  1. Here tha goes again. You are completely wrong and I am not whoever you think I am. You seem to have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with me and you are just wasting your time. My name is Zeb and I work as a lagger, I don't know who you think I am other than what the other member told me but you are comically wrong. Your negative attitude, rudeness and hostility won't prevent me from posting and giving my opinion if that is what you are hoping. In reply to your question, Yes I actually watch a good bit of the development football. The majority of the defenders are younger, inexperienced and are not yet fully developed physicality wise.
  2. Still got a big game against Stoke coming up and even if he misses that it is no real issue in my eyes as full fitness has to be a priority. By the sounds of it Evans was given a staggered training regime at Chesterfield to get him back into shape gradually therefore it is no shock that he got injured. He then went on a paid for his own structured training programme out of his own pocket in order to get himself fit enough for the move to us and his now undergoing a strict fitness programme to get him 100% match fit again. He has had a couple of minor niggles and it has been a slow burner so far but he will get there. In the meantime Wilder is in the market for a striker with Will Grigg very heavily rumoured amongst others. We have Billy and a very lively looking Lavery and others in rotation. I'm not worried at all. Would rather Ched comes in to the fold fully fit that throw in in and lose him to a strain or tear for 6 to 8 weeks later on.
  3. Wednesday won't win the cup will they so might as well give young George a competitive run out in that and see if he is any good. He wasn't a world beater in the Toulon really and was regularly out muscled by big boys, luckily David Brooks was there to offer him stuff on a plate and win him penalties really. In the development league he very rarely came up against big lads at the back and the championship would be a huge step up and shock to the system for a very slender young lad. If you play him in the league then it has to happen in the first half of the season and not the business end.
  4. No we played in our new fantastic purple kit and despite initial concerns that it may have been a little dull, it is a beautiful kit. Had it been blue as you put it, then it wouldn't be our first away shirt that touches on dark blue as we have had a couple in the past. This one is most definitely a beautiful, deep, ribena purple. It is a very classy kit indeed but then this is what you come to expect from one of the finest manufacturers on the market in Adidas. ---------- Post added 22-07-2017 at 13:38 ---------- It is meant to be a nothing injury and more the chance to get himself 100% fit again.
  5. Finished 1-2 to us for any blades who didn't know. Was a really good match and Rotherham played quite defensively which meant we had to play some very good football to cut them open. Some of the attacking, passing play was as I have seen from us in Wilder's management so far. A negative being that Moore was stretchered off early doors. Not too sure what happened there to be honest but hopefully just a precaution fingers crossed. What was interesting is that Wilder played his normal wing back thing and it is still working very well and the new players are adapting to it very well with some very nice, wide, passing play. It looks also however that Wilder is looking at that switch to 4-4-2 when he needs to and we look steady but still attacking never the less. Brooks looks great again and made the second goal which was scored by Stevens who also looks like he has settled very well and looks lively. Duffy is fit now as well and came on late so no doubt will play Stoke and a big mention for Lavery who is looking the best he has looked for us and caused Rotherham loads of hassle. ---------- Post added 21-07-2017 at 22:48 ---------- He held back of his leg for a moment but then looked ok but then went down with it. Didn't look in agony or anything but obviously uncomfortable with something to go down. Don't really know Lien. ---------- Post added 21-07-2017 at 22:53 ---------- Just seen Wilder's interview and he said that he felt something tight at back of knee and that as a precaution he came off and will have a scan this weekend. Hopefully more nothing than anything but never the less we are in the process of bringing in another keeper. Would be a shame though as Moore is really solid.
  6. Local sports journalists get it wrong quite a bit as we all know therefore please feel free to provide actual evidence of this said ÂŁ3m bid.
  7. If you would be kind enough to provide a bit of proof of this said bid? Only in this day and age it is normal for agents to "instigate interest" in order to bag his player a better deal and line his own pocket. Apparently United lodged bids for and were supposedly desperate to sign Jason McCarty? Well at least up until Chris Wilder absolutely laughed it off when asked about him. He then went on to explain that he wasn't ever on our radars and that we weren't interested in him and sure as hell didn't table any bids for him. And then we have the social media generation in which rubbish / spoof twitter rumours these days get spread around like wildfire before being picked up on by lazy journalists and even bookmakers.
  8. I will when you answer my question of how it has proven detrimental to the club? And how the double sale of Walker and Naughton for ÂŁ10m was detrimental and led to us tumbling from the top flight to league one?
  9. And you attribute this to selling academy players? The only notable academy transfers out of the club at that time was a double transfer of Naughton and Walker, both of whom were young and raw. Whilst this wasn't a welcome move for us fans, it raised a ridiculous amount of money, which at that point the club needed to balance the books. Needless to say that the sale of these two players wasn't the reason for our decline, walker even came back on loan and couldn't do much to help a club in free fall. Our tumble down the leagues was nothing to do with Academy sales what so ever and I am bewilder as to how you are trying to attribute it as being detrimental? Please provide an explanation and proof? The real reason behind our downfall was that our fall from the top flight led to a huge transition in the club. Top flight clubs and even Championship clubs cherry picked our best talent in Tongue, Kilgallon, Beattie, Kenny, Cotterill and many more as they knew we needed to get the wage bill down in the long term and balance the books. Over the course of several seasons, bad management led to mediocre replacements being brought in and a heavy reliance on the loan system, inevitably this cost us in the long term. Nothing in the slightest to do with your "theory".
  10. In what way have our academy player sales been detrimental to the club? Pull the other one! #envy
  11. This is what makes me chuckle so much when they harp on about our chairman and his comments regarding "Liverpool sized investment". Whilst this may be yet to be seen, we now know that you can beat Wednesday and achieve promotion with Rotherham sized investment so happy days.
  12. John Lundstram is undergoing a medical up at Shirecliffe this afternoon. Another very shrewd signing by Chris Wilder as he snaps up another Captain and Player of the season 16/17. The former Everton academy prospect spent his younger career doing the rounds on loan however joined Oxford in 2015 and stood out to the extent that he was made captain at 23 years old. He then went on to lead his team to promotion as captain. Ticks all the boxes, brings leadership and current form to the party. This doesn't end our interest in a creative midfield such as Leonard as Lundstram is more a defensive midfielder. According to Wilder, we are still very much in the chase for Leonard also.
  13. In answer to your question, three of our academy players have graduated into the first team set up in recent months and all three have been heavily involved in our pre-season set up. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that the new "british quota" rules mean that it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep hold of young players, especially in League One anyway. Whilst selling young talent isn't ideal, it can't really be avoided and the sales have generated income which has gone into first team recruitment (eg Calvert Lewin most recently).
  14. May I remind the Owlerton mob that David Brooks very recently outclassed your very own "wonderkid" George Hirst in the Toulon Tournament? Against Cuba, our lad stole the show and as a result was man of the match. As matter of fact Hirst should thank him really as it was Brook ripping the oppositions back four the pieces that got Hirst his goals, what with his assists and then penalty which he selflessly allowed Hirst to take. You can conclusively say that Brooks made that hat-trick for Hirst. As the tournament went on Brooks was by far the stand out man for England and in the tournament as a whole, it was no wonder to see him named player of the tournament really was it. I must say that after all this talk of Hirst being "world class" based on his academy level goals, I did expect a lot more from him. He scored 4 goals in the tournament, two of which pens and three of which made by Brooks, who scored two himself. I can only conclude that should you lot adjudge Brooks to be anything less than absolute quality, then George Hirst isn't all that really is he?
  15. Bramall Lane is owned by Sheffield United PLC along with all other fixed assets therefore very much remains the property of the football club as a whole and hasn't been transferred away from the football club in any way, shape or form. The only difference being that by introducing Sheffield United Leisure (Sheffield United Ltd) they have been able to separate the fixed assets from the footballing side of things. Contrary to your opinion, this actually makes us a more attractive proposition for potential investors as unless they are willing to buy the club outright, they will never become majority share holders anyway. Having no responsibility for the upkeep of the stadium and other assets means that any investment made will go straight into the footballing side of things. Money men don't want to be in the Championship because there is no money in it, hence why Mr Chasiri wants that promotion. It isn't about the love for the club in the slightest, it is about the mega bucks associated with being a top flight team. Any investors in United would be in it for the same reasons. They way McCabe has structured things means that potential investors can concentrate on football, getting promoted and bagging a profit.
  16. Quote one: - When asked about whether FFP allows the club to spend £9m on Jordan Rhodes. “The management of the chairman is doing very well, because he cares very much about the Financial Fair Play, which we must follow. “If you don’t adhere to FFP and get three or four players of high standard, take a risk, and get promoted that’s okay. “But if you don’t get promoted, then maybe the club will have a big problem the next season. That’s not our way.” Quote two:- Again when asked about Jordan Rhodes permanent in January transfer window. "People must understand that since the beginning we know where is the best players in the competition, but we can’t put the club in embargo,"Carvalhal said when asked about potential targets, specifically Rhodes. Quote three:- When asked about January transfer window. "There are four players with value that [can] come inside the team and make us more strong. I wish more that they come back to the team than I bring another players from outside because if we go to market in January, of course, we will be with limitations." Quote Four:- Owns Chief Operating Officer Joe Palmer last season, pre Rhodes signing. "It is not esstential for the Owls to get promotion this season but warned: “The longer we stay down, the risks for making losses gets higher in theory, especially if the price of players and salaries continues to go up.” Quote Five:- On Mr Chasiri being forced to sponsor north stand in order to stay within FFP. To raise additional funds, chairman Dejphon Chansiri recently confirmed he has sponsored the North Stand of Hillsborough. Palmer said: “These things have to be done to make ends meet. People have to accept that that is the cost of having a top Championship club. “If you breach FFP, you are looking at fines and embargos but we don’t want to go down that route.” You will find when last years accounts are publicly released, that Sheffield Wednesday's operating losses are debt are increasing significantly due to throwing money around. The sponsorship of the stand wasn't solely to allow the club to sign players, but to keep the club the right side of the FFP boundary and to balance the books after falling the wrong side. The Jordan Rhodes deal wasn't possible on a permanent because the club were at the top end of FFP rules, should they have signed him and not gone up they would have risked the wrath of fines and embargoes. Obviously the club didn't fancy their chances of promotion therefore didn't risk the signing. Rhodes signing this season pretty much swallows up all of the money saved from the 6 released players and again the club are hovering at the top end of FFP rules and are pushing the boundaries no end. Due to this they now have a limited budget to add players, Carlos openly states this. The open communications from the club back up everything that I have been saying, it isn't scare mongering at all, it is producing fact. You lot interpret it however you want, maybe you lot have got that used to throwing the cash here, there and everywhere that you don't want to accept that by being lavish on certain big earners and by being unsuccessful on two occasions has not limited you guys going forwards. Of course as top seems to be touting, you could just break the rules!. Is this really a sensible option though? The failures thus far are proving costly through being "ambitious", a third failure would prove very costly.
  17. The internet makes it incredibly simple to find the information therefore I suggest a simple search? In the same respects that it made it incredibly easy for me to obtain interviews and actually quotations that back up my debate with fact, which makes it far more than merely casting aspersions as you put it.
  18. The bold most certainly. The club have been quite vocal of late in regards to how far they have pushed the FFP boundaries and in a sense I personally feel that they are now trying to make fans aware in hope of lowering the expectancy to continue signing players. The Rhodes deal had to be deferred and initially a loan in order to comply with FFP rules, this deal going through this season pretty much ties up the majority of any available funds without breaching rules. This being why they now have to ship off more "dead wood" or shop on the cheap and hope players now come in and agree sensible wages, which wont be easy when so many players are already on high or differing wages.
  19. Firstly the two players that you single out. Ched Evans scored 10 goals in 28 games for Norwich which puts him about on par with your strikers last season considering your leading goalscorers on 12 goals. He had a bad spell with us in the Championship but then again he was in a team that was on a downwards spiral and very much in decline at that point. Therefore if we are forming opinions on limited periods / individual seasons, does this suggest that your 12 goal strikers are out of their depth? If twelves goals is the bar in which a player is considered to be of "Championship standard" then I consider Ched to be in with a very good chance of achieving that. Leon Clarke isn't going to be a first team player, in fact he may not even be a Sheffield United player yet. If he is however then he is very much fringe, rotational, sub, squad. You have no real basis to write Ched off though. In regards to the ÂŁ1.5m spent on Brayford, was it really silly money in the context of the bigger picture? The signing came on the back end of a really successful cup run that ended in the semi-finals at Wembley, a cup run in which Brayford as a loan player was a huge part. The prize money and TV rights alone will have pretty much covered a large chunk, if not all of Brayfords fee, therefore you could argue that Brayford was actually a free transfer for us as he was paid for by a brucey bonus cup run. The fact that Brayford suddenly became a fan favourite helped the club to shift a good bit of merchandise and probably helped put a good few bums on seats as well. Therefore when you consider the whole bigger picture, we signed a player who had impressed quite a bit of loan using free money that was generating from a cup run. Not only was he adequate on the pitch but also he was a fans favourite which made it a good commercial opportunity as well. It cost us what? Hardly silly money really was it considering the player himself agreed reduced terms to be at the clulb as well which made it all fall into FFP and into place. Anything else? And you may find this thread silly but all it does it outline things that your own manager has said, you may not agree with it and it may not match your opinion, however never the less it is still valid and backed up with a factual quotation and actual figures. ---------- Post added 17-07-2017 at 17:17 ---------- Your simple question was answered on one of my posts if you take the time to read them. Another poster asked me and I answered him. No need to be so rude, abrupt and demanding.
  20. Why is that? Simply because he isn't throwing crazy amounts about during the first window? Simply because he isn't pushing us right up the the limit of what we are allowed? The way I see it is that the manager is calling the shots at the minute. He has played down the budget that he has because he isn't willing to pay over the odds for any individual player. He also wants any new signings to fit into what he considers to already be a very good team, a team which he feels is more than capable of meeting the next target of cementing ourselves in the Championship. Why change what isn't broken? I keep hearing how our team is on lower league standard, yet the experience within it is far superior than what many wish to believe. I personally feel that our "Championship standard" squad is the main factor behind us walking League One, of course Wednesday fans will put it down to it becoming a suddenly poor league overnight. Simon Moore GK - Cardiff (Championship) Daniel Lafferty DF - Burnley (Premier League, Championship) Jack O'Connell DF - Brentford (Championship) Keiron Freeman DF - Derby (Championship) Enda Stevens DF - Aston Villa (Premier League, Championship, Europa Lg) George Baldock DF - MK Dons ( Championship) Richard Stearman DF - Wolves (Premier League, Championship) John Fleck - MF - Blackpool (Championship, SPL) Chris Basham MF - Bolton - (Premier League, Championship) Paul Coutts MF - Derby (Championship) Mark Duffy MF - Birmingham (Championship) Samir Carruthers MF - Aston Villa, MK (Premier League, Championship) Billy Sharp FW - Southampton (Premier League, Championship) Leon Clarke FW - Numerous (Championship) Ched Evans FW - Man City, Blades (Premier League, Championship) With the experience above, maybe it wasn't a fluke that we romped home in League One after all?. The simple fact being that Wilder has built a team full of experience and with many players who have a point to prove. Some may have been given the cold shoulder at Championship level and want to shpow themselves as more than capable of playing in that league. You may also notice a few of the new lads in there, the same new lads who are signed from the lower leagues? The same new lads who the majority have played at that level and higher, the same new lads who have won player of the season awards in their last campaign after standing out as head and shoulders above that level, the same new lads who many a Championship club have been scouting and many of which have bidded for. Ever thought that throwing ÂŁ9m here and ÂŁ5m there, may not be the answer? Well so far actually this has been proven to be true hasn't it? Whilst teams built sensibly and shrewdly have enjoyed success? We haven't even set our sights on promotion, as I keep saying all we want is to establish ourselves in that league again. So far nothing backs up the blue tinted rationing that suggests that we aren't equipped and will flop at that level. We have our way of going about things, you lot have yours. So far your method have been proven to be an expensive "nearly" method, ours on the other hand hasn't been tested yes has the right ingredients all be it different to the ingredients that you lot expect and want, this doesn't mean it won't create a good recipe.
  21. I fail to see completely what you are getting at here? The Premier League academy loanees may have turned out to be some of the most influential in the team however still accounted to a small percentage of recruitment into the club. Never the less a fantastic model of how these few loans can compliment a squad that is built shrewdly on a budget. I am struggling to understand the last bit due to lack of grammar however should you have concerns about who the owners of our fixed assets actually are? I recommend view the accounts which outline this in full. We are fine operating as we are. As revenue increases, we will grow with it and as our owners have said, "money will be available as and when the manager wants it".
  22. When a chairman turns towards personally sponsoring shirts, stands and what ever he can as well as increasing ticket prices to one of, if not the highest in the league. All of this to produce as much revenue as possible and to raise the FFP level that they are extremely close to and will remain extremely close to afterwards. This has to be considered "crazy spending on players". However in your opinion, it is completely fine to break rules as long as we are promoted because we will only receive fines and no embargo. With accounts now scrutinised over 3 years and with the level of investment that Chasiri has put in so far, can you guys really afford a continued lack of success in attempting to get to the premier league?. Mr Chasiri now has a continued commitment in sponsoring the shirt and stands because should he suddenly stop, you lot are up a creek without a paddle. He has now by the sounds of it very much stretched himself to the limit. His only option now would be to break the rules unless he has a massive sale at the club. It is all very stretched and hands tied behind backs now. I think "gamble" being a very apt word for what is going on now after previous failed attempts. How much is too much and how much is enough?
  23. Firstly I feel you may have me confused with somebody else old chap. In regards to the two signings, I feel that Boyd is genuinely a good acquisition and definitely addresses an area which appeared weak in the play-offs. In regards to Rhodes I think the jury is well and truly still out because he's not banging them in, although I believe that owls fans now state that he isn't about goals. I have seen the facts and statistics surrounding results whilst he was on the pitch however strikers are generally measured by goals. As for the pond that we are fishing in, I well and truly hope that it remains an exclusive pond because I am witnessing some of the best football that I have seen from a United team in some time. The football played against Malaga the other night was absolutely fantastic and just follows on from the fantastic football of last season. It seems we have this ever going debate about the supposed gulf in quality between the Championship and League One however there are fundamentally no figures to back up this statement. In fact the only real difference being that mediocre Championship players now cost three times as much as they did when we last played football in that division, hence Chris Wilder's "savvy" change in recruitment direction. All of the other pitch based statistics on paper remain exactly the same. We understand the challenge ahead however we are equipping ourselves for it nicely. Our core target this year is to secure and cement ourselves as a Championship team, this in turn will allow us to generate further revenue to become a more competitive team in that division. Of course we could go down the "sponsor everything possible" style that Mr Chasiri has adopted in order to try and buy a bit of success however this doesn't come without risk and in the immediate future isn't on our agenda. There are very good footballing templates to follow, for instance Huddersfield. All it takes is a new manager with a refreshing change in direction. He was able to construct a team on a relatively shoe string budget in comparison to the likes of you guys and the rest of the promotion chasing mob. By signing players from the German and British leagues and the complimenting these players with loan moves for young, top flight academy players, he was able to keep himself and his team out of the radar. And well let's face it the rest is history. ---------- Post added 17-07-2017 at 14:52 ---------- Why in their right mind anyone would wish for their clubs owners to breach financial rules is beyond me? Rules are in place for a reason and those who breach them should be heavily punished. Maybe the fine wouldn't bother him however the impact of a transfer embargo would be a completely different story.
  24. I believe the OP is actually referring to a military drone as opposed to the hobbyist type which has become the focus of discussion. I saw a post on social media the other day asking similar however the drone in question was over High Green, one can only draw the conclusion that it must be the same drone? To quote from there "Anyone else see the large military drone over High Green earlier? It was quite low and paying quite a bit of attention towards the area, wonder what it was doing"
