Trees being chopped right now on Crawford Road!
silentP replied to moneyworries's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Does this boast usually include the Peak District though, the map shown doesn't. Even without the loss of trees it's apparent Sheffield would not be number one if it was based on foliage within city limits. -
Britain has more people living abroad than any European country
silentP replied to Titanic99's topic in General Discussions
Many of the homes are holiday homes, there aren't so many permanent resident Britons but the fact remains that we do settle in other parts of Europe. I don't know whether some people are hypocrites or just plain blind to facts but migration is a two way affair. I believe that the majority of Britons, including Leave are fine and accepting with migration because they see the plus side, it's a little sad that the minority make the biggest noise though. -

How do you cope with the guilt of having a pet pts
silentP replied to louise554's topic in Sheffield Pet Owners
I've never felt guilty, only sadness over a friendship coming to an end. It's an inevitable eventuality but it's so damned hard to say goodbye, it's a massive loss but that's a measure of how we feel about our pets so that's a good thing. -

Do you care about your grandchildren's future?
silentP replied to crookedspire's topic in General Discussions
Have to say (again) that I don't do things with the next generation in mind, I don't see that I owe them a future, the same as I don't hold previous generations responsible for past events. Our son will make his own way through life, we've guided him as best we can and he knows wrong from right, no axes to grind or grudges to bear. He doesn't hate me for my choices politically or otherwise, why should he, to say that he'll never forgive is an untruth. He is intelligent enough to understand that people make their own choices for their own reasons. -

Hopefully never enough to make the difference but there are always pockets reserved for silly folk

They can think what they like, I'm quite happy that we opted out of that particular trend. I don't think Americans could cope without them now, it's so entrenched that life without would be scary, though I gather there's an even split for tighter restrictions, there is also (according to one survey) a difference of opinion between Democrats and Republicans on ownership and use.

It's asking the question whether we should!

Do you care about your grandchildren's future?
silentP replied to crookedspire's topic in General Discussions
That's a massive undertaking and extremely unlikely as it requires every level of society to make a concerted effort to change, nice thought though. -
