  1. yes yes yes of course! Me and you know that but we're busy playing good cop bad cop. Brussels let slip they didn't like Boris so we're using it against them Welcome to the world of politics!
  2. That's fine, but if her position is made untenable the Tory party will replace her with their biggest political asset - Boris Johnson. We either work with Theresa May in pursuit of a mutually advantageous deal that works for both Britain and Brussels Berlin, or you get Boris.
  3. The rest of the world use physical ID cards or other digitally embedded systems to protect their taxpayers and prevent the abuse of welfare. Of course there's absolutely no reason why Britain couldn't pursue something similar, but ultimately the barriers which prevent us doing so are political in nature rather than technical. In the private sector for example its a completely different story. They've been successfully harnessing the power of modern technology to build elaborate systems that automatically prevent fraud and freeloading, and in many sectors of the economy it has become a fine art.
  4. It's not about trees or wonky kerbstones anymore, this is now a full-on power struggle between our Labour council and the people of Sheffield. If Sheffield council concedes on this matter they'll be seen as the defeated party which is why they're doing everything that's humanly possible to maintain their position - even if this involves imprisoning local citizens or spending hideous amounts of taxpayers money on PR, PIs, and legal to defend themselves.
  5. Junker's aid Martin Selmayr (German) has been at it again. He's leaked details of last week's private dinner in Brussels to a German newspaper. Source: http://news.sky.com/story/anxious-may-begged-for-help-from-juncker-11094641
  6. Have you ever walked down Fulwood road starting from the Broomhill end? The smell of exhaust fumes along Fulwood road is awful because the Victorian walls on either side of the road and the tree canopies creates a corridor effect which traps in the exhaust fumes. -- As for the rest of you talking about ride-sharing platforms, this is a well known theoretical model of reducing congestion, pollution, and the demand for parking. In jurisdictions where the ride-sharing platforms operate unmolested, the [environmental results] are outstanding. Again this is the private sector achieving this without any public investment. Unfortunately we don't see these results replicated here in Blighty, and its not because the algorithm is any different, but rather our antiquated private hire legislation (PHV) makes ride-sharing illegal here in the UK so you don't get the same socio-economic or environmental benefits like Uber does stateside. Most Sheffielders will never experience Uber like it was originally intended.
  7. Denial of science again, but you are human so I don't blame you. We cherish our ideologies far more than we do the sciences. As human beings we never evolved for truth seeking, it doesn't come naturally to us. So when we are presented with information that conflicts with our ideological positions, we simply deny the science.
  8. Whether you call them 'all weather' or 'summer' tyres is irrelevant. The point is they do not provide the same malleability or grip as winter tyres do in colder temperatures under 7 degrees. You don't need snow & ice for winter tyres to start outperforming their 'all weather' or 'summer' counterparts. You simply need colder weather (-20'c to +7'c) and you'll get superior grip and better breaking distances from your winter tyres, even on completely dry surfaces. Winter tyres are safer tyres in colder climates. This message was approved by Continental tyres .. just kidding!
  9. I was just going to say most of the posters on here must have done their driver theory many decades ago. Anyone who has done their driver theory in recent years should know that winter tyres provide better stopping distances in colder temperatures because they contain higher rubber content unlike the 'all weather' tyres that start to harden like plastic when they're exposed to colder temperatures.
  10. No <removed> Sherlock! Has the penny just dropped? What do you think drives economic theory? I'll give you a clue, it starts with a P.
  11. Because you can't have it both ways. You can't claim democracy is broken when the result doesn't align with your political leanings, and then fly the flag for democracy when it does! Of course he'd rather see UKIP in government but Nigel accepts that the Tories are the victors here, they won over 1 million more votes than Labour at the last GE and are therefore the party in govermnet and delivering on Brexit. Brexit has turned British politics on its head. All the parties are now being viewed through the prism of Brexit, and where you stand on Brexit now informs how you align yourself politically. Once Brexit is signed, sealed, and delivered you can expect another shakeup in British politics.
  12. Nigel Farage speaking at Liberty Nation says Brexit was a two-finger salute to the globalists, the JP Morgans of this world, and the political elites. Our slick former Prime Minister David Cameron did his best to shove IMF chiefs and world leaders in front of the microphone to persuade the British public to vote a certain way and it all backfired in spectacular fashion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM43pXyJgto
  13. Doesn't surprise me. I remember Nick Clegg's empty promise of resurfing every road in the city within a 5 year window. Well five years has come and gone, much like Clegg's political career.
  14. One of the worst places for air quality is Broomhill. Many areas of the Sheffield are twice over the legal limit http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/revealed-air-pollution-hot-spots-in-sheffield-where-deadly-fumes-are-more-than-twice-legal-limit-1-8533487
  15. I wouldn't be caught dead in German car. It's American or Italian muscle for me.
  16. As does taxis parking in the ambulance bays. When I was last at Hallamshire hospital there was a tailback of traffic that snaked all the way down Glossop road because an ambulance had to offload a patient on the pedestrian crossing in the middle of 'B' road because all the ambulance bays were clogged up with taxis and private cars. And from what I hear this happens daily and everyone just turns a blind eye, including the hospital staff.
  17. I love Jonathan Pie This is his latest video attacking the PM over Brexit. It all starts off very orderly and then quickly descends into NSFW territory
  18. Things have moved on with push-to-talk over cellular/wifi which gives you global reach. After hurricane Irma I was on a channel talking to good samaritans who were out in their trucks rescuing stranded dogs and cats. Biggest platform at the moment is [Zello].
  19. Your post doesn't surprise me West Tinsley. In WT's world you score brownie points for being classed a victim which places you right at the top and into the "good" basket. Meanwhile anyone considered privileged is condemned to your "bad" basket. You adopt this single totalising prospective in which you apply to everything. Go back and look at your previous threads. Do you think this is a healthy way of looking at social problems?
  20. Are these the same "thick" individuals that successfully managed to defy David Cameron and the Tory government when all the odds were stacked against them?
  21. Tory boys + working classes united in their joint contempt of Labour. You couldn't make it up!
  22. @Angrymum Ask your son to get himself an [NUS card for apprentices]. Most bus drivers accept NUS cards as proof of student status. Plus he'll get 10% off all his shopping at the Co-op supermarket
  23. That's what our friends on the continent do out of desperation.
  24. That men and women are equal and there are no differences between the sexes.
  25. Corbyn would have lost his seat, and the Tories would have won a majority. These changes are BRILLIANT!
