  1. i see. Its probably more cost effective to buy salt and an RO filter
  2. SAS off abbydale road, sadly closed about 2 years ago, dobbies is crap and expensive, fish inc is now closed (or closing this weekend), and blue ocean is in the process of moving, sheff aquatics no longer stock marine, and tinsley garden centre is pretty poor for marine Currently there are no marine shops in sheffield nearest worth going to are wharf at pinxton, interfish at ossett, cockfields near oldham and the abyss (probably the best) in stockport
  3. nutter. So to stop a recession/depression all we need is some catchy headlines? Are you for real? But, if im being less flippant, id say that the meeja did have a say in the causes of recession by offering the unopposed opinion that 'high house prices = good', that 'low interst rates = good', and that 'debt = wealth' - all of which are nonsense We been smacked up on cheap credit, and plenty of it - that is the cause of the problems we face, and this was obvious well before the media started talk of recession
  4. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mEKbaD7FgbU/SgFWqm1H0pI/AAAAAAAAALY/g_wi4dWZSdc/s400/hpc.png Green shoots everywhere...
  5. If you have a mortgage on this property, you are obliged to tell your mortgage lender you intend to rent it out. They may require you to swap to a BTL mortgage. Depends on the small print in your agreement iirc... hth
  6. Well CPI is up this month, but this for some reason has been eclipsed by the 0% RPI in the press. Of course we have already seen that CPI as an iflation target is ignored if it doesnt fit the low IR agenda, so i wont hold my breathe. The fact does remain though, that we have yet to see any deflation and the printing presses are running, so id expect inflation to start its journey to the moon pretty soon. Whether IR will will rise soon enough is another story though...
  7. jeff, if you are not embarassed by your offer, its not low enough
  8. Im still unsure about this, but currently 'theoretically' on the side of the deflationist also, mainly on the basis of the amount of 'money' being destroyed However...We're being told about the dangers of deflation, but other than houses and stocks, im just not seeing it in my day to day spending. Food prices are certainly not falling, and as you say the weakness in sterling is causing inflationary pressures on imports (have you seen the price of the new Mac Mini?). Im wondering if the deflation meme was put out there to 'ease' the way for printing money with the intention of inflating debts away. One point i would raise about no inflation without wage rises, is that nowhere is it written in stone that we have the right to be able to afford food. Its quite possible for the cost of necessities such as this to rise and we're just not all able to afford them. Now thats a scary place. But like you say its all a 'maybe'. Only one thing is sure if this Gov can **** it up any more, they will
  9. Halifax data for feb says -2.3%, -17.7 YOY... recession back on, eh?
  10. A really interesting comparison is one of the UK and California housing markets - the similarities are quite amazing, except we are running about 12-18 months behind
  11. thats wierd. The only people i see who are talking of upturns are either BTLers, estate agents or mortgage brokers. Even a cursory look at the figures for every part of the wider economy suggest that the fabled green shoots are several years away, with things to get worse before they get better. Sky news is hardly a n unwavering bastion of journalistic integrity either, is it? Its as bad as pravda the BBC for its general pandering to the hard of thinking Each to their own tho...
