Simple the energy companies buy in advance and they will have bought today’s energy ages ago when the price was higher.

You are absolutely right both parties are at fault on this subject. There is no proper planning and warnings about shortages have been going on for years. The problem is that it is expensive and each government wants to leave the problem for the next one to pay

sorry you are not comparing like with like the fares on 11th April are different from what I was looking up on 24th April - true advance fare may not have been released as yet to airport even if they have been to Piccadilly

If you are traveling by train to Manchester airport and buying advance purchase tickets you should check the cost of buying the tickets to Manchester Piccadilly and then a separate ticket to the airport you could save a fortune on the same trains an example from a random date 24th April leaving Sheffield on 13.11 Transpennine express to Manchester Airport £33.90 24th April leaving Sheffield on 13.11 Transpennine express to Manchester Piccadilly £5.40 + £4.90 to airport booked separately

No the government is paying for it not the operators I would have said it is Stagecoach taking the p**s there is no reason why they can not still offer a cheaper return
