitor by the authorities but I'd say that time would have passed & only been short lived anyway. The same can't be said for Pitchfork. As whether Pitchfork's sexual drive has diminished, that I don't know but then what has happened to his psychotic tendencies? Do they diminish with age? Presumably, he'll be on some kind of medication & be trusted to take it. The fact he'll be on the Sex Offenders Register, suggests he's still a long term risk; suggests the sexual deviant behaviour is still there & his actions need to be monitored, including any use of Internet access, something which wasn't around at the time of the murders. Time will tell if Pitchfork can be rehabilitated? He'll have all the help going. -

If it had been normal, non-pandemic times, Wembley would have been full so they wouldn't have had a chance of gaining entrance & grabbing a seat. -
Colin Pitchfork To Be Released From Prison

Of course I disapprove of releasing Pitchfork, as much as I would have disapproved of releasing the likes of Brady & Hindley but the law is the law & a tariff was set. Would I trust him? No. Do I believe that he has rehabilitated? I don't know but you have to take into consideration his self confession that his behaviour began in his early teens & he's personally admitted to exposing himself to over 1,000 women. This escalated to sexual assault / violence & then on to murder. This from his trial "A psychiatric report prepared for the Court described Pitchfork as possessing a psychopathic personality disorder accompanied with a serious psycho sexual pathology." His behaviour is deep rooted. He will have to be monitored 24/7 in order not to give in to his compulsions. Let's hope that in the months to come, let's hope we're not seeing a spokesperson from the Home Office / Probation Service / Parole Board saying, we got it wrong on this occasion but lessons have been learned. -

As I understand it, there were no such things as 'security fences' that the media were going on about. By that description, you'd be imagining fencing at least 2m high linked together by those large concrete blocks. In reality, the 'security fences' were the bog standard fences about 1.5m high & were only being used to 'snake' the crowds in to Wembley in order that people could be checked for Covid vaccination details / test results. I hear people on the news blaming the Wembley security & the police. What about simply blaming the drunken idiots for causing the problems in the first place? -

Colin Pitchfork To Be Released From Prison
Baron99 replied to crookesey's topic in General Discussions
That question I can't answer because I don't have the gift of foresight. What can't be disputed is that on that day, both Gallant & Ford tackled an individual who had just killed two people in cold blood & injured several others in the Fishmongers Hall. They didn't know if the suicide vest he was wearing was a viable bomb. They could have run away, like the majority of the general public would do but they decided to tackle Khan to stop him harming others. The fact they are convicted murderers, should not negate or diminish their actions. Looking at both the convictions of Gallant & Ford, both crimes were abhorrent, especially Ford's killing of a 21 year old woman with a mental capacity of 15. Gallant's being a revenge attack on the firefighter, who himself had been acquitted of murder. It is noticible in the case of Ford that shortly after he murdered, he apparently called the Samaritans to confess. Now let's consider Pitchfork? Pitchfork, rapes & kills a child & basically for a period of time gets away with it. Do his actions make him remorseful? Of course not, he goes on to repeat the crime again months later against another child. He shows his devious tendency in trying to get someone else to provide a DNA sample on his behalf. The man is a psychopathic, sociopathic, sexual deviant. Now if the role of prison is retribution, rehabilitation & risk to the public, Gallant, Ford & Pitchfork have all served their time, been up before the Parole Board, been assessed by highly qualified experts, (although as we now know in the case of Usman Khan, experts can be fooled into releasing a prisoner early) & are deemed fit to enter society. As I stated at the start, I could not, (or neither can anyone else), state whether Gallant or Ford are reformed individuals but given that we've not heard about them committing any crimes in the past two years & given their altruistic actions in tackling Khan that fateful day, they appear to want to make some atonement & contribution to society again. Let's see what Pitchfork's contribution to society is? As far as I've read & heard, there's still no remorse from him. He'll be on the Sex Offenders Register as far as I can see, so has to be closely monitored, so to me that suggests he IS still a risk & remembering a Panorama programme from a few years ago, the Probation Service do tend to 'mislay' a lot of offenders placed on the Register. The question I would pose is who would you rather have living in your locality? Gallant, Ford or Pitchfork? Just a footnote to the above. The various agencies now charged with protecting Pitchfork on his release are now considering allowing Pitchfork to change his name, giving him a degree of anonymity. -

My bold. Of course, Great Britain does include Scotland where a 'Not proven' verdict can also be returned where the accused is acquitted but there is still a suggestion that the accused is 'guilty' but the prosecution did not provide enough evidence to fully secure a successful & safe guilty verdict. -

My bold. Well one of the men who tackled convicted terrorist, Usman Khan, during the Fishmonger Hall / London Bridge attack, James Ford, was himself a convicted murderer. Of course, Khan managed to convince a number of officials that he was somehow rehabilitated & let out on licence, half way through his sentence. So you takes your choice in asking the 'Can anyone be reformed?', question, clearly some can't but I'd say most probably can. Saying that, I wouldn't trust the likes of Pitchfork. His devious tendencies were shown right from the start when he tried to get someone else to take his DNA test. From what I've read, he is deemed not to now be a risk, having spent a number of years in an open prison, being allowed to come & go. Doesn't seem that the public were informed on that aspect of his sentence. All this contributes to him now being considered a 'low risk.' -
Consequences Of Brexit [Part 9] Read First Post Before Posting

Well the EU wouldn't need any help would they, if the French abided by the rules / directives which they were heavily involved in drawing up, would they? But then again, many wouldn't be surprised. C'est la vie, eh! As for potentially damaging the environmentally sensitive sand banks, I'd expect nothing less from a nation responsible for blowing up, sinking & murdering a photographer on Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior. -
The Balearic Islands are back on the Amber List from 04:00 on the 19th July, after a spike in cases. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-57839184

While in other news, the Belgians are taking legal action against the French for siting an enormous wind farm off the coast of Belgium, in French territorial waters but in Belgium airspace, which as the wind turbines will be 300 metres in height, could cause potential problems. Additionally, the siting of the wind farm may also disrupt the traditional shipping route from Belgium to the UK, including the Oostende route, as well as damaging environmentally sensitive sand banks. https://www.themayor.eu/en/a/view/flanders-joins-lawsuit-against-french-wind-farm-8334 There are apparent EU directives that state that neighbouring member states affected by projects such as this one, must be consulted first. The French have just ignored the relevant directives & are pressing on regardless. What! The French doing as they like & ignoring the EU rules. Well I never. EU brotherly love, eh? -
West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin, has declared that face coverings will still be a mandatory requirement, (medical exemptions accepted), after July 19th in all West Yorkshire, indoor bus stations / transport hubs. Wonder what Dan Jarvis or SCC will suggest?

Is Kelham Island Becoming Overdeveloped?
Baron99 replied to Baron99's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
What are we saying? The young, trendy metropolitans & the Victorian cricketer lookalikes, tattooed down one arm are becoming NIMBY's? Just like most of us. -
If I have to use public transport I'll be wearing one, just as I'll judge what other places I consider crowded & wear a face covering in those as well. I just keep a mask handy. At the end of the day, the Govt has passed the responsibility on to the individual & in the case of transport, the transport providers & it appears to local authorities. It may be the case that in the short-term, large retailers may also impose their own restrictions in order to protect their staff & try to limit the number of staff infections & therefore reduce the number of staff off sick or just self-isolating?
-
London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, is maintaining thst it will be compulsory to wear face coverings on the London transport network, (buses, trains, trains passing through London & the Underground), regardless of the Govt lifting restrictions on the 19th July. Transport Minister, Grant Shaps is quite happy with this situation & will leave the decision on mandatory face coverings to individual transport operators & local authorities. Radio Sheffield were running a story this morning saying that SCC are considering such an option. In the short-term, it seems to be a prudent move considering the opening up of more of society.

Looking at this story from The Star, it appears that what attracted people to the live in the area in the first place, being part of a population living in a post-industrial, is now being lost with current residents now opposing new developments. https://www.thestar.co.uk/business/bittersweet-decision-as-sheffield-tools-business-sells-to-housing-developer-3305964 As the piece states, even the Kelham Island Tavern is to be swamped by nearby developments, many of which are for short-term lets. I must admit, the last time I was down that way, it was less like a post-industrial, historic area & more like it was becoming a bog standard, housing estate. I'll give it 20 years until it becomes another inner city slum with associated problems?

The SDLP leader has used parliamentary privilege to name one of the soldiers involved in Bloody Sunday who was facing murder charges, despite the judge in the case stating that 'Soldier F' should be granted anonymity & the case was on the brink of being dismissed. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-57825284 "The Foyle MP named Soldier F during a debate in the House of Commons on the Armed Forces Bill on Tuesday afternoon. The soldier is also facing five attempted murder charges." One of the reasons given is that the soldier's name is already out there on social media. -

One of my grandchildren works as a civil servant in Sheffield & they've, (there's around 2,000 of them down at Millsands), basically been working from home since March 2020 & apparently it all works a treat. They've been told that the majority will now only be required to return to work at their offices 50% of the time, the rest will be home working.

Well the tax-free daily allowance of £323 would keep me in beer money & like all Lords, he could claim an additional travel allowance. Clearly he doesn't share his father's ambition of abolition of the HoL? Or maybe he's like socialist firebrand, Lord Prescott & intending to cleverly & secretly work on dismantling the the HoL from the inside without us plebs realising?

Scotland are easing restrictions from 19th July but they are maintaining mandatory use of face coverings for some time due to the spread of the Delta variant. The Scots are also continuing with limits on outdoor numbers & the return of workers to workplaces is to be delayed. A more cautious approach from the Scots then.
