  1. If youuve seen one on someones roof, it usually means that someone nearby has s pond in their garden with fish in it. Bloke I work with lost 3 of his koi carp to herons.
  2. No...never taken time off sick when I wasnt sick. I also dont take time off if all Ive got is something like a cold or a headache or hangover. But, when I really dont feel well, I dont go. Dont see the point in struggling through the day and making yourself feel worse.
  3. I managed 12. Should have got more, kicked myself when I saw the answers more than once.
  4. Got any Clarky Cats? What about Yellow Bentines? Genius
  5. Saw it at the weekend, well worth watching.
  6. No, thats Sproston Green. Back to the original question, I live just up the road, near the Manor Top.
  7. Been to the one opposite Ponds Forge a couple of times, and its been ok, but the last time we went 9 out of the 12 of us who went got such bad food poisining they were all off work for a week, so we wont go there again. Went to Jumbo on a Saturday lunchtime a couple of weeks ago, and it was really busy. Food was excellent though, and Id imagine itll be even better when they open the upstairs so theyve got a bit more space to fit people in.
  8. http://www.puretelly.com for me, or the interactive guide on my cable box.
  9. Not any more they dont. They stopped doing R1 discs just before Xmas.
  10. The Rescuers at the ABC when I was about 4. I also remember my dad taking me to see Spiderman (the first one from the late 70s) at the Rex on Mansfield Road, and having to get the bus back cos the car wouldnt start.
  11. I live on the Arbourthorne, but was born and brought up on the Manor. Its not half as bad as people (usually people whove never even been near the place) make out.
  12. 2 computers, 2 monitors, 2 sets of speakers, cable modem, network hub, phone, lamp, scissors, nail clippers, scalpel, plasters, pens, wire cutters, screwdrivers, coins, stapler, superglue, batteries, an old network card, a bag of jelly beans and assorted cds and bits of paper. Bit of a mess then, really.
  13. And theyre not actually printable, theyre just generic white tops. Theyll work in the TDK thermal printer, but thats no good to me. I need inkjet printable discs, theyve got a special matt surface on them so my epson printer can just print direct to the surface without the need for sticky labels.
  14. Yes, but they use cheap dye. The ones I bought use Ritek dye, more reliable and less likely to end up as a coaster.

By the sounds of it, Blueyonders standard answer to everything now is "you must have a virus, its not our fault". The tech staff on the newsgroup are far better...they treat you as if you know what youre talking about. Phone support told me my machine was at fault, after posting traceroutes and modem logs to the newsgroup, theyve told me my SNR is low and have got a tech investigating it now. Use the newsgroup for your support, forget the phone, its crap.
  16. Theres always the other weatherspoons on Cmbridge street. Nicer than the bankers draft, cheap beer, and 2 meals for a fiver. Reasonably good food too, for the price.
  17. I just got back...nothing much there really. Was looking for a router, but they were asking stupid prices for them, I could have got the same ones they had there for 20 quid cheaper online. DVD-Rs were cheap though...£16 for 25 Ritek printable. Other than that it was the usual stuff, and a lot of it seemed really overpriced to me.

Theyre useless. Last night, web browsing on my broadband connection was incredibly slow. Id had better performance from my old 33k modem, it was that bad. Phoned tech support, they told me it was nothing to do with them, it was down to my machine, and I should "get someone who knows about PCs to have a look at it". After I pointed out that I probably know more about PCs than he ever will, having been building them for myself and others for the best part of 10 years now, and that I knew for a fact there was nothing wrong at my end, they hung up. So, I posted a message in the Blueyonder support newsgroup, detailing the problem with traceroute results and modem logs. Miraculously, I woke up this morning and found that it was now fixed, after chinging nothing at all on my computer. The tech support havent got a clue what theyre talking about half the time, and they just try to baffle you with tech speak, When they realise that the person theyre talking to actually knows something about computers, half the time they realise that the user can see throught theyre excuses for their networks poor performance and either offer to send out a tech, offer a refund, or, as has happened to me more than once, just hang up. Id ditch it, but theyre the only cable supplier in the area, and the cheapest broadband deal.
  19. I think it goes off when someone presses the bell button in the bit reserved for wheelchairs near the front. Might be wrong though.
  20. Tomorrow and Sunday according to a mate of mine...supposed to be going there with him so I can pick up some dvd-rs
  21. Get your network cards installed, get yourself a cable, then have a look at this . Should tell you just about all you need to know.
  22. An ADSL router, whether wireless or not, wont really be much use to him, since hes using dialup. Much cheaper to buy 2 network adaptors and a crossover cable and do it that way.
  23. Ebuyer and Tekheads. 2 companys Ive dealt with in the past and would never get a penny of my money again.
  24. Yes, it would be. However, that doesnt escape the fact that people DO get sick from time to time, and theres really not a lot we can do to stop it. It happens to us all. So, by your reasoning here, if you were to pick up some disease or other tomorrow and had to have a week off work because of it, then when you went back you got the sack for taking time off sick, that would be OK? Becasue thats what fatty said hed do in one of his previous posts. yes, some people abuse the system and take more time than they should, But why should the ones who dont abuse it, and only take time off when they really have to, suffer for that?
  25. Yes, every company has people who abuse the sick system. However, believe it or not, sometimes people do genuinely get ill and need to take time off. Fatty was making a blakket statement, basically saying anyone taking time off sick was a workshy layabout who didnt deserve a a job. He was also so far up his own arse it was untrue. Good manager? He wouldnt last five minutes with the people I work with.
