Spitting at someone is classed as an assault and is prosecuted as such. You really have to question the mentality of someone who commits a criminal offence that automatically provides DNA evidence of their guilt, especially as police officers seem to be one of their favourite targets.

Utter nonsense. They are treated as criminals because they have committed a crime. There is plenty of support available to addicts to help them break their addiction. If they choose crime instead of this support then they should suffer the consequences.
