  1. I’m not sure whether this is the same family but the Elizabeth McEwen that I remember was the daughter of Dr McEwen whose practice was in Hoyland. He was our family doctor. I think that Elizabeth was about the same age as my sister, Jean Wroe.
  2. Lady Mabel College was in Wentworth near Rotherham in the grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse. It was a college for females who studied Physical Training. i.e. went on to teach PT.
  3. Elizabeth Gale went on to sing for English National Opera I’m sure. I remember going to see the school production of Carmen when she played the lead. My sister also sang in that production which was very good.
  4. Journey should be pretty straight forward. Via the M62 onto the M56 to North Wales then A55 to Llandudno - good roads all the way. Alternately over Snake Pass to Manchester then onto M56 - follow signs for Manchester Airport - then to North Wales etc. Same if over Woodhead Pass. Llandudno isn't a bad place to visit - route is scenic in North Wales.
  5. Is that Kirk Balk in Hoyland? If so then although I didn't go there myself I knew people who did.
  6. I went to Ecclesfield Grammar School in the sixties - was in the year after Eddie Birkby, Mick Dumpleton etc.. My form teacher was Mr Smith who taught Spanish. I remember Ug Cornwall, Billy Buck, Dicky Endall, Harry Birkby etc.. Enjoyed playing football for the school team. Travelling around South Yorkshire to play in Doncaster, Barnsley, Colne Valley etc.. ---------- Post added 07-01-2017 at 20:48 ---------- For some reason have been unable to open the pic although am sure that have seen this pic elsewhere. Geoff Padgett's name was mentioned. Geoff is still alive and lives in Elsecar, which he always did. Stuart Beckett, who also came from Elsecar was a good friend of Geoffs' although haven't seen him for years. I remember Mark Tomkins who was a good footballer although a few years older than me. Other good players who were there at the time were Mick Dumpleton, Paul Dolby and Clive Wigginton who had a long career as a professional. ---------- Post added 08-01-2017 at 22:59 ---------- Looking at the pic again I remember the name of the girl who is standing directly in front of Geoff Padgett. Her name's Christine Norton who was also from Elsecar. Her elder brother, Brian, also attended EGS.
