  1. He was pretty good in Soldier Blue. He was one of the first British actors to master an American accent, of course Gary Oldman did it, second nature,in later years.
  2. As Chuck Berry, a black man, once sang, 'Too much monkey business for me to be involved in"
  3. Not much point anyway, most of the best pubs have gone LOL ---------- Post added 09-01-2018 at 23:51 ---------- Question from someone who has not seen a Sheffield derby in at least 40 years. How many derbies have been played at night, talking scheduled league games not cup ties or the like? I don't recall any in the old days, at least, I never went to one at night.
  4. Funny you should say" all publicity is good publicity". The Life Of Brian film made George Harrison, the main financier a ton of money, mainly due to the clergy urging people not to go see it LOL
  5. Yes, I know, I should have said North America. I once had a condo in Florida in a 20 storey building, same applied there. I think it was an American thing to begin with, anyways.
  6. I bet you are relieved that you don't have to clean up after him anymore. ---------- Post added 09-01-2018 at 19:59 ---------- Never lived in a high rise in England, so I don't know if it is the same , but over here no apartment buildings have a floor called the 13th. You go from 12 to 14 in the elevator. And before some smart arse says it ,I do know that there IS a 13th floor, it is just not called the 13th, but the 14th. Silly but true.
  7. Posted on this thread ie History and Ex pats this morning about a new documentary of Joe Cocker . Check out the Entertainment Chat thread, that's where it got transferred to. The doc. is on Netflix by the way.
  8. Ah, but Midnight Run was a comedy, a spoof on all the movie types you mentioned, bloody hilarious.I don't think there was a death in the entire film, despite all the action. They don't make them like Midnight Run anymore, one of my all time favourites.
  9. Queen was not just Freddie it was a joint effort and Freddie was the vocalist of a group. As far as I have seen the other three members are still playing so they have every right to call themselves Queen. Pink Floyd still kept their name after Roger Waters left and Don Henley's band is still the Eagles even though he is the only original band member. I fully understand you preferring to see the original foursome of Queen however, so would I, just disputing your point about the Queen name. By the way I have been a fan of Paul Rogers since his time with Free, but that was not my issue here, nor would I dream to compare him with Freddie, two totally different styles.
  10. When I was younger, I used to love excited, shrill female voices. Nudge, wink ,know what I mean?
  11. Cocker, Mad Dog of Soul. Brand new documentary( I think) on Joe's life now on Netflix. Check it out folks well worth watching, it covers his career from starting out right up to his death. Chris Stainton is featured in it quite a bit, talking about the early days, Woodstock etc.
  12. You may be too late for Bob Seger too, he cancelled several tour dates this year on doctor's orders, and it is believed to be a serious issue. Hopefully not life threatening, but his concert touring may be over. I saw him about 30 years ago, great act. GlennFrey of the Eagles ( they were still not back together), who was mentored by Bob, made a surprise appearance.
  13. This a little story about me before mobile phones were even thought of. I was just at my work station and the plant manager, a very stern, humourless individual, came all the way from the 3rd floor of the office building all the way to the top end of the workshop and told me my wife was on the phone. I toddled off back with him to his office and picked up the phone. While the boss was sitting about two feet away, My wife asked me what I wanted for my tea, pork chops or sausages. I glanced at the boss and said to my dear wife, 'OK then, no problem, don't worry about it" then she said "but which do you want?" In a strangely muffled, under my breath type of voice, I uttered something resembling that talking dog from the telly saying, "sausages".
  14. 2 great actors, one great director and one terrific film American Gangster 10/10. And it is mostly all true.
  15. By wrong people do you mean folks like Frank Lucas and John Gotti, to name a couple? One black and one white, ,there you go.
  16. In the words of the song "Garden Party" by Rick Nelson. "You can't please everyone, so you just have to please yourself" I find that idea works for me.
  17. And let's not forget the machines that go PING! They probably cost 5 times more than they should.(Sorry about the Monty Python plug). All nationalised entities get screwed. When I lived back there, the money that British Steel and the NCB were doling out to contractors was absolutely incredible and many times the work was unnecessary. I know i was a contractor, working in both industries in the 70's. Back handers to engineers and plant managers was rampant.
  18. David Bowie sang it best, "I'm Afraid Of Americans" lol
  19. You are talking plan view, if you are standing in Sheffield facing Derbyshire for example, Ireland is to the right.
  20. Watched a couple of similar American " comedies" over the holiday period (Netflix). I give them both 4/10 mainly for stunts and special effects. John Wick and I Am Wrath are the titles. What a load of tripe, each film had more fatalities than Hacksaw Ridge and that was a war film.LOL
  21. Actually it happens a lot, my youngest daughter, who is a Paramedic and her hubby who is a Cop, often work Christmas Day and they both say that people are always coming up to them and thanking them for working it. Of course, they do make triple time, but still someone has to do it and they help give fellow workers with young kids, that precious day off.
  22. Thought this was going to be about Harry, the Tottenham footballer or perhaps that Citizen chap.
