  1. I see. Thanks for why it could be happening, RollingJ. And do you know what or where the damage could be on the disc, and whether there's any chance of fixing it? Physically it looks absolutely fine.
  2. As soon as I place the DVD in the laptop, it starts making some sort of a very rough clunky sound. It won't even auto-play and there's no icon when there's usually a disc inserted.
  3. I think supportfor Win 7 ended a few years ago. But what I can't understand is, the laptop's about 10 years old, and the DVD player about 17! Do you think it's the way they've produced the 'problematic' DVD that's causing the issue? That it's somehow not allowed to be played on a laptop? Only on a DVD player?
  4. Hi all. A certain DVD won't play on the laptop but is fine in a DVD player. Other ones have no issues. They play both on the laptop and DVD player. What could be wrong? I've a Win 7 laptop btw. Thanks.
  5. Hi all. Is it possible for fibre broadband to travel down ordinary copper telephone wire? Or does there need to be a completely new line installed for fibre? Thanks.
  6. It's like that other rapist, Warboys. You wonder if their names had anything to do with their sick actions.
  7. Why is the Wimbledon crowd so smug? They seem to laugh at anything the players do. Highly annoying twits.
  8. Hi all. I'm expecting a delivery from Royal Mail and then I receive a scam text asking to pay a delivery charge otherwise the parcel will be sent back to the sender. I'm more worried about how the scammer knows about the delivery. Has someone from Royal Mail passed on my details to them? I can't think of any other way they could have gotten the info.
  9. Why is Starmer such a wet blanket? And is he really a Tory plant? That's the only explanation why the Conservatives were so successful in the elections.
  10. I don't like the 'changed' fragrance even though it's supposed to be exactly the same as before.
  11. Hi all. Is there a reason why certain producers of anti-perspirants/deodorants always change the fragrance every couple of years? And for the worse too? Over that time I've noticed Brut, Sure, and Right Guard all doing the same. I tend to buy about 5 or 6 in one go, and by the time I need another 'set', they've gone and changed the fragrance 😠 As mentioned, this has happened to all the producers I've highlighted above. Why they do it, I'll never know. Really bad for the consumer.
  12. Could FB be blocking mass IP addresses? That's the only logical reason I can think of.
  13. Hi all. Everytime I try to create a FB account, I always get an error message to say it's been disabled?! Why is this happening? I've cleared cookies and even changed IP address, but still no joy. What could be wrong? ☹
  14. If he was Muslim, it'd be front page news for days. Islamophobia sells.
  15. Thanks FM for all your patience and hard work in this thread. Much appreciated 😊
  16. Hi again. I don't live too far from the Bradford area and the waste is in reference to household. Here's a link for a bit more info: https://www.bradford.gov.uk/recycling-and-waste/household-waste-recycling-centres/residents-permits-for-household-waste-recycling-centres/
  17. Hi all. I don't live in Sheffield but presumably the procedure will be the same for all councils in England. Once you're issued ssued with a permit, do you need to show any other proof to the guy at the waste disposal site? And what does the actual permit say? Will it have your name and address on it? If no other evidence is required to dispose of your waste, then it's a pretty farcical show. I mean, you could give it to anyone you like from anywhere in the area, not just those in your household. Unless I'm wrong of course. Thanks.
  18. I've done literally everything in the following links (except to take the laptop apart): https://www.google.co.uk/search?safe=strict&source=hp&ei=fU9lXrqxJcOelwS68KaIAg&q=toshiba+l655d+black+screen&oq=todhiba+l655d+bla&gs_l=mobile-gws-wiz-hp.1.0.0i22i30l5j33i160l2j33i22i29i30.3725.14832..15582...9.0..0.178.2580.3j19....2..0....1.......8..41j41i160j41i22i30j0j0i131j46i131j46i131i275j0i131i395j46i131i395j0i395j0i10j46j0i13j0i13i30j0i22i10i30.yqtioWelkyk
  19. It's too risky to take apart the laptop just to access the battery. And even if it's dead, I'd still be able to use the laptop with a charger plugged in. It seems quite a few people have had this issue with a Toshiba laptop; even probably other makes too. A simple Google search will prove that. So in theory, if I don't use the laptop for a month or so, what are the chances of the CMOS battery dying? Bearing in mind the laptop itself is definitely about 10 years old.
  20. Hi all. I've got some issues with an old Toshiba laptop (L655d model). It shut down due to overheat whilst in the middle of an application. Now everytime I switch it on, I'm presented with that dreaded black screen. I've tried various methods to resolve it, but sadly nothing. My only option left is to wait for the CMOS battery to die and then re-boot after. Logically if everything's erased from the settings, it should start afresh. Question is, how long do I need to wait for that to happen? Will a month do or even longer? Thanks.
  21. I'm sure it's not that difficult to do it yourself. All you'd need is a compatible cable to connect the VCR to the laptop, and the right software. Free online I think.
  22. What about dentists who charge about £22 for a 5 minute check-up?
  23. It's a film I bought for about £6.00. Granted, it's not a huge amount, but I dont really want to 'lose' it.
