You can change the option for 'Who Can Send Me Friend Requests' from 'Everyone' to 'Friends of Friends' - but not to 'No One' Click the padlock icon in the top right > Who Can Contact Me > Change it to Everyone. Also remember you don't have to accept a request, and you can block people.

A burglars main concern is not getting caught. They won't stand and fight - what possible advtange could they gain? They could either get recognised, beaten up or worse end up on a murder charge themselves. They're not Tom Cruise in mission impossible.
