  1. Locate and detain the guilty maybe, but to lock up and detain the innocent fot no other reason than fear and prejudice. Well I suppose that is a very Thatcherite thing to do. I really can't get into this whole argument, it makes me lose my faith in humanity to see so many narrow minded people completely unable to see the point or the importance of the issues. P.L.U.R
  2. Well due to the heavy handed nature of the policing, these things have to be kept a little discrete
  3. I'm not going to make any comment on the nature of violence on these protests as it's a no win argument, but just want to add my support to the right to protest and say that I will be there to say my peace on the day, no matter what the government or police say. Power to the people and all that
  4. "She's a sixteen-calibre kitten, equally equipped for killin' an' lovin'! She carried a sawed-off shotgun in her purse, a black belt around her waist, and the white-hot fire of hate in her eyes!" Also True Romance "Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, a half a pack of cigarattes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Jake: Hit it." Blues Brothers and "DINGO: And after the spanking, the oral sex." Monty Python and the Holy Grail
  5. Had mine done earlier this year at feline tattoo (excellent place to go. Very professional) with a needle. Made your eyes water, but wasn't anywhere near as painful as people said. And not even a quarter of the pain of getting my nose reset, after someone broke it (the breaking didn't hurt a bit, just the reset) Was a bit of a bugger keeping clean for a while, but mild saline solution works great. Go for it, get it done, you know it makes sense.
  6. Whenever going through town I always give money to the old homeless guys in town, most of which probably are alcoholics, but they tend to be more honest than a lot of the younger men on the streets who can be quite nasty when you can't give them anything. Last year I was walking with a friend to a house party from the Lescar, still with pint in hand, when an old homeless tramp walking past asked if he could have some of our beer. We stopped chatted shared the beer with him. Between us we manged to scrape together a fiver for him to help him out. Andf we felt so much for the poor guy, We invited him to the party we were going to. He wasn't sure at first thinking he might be imposing, but we convinced him, and took him along. All the people at the party greeted him very warmly, gave him free drinks and to see the smile on his face made it all worth while. Okay he did smell of wee and booze, but was a lovely character and nice to think he had a warm place to stay for the night and good company. I'd do the same thing again if the situation arose. Mainly with the old homeless/tramp crowd as you can tell they are in real difficulties as opposed to some of the youngsters who can be chancers. And all pity for the alcoholics, you can't chose these things and it is next to impossible to give up. Also there is very strong evidence that addictive tendencies is inherited (either through nature or nurture) not neccesarily alcoholism but being extremely prone to addiction to something, whether that be drink, drugs, sex or compulsive sofa buying. Not everyones life is so cut and dry.
  7. Have to say, although i enjoyed my time at THE university, it did absolutely nothing to help me find work or aid me in any kind of employment. But what do you expect with a philosophy degree. Think it was a great learning experience and I appreciate the knowledge and way of thinking it gave me, but then who wants a job anyway. :D
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression that there are more Sheffield locals at Sheffield Hallam than the other Uni, and probably a higher stay on rate by students from Sheffield University than Hallam. Just an impression i get
  9. I came to the University of Sheffield in 1998, when I was 18. Was born in the lake district to Liverpuddlian parents, raised in Scotland, Hampshire, the isle of Man and back to Hampshire again. Had an intense desire to return north again, as the people are so much nicer, chose Sheffield for it's greenery, finished uni in 2001 and have stayed since, I have now lived here longer than anywhere else (even though it is only 7 years) and don't think I would ever live anywhere else in the UK. Going to Australia for a year soon, but know I will always return to Sheffield
  10. Although not an MP, I am mates with Rob Cole the Green party candidate for Sheffield Hallam. Lovely Guy
  11. there's been a Heron in Southey Green recently, so could be that.
  12. i know when I was at Sheffield University halls in 98/99, we occasionally had the fire alarm go off, normally due to burnt toast or such like, never as a prank, and every time this happened the block responsible was fined the cost it would take for the firecrew to come out, taken out of the communal deposit. Whether students these days aren't as respectful as they were back then or what I don't know, but for them to attack the firemen, they must be a bunch of ****wits. I've noticed there does appear to be a big differencve between students of 6/7 years ago and now, would love to know the reason. Maybe as students have to pay so much for uni these days it is only the well off that can afford to go, and they go wild and cause trouble as soon as they are let loose from parental responsibilty. It is a shame, but as said many time you can't tar all students with the same brush.
  13. I take it that's in Dore? Have no transport so a bit tricky, but if you recommend it it could be worth the journey. Is there a menu on the net
  14. Can anyone reccomend a good restauramt for venison in the sheffield area, I've really been craving some for a while now, but it's not so common. J
  15. thinks it just a one off this sat, lescar is pretty well booked up these days, bnut should be a good crowd down there, only pub hours but a good laugh
  16. I used to like the place, but last time i tried to go they wouldn't let me in to a rock night on a friday. First they said I was wearing sports wear, i was wearing combats and a t-shirt, then they said no trainers - I was wearing boots, then they said I just wasn't allowed in, was wearing your typical rockers clothing and I don't look like trouble, probably wasn't trendy enough, i pointed out the big notice saying - no dress code and wear what you like, and they told me to get lost, then forcibly ejected a friend they had already let in. So went to the trendy Forum instead and they let me in with no questions. Needless to say I won't be going back again. Shame it was a nice place
  17. Well I know it's not quite what you asked for, but I'm sure that Uncertainty Principle would fill your desire for something dark and odd. Uncertainty Principle
  18. unfortunatey if 10 people leave messages on the number, it stops giving out the message. we had someone deleting them, for us, so it shouldn't have been off for more than half hour, but you must have just been unlucky, very sorry No mobile reception on location either, I had a right laugh
  19. Really sorry you couldn't get through. I reckon about 500?? managed to get through and find the place okay. What was the number doing, just being engaged, or giving a message? It still works now. Hope we'll see you at one soon. J
  20. I'm afraid I can't add anything constructive, but just offer my sympathies. After reading that nearly made me cry. From my experience teachers do very little to help in these situations, and making them more accountable can only happen by changes in the structure and organisation of the whole education system. Either that or castrate the bullies so they can't breed and raise more bullies (not serious)
  21. do you still have the house for rent? if so how much? A major **** up on the council/liberata front means i may be homeless very soon e-mail me [email protected]
