  1. I'm pretty sure the Burmese have more [pressing matters] to contend with
  2. She didn't come forward as a witness. The article says the police came after her for questioning.
  3. Most of the female militants getting caught up in terrorism are unshaven, so I suspect the police were just profiling. Perhaps you should email Amber Rudd and let her know how unhappy you are with this. Her email address is privateoffice [dot] external [at] homeoffice [dot] gsi [dot] gov [dot] uk Good luck
  4. So if BoJo and Rees-Mogg are fantastic news for the Labour party, what are you moaning about then?
  5. Unless the likes of Britain and the US are willing to open up and discuss their vulnerabilities, the misery of mass shootings, terrorism, and addiction will remain intractable problems for the foreseeable future. In the social sciences we know that correlation does not imply causation. You'll always be expected to identify a third variable. In the scientific community we identified this 3rd variable decades ago. It's called loneliness. Does anyone find that surprising?
  6. Unless the die hard Brexiteers hijack the Tory party.
  7. The EU holds democracy in contempt but only when the result doesn't advance their political agenda. You only need to look at how the EU tried to punish the French when they voted against the Constitution of Europe, or when the Irish voted against the Lisbon Treaty, or when the Greeks voted against austerity. So of course when Britain voted to leave the European Union there was talk of punishment within Brussels and Berlin which absolutely didn't go down well with No 10, so unfortunately we had to start showing our teeth.
  8. Hitler tried that approach.. didn't quite work out for him.
  9. I'm pretty sure if Scotland held a faux referendum Theresa May wouldn't send the troops up North to inflict violence on Edinburgh. We've come a long way since the 17th century.
  10. @Sam, couldn't the Spanish government have just declared the referendum null & void instead of sending in their paramilitary?
  11. You're missing the point I was making which was the unfavourability of having political divergance between central and local governments. You'd be in exacly the same predicament if SCC was a Tory council operating against a Labour central government.
  12. And how is that working out for the Scotland's SNP? Sturgeon is licking her wounds because her attempts to hijack the EU referendum result in Scotland to advance her IndiRef agenda backfired and the SNP lost 20 seats in June's general election. Thankfully Nicolla Sturgeon has since conceeded it was the wrong approach to couple the two issues together, and relations with the Tory party have since improved.
  13. So I take it if Uber are allowed to continue to operate in London there will be outcry from a majority of Londoners?
  14. Who knows. The continent has a long history of subjugation.
  15. Soundbars are ugly and just add further mess and complication. There are plenty of flatscreen TVs with decent audio, however most people overlook this because they focus purely on picture quality at the expense of everything else.
  16. Lets not turn this into a linux vs windows thread. Alan is now sorted and his computer seems to be working.
  17. Yeah... that ideology is really taking off..
  18. Well put it this way, local councils that are aligned politically with central government enjoy a better working relationship as there's vested interest. Your politics will inform how well SCC are performing.
  19. Gee thanks! And I wasn't suggesting he installs linux, but modern PCs allow users to restore to factory defaults without needing to worry about external media and keys.
  20. My post got removed because it referred to different sort of jungle!
  21. I'm sure allot of Guardian readers are experiencing buyer's remorse with their Dyson vacuums!
  22. At least UKIP can keep the Tories in check
  23. This is what the offending product [looks like].. mmmmmm...
  24. The proxy war continues. The Prime Minister has now weighed in: [source] And I did say back in post #45 that this would escalate to the highest levels of government.
