  1. If the smell is fusty then it is probably due to damp - almost impossible to get rid of. If I smell damp in a charity shop I won't buy. One item can 'infect' all the stock.
  2. I remember the HERB shop on Barber Road and also one on Winter Street. Amazing smells and drinks and very cheap.
  3. Thanks again for your interest - Muslin Welfare Centre with prayer room. Prayers are said 5 times a day and you get more blessings from Allah if they are said together although it is NOT obligatory. The noise is made at their dawn ( which is now about 3.30 am) gets earlier as the summer moves on. Visitors drive up and engines roar, car doors are slammed, lights flash and the whole place is lit up. We sometimes hear chanting. This will last about an hour then the car noise starts up again as they leave. We also have noise from taxi drivers' cars as they are allowed to 'drop in' for prayers at any time. Met with Iman who shouted at us and said Council had given him permission.Tried to pursue matter but to no avail yet.
  4. Not in Islam - it can be as early as 2.30 am ---------- Post added 11-05-2017 at 07:28 ---------- Thanks Never had sleep problems until now - it is the being woken up at all hours that is the problem. Saw my GP as it was causing extreme stress and although she gave me light sleeping pills I was warned that they could exacerbate an existing heart problem and are addictive. I have now trouble getting to sleep but even with pills I cannot sleep through cars doors slamming and the noise from the gatherings. I would move if I could but duso I will close this thread now.e to my age and health it would be very hard to find somewhere. Fed up with the whole business
  5. Thanks for your replies. It was 3.16 this morning when it kicked off again. I did call 101 to register the complaint yet again but the perpetrators claim they have Planning Permission to open at night for all and sundry to attend Prayers. No help from Planners or environmental health.
  6. Dear Ms Macbeth, Thanks for your suggestion. We have been down all the routes available but unfortunately, the powers that be seem reluctant to take them on.
  7. Here I am, awake at dawn thanks to my neighbours. Why are some sections of society exempt from the Law and are allowed to disturb residentss in the early hours.
  8. Could we not have a politics free zone on the radio. The public voted in the Referendum for what they wanted - we need it Now. By the way I rate Rony as excellent. Class does not matter but manners, aspirations and consideration for your neighbour are things that matter.
  9. my father was the engine driver at weeden st and sheepcote lane from the 50's until they retired the engine and him in the e70's. His name was Jimmy O'Connor.
  10. Thanks - my carers have not yet had a payrise. It usually amounts to about 20p. Want to know what the council is doing with the extra money given to them for social care.
  11. Thanks for replies- I pay towards my carers wages and my contribution has risen by almost 25% from April.
  12. Has anyone had their contribution to Council Care costs upped by 25%?
  13. Where does Boris get the idea that all teachers are middle class. We were ordinary working class people (my father drove an engine at Firth Vickers. However, I passed the Scholarship and saw it as a way to improve my lot. I eventually became a teacher and hoped I helped ohers to use education as a means to get out of poverty.
