  1. What a shame, a great book about the early music scene in Sheffield. I still have mine in pristine condition along with the CD that came with it. Funny enough it was something a lad's dad said to him about wanting to play in a band, that inspired the book title. That lad was the recently deceased Mal Hooley, RIP.
  2. Did they clean it up before it became Rebels? Lol
  3. What is the location and what was it prior to Roxy?
  4. Don't know it, but the description sounds a lot like the Penthouse in the 70's . Mind you that was lot's of fun, despite the messy environment.
  5. Only part of Hadfields merged with Dunford &Elliot in 1967, about 35% went to Osborn's and became known as Osborn-Hadfieds, including the foundry and all casting related buildings like the fettling and pattern shops, shell moulding . Also two machine shops (2 and 4), a bucket shop and lots of other services. They did share the main entrance, works maintenance and canteens etc. Don't know anything about the Brown Bayley thing in 1973, I had long gone by then.
  6. This what happens in a credit card World, people will pay what they are told and the banks will charge 20 plus percent on top . Modern life epitomises the "live now, pay later" mentality, more so than the old hire purchase of the 50's and 60's ever did.
  7. I think Phil Collins was joined by the lead singer of Earth Wind and Fire on Easy Lover, can't remember the name. Or was it Stevie Wonder?
  8. Yes, it was Mike Rutherford's side project whilst Phil Collins was having solo success. Tony Banks played on the odd track too. The band was essentially Mike and the two Pauls, the other musicians fluctuated quite a bit
  9. Spent all afternoon listening to 80's and early 90's Mike and the Mechanics albums. What a great band they were. Not many bands could boast 2 lead vocalists as good as Paul Carrack and the late Paul Young (RIP).
  10. 39 and 42 quid, I can remember when it was about that in shillings and pence. What the hell do they charge in the Premier League then?
  11. Too much there for such as me to answer. However, I have a comment on your question 8.) The Americans entered WWII not just for the Pearl Habour but because Hitler, foolishly declared war on them soon after the Japanese attack. Had he not done that, the US may have simply concentrated their resources on the war in the Pacific. On the nuclear bomb issue, those events ended a brutal regime and saved, perhaps millions of lives by avoiding prolonging the war and invading Japan with land troops
  12. There were lots of songs better than the one I stated, but it was the sentiment of the song, that best fits my experiences in the 60's
  13. One song from 1968 sums it all up for me..." Those Were The Days". We really did think they would never end.
  14. I agree on what you say, but this is the their third album since Alvin Lee left them. Not sure how successful they have been however. Didn't Alvin call another band of his Ten Years Later? I seem to remember reading something like that in his obituary.
  15. It wasn't just the Cannon, you could get cheap stuff from all the pubs around that part of town, Brunswick, Bull and Mouth, Norfolk ,Rotherham house etc. Once approached by a shady character in the Kings Arms at the top of Commercial St. He took his jacket off and he had a load of watches strung up both forearms LOL
  16. I stand corrected, not a fan of American sitcoms so it wouldn't be amiss for me to guess wrongly:)
  17. When I saw the thread title I thought it was about the Magic Roundabout, and Zebedee had moved to Sheffield
  18. I thought Benson was a spinoff from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Could be wrong though.
  19. There is enough footage to round them all up when the crisis is passed. Looters do not get light sentences either in the US.
  20. If you think that you should look up Til death us do part written by the same guy, also Love Thy Neighbour . Google Bernard Manning too lol
  21. Remember the dustbin men and curry and chips, man do they look dated today? lol
  22. Bursitis is not the tip of the elbow it concerns the sac( bursa) which surrounds the elbow to fill with fluid, usually after a bad knock. Do what the doc said and watch that it does not become infected. You will know if that happens as you will get a fever and your whole arm will swell. I'm no doc but I have had bursitis a time or too, including an infection.
  23. It was funny, it seems like you kept seeing the same groups of lads from pub to pub. Never saw a lot of fighting though, mind you we were all so well dressed that no one wanted to ruin their suit . We saved the fighting for out of town pubs, with second tier clothing on ha ha!
  24. Yeah the acid is why I only like cider in a black velvet. The stout/Guinness takes away most of the acidity and tartiness but the flavour is still there.
