  1. Try the Car park at Fairholmes near Lady Bower, pay and display and plenty of easy walking and bueatifull scenery, picnic tables and small cafe/gift shop. Pubs within a few minutes drive. Failing that take them round the gift and jewellers shops at Castleton.
  2. I use Paddocks, Doug Dransfield, ALR and WGB Autos on Highfield place 0114 2556315. Sure to to get sorted at any of them. I have 3 Landrovers but am currently breaking a disco 1 if you need any parts?
  3. I remember Reg, we were at Chaucer school from about 1970 - 1975, same class to start with. Lived on Vere road if I remember correctly. We were in the Army cadets together, at Parson cross then Norbury Hall, till I left to join the Paras in 75. Think I've seen him twice since. He was a good friend. One thing I remember was his loyalty to his pals, you were never outnumbered when you were with Reg, he never ran away, stood his ground against ayone.(and we did do some daft things back then) Give him my best regards, hope he and family are well.
  4. LoopyLou, thanks for the reply, I've PM'd my phone number, if yours sisters interested in doing this for us, please pass it on.
  5. Looking for someone to write in my Son a nd Daughter in laws wedding photo album. Must be exceptionally neat and stylish please. Maybe 1 or 2 weeks from now.
  6. Did a clutch on one once, wouldn't go there again - no help from porsche they just want money. Try and find a specialist, may well be cheaper in long run, but you pays your money takes your chances. Good luck
  7. Stalkers not shut, and I don't believe it intends to either. Stu's doing a great job and turning it around. You want to call in one weekend and feel the atmosphere, its probably the friendliest pub around. I don't get in as often as i could, but allways made to feel welcome. Come back and try it sometime:thumbsup:
  8. I was in Mr Crowes class in 69/70 and remember his spelling test allways ended in silhouette, (see Ross I can spell it now - took 30 years but i did it). I also remember his friends Tom Dick and Harry. I wonder if he remembers dealing out corporal punishment? I remember some of the other teachers too, some good some bad, some complete ***** that would be jailed nowadays. I can honestly say i never miss school, but then again i couldn't have been a joy to teach!!
  9. Just had a look, all around where I lived in late 60s and early 70s, some memories. Dosn't it look dated now?
  10. If you want old photos, try the current detachment commander at Norbury. In 98 there was about a shoe box full dating back to the early 70s. I was there and on the cross from 72 - 75, had changed to Para cadets then. Left joined the Paras, came out, re joined as Det Commander 96 - 98. They were in an old filing cabinet, real old ones of 'Monty' as drum major and various visits inc Lord mayors parade in city! I remember most of the names of cadets and adults. Good times.
  11. Theres also another post and thread running on same topic, if you have a look. I also added some tips on water. Tight lines
  12. Half the fun for me was being out and about, i used to enjoy the walk to and from as well as the climb. If the weather was bad, you would just pick an easier route, allways seemed harder when raining or snowing. The equipment wasn't so technical then and lets not do the safety thing. I helped with some instruction in the mid 90s on Burbage, so am reasonably familiar with modern gear. I used to lead at HVS to mild XS, about 6a in modern terms and solo at about 5a. Anyway, I hope you stick it and enjoy, especially outdoors:thumbsup:
  13. Yeah i suppose so, you don't allways see the big picture sat here. I just presumed if you were using a climbing wall you had experiance, and could just nip out and bag a couple of routes. It was what we used to do when we were young and daft, couple of hours after work till it went dark.
