Thanks for all these - a great response from the Forum community and our local breweries.  I ended up buying a container of cask Session IPA from Triple Point.  I now plan to work my way through these other suggestions!

The Triple Point IPA was great by the way (as always!),  nice and safe click and collect service, helpful staff.

  2. IMHO the Raven is a great newcomer to the improving Walkley offer.  For a start it complements the Blind Monkey just down the road - it's a similarly small and friendly pub with great beer, but whilst the Monkey is gloriously crammed full of original Art Deco fittings the Raven is minimalist.   And it seems to be doing great business.  Such a shame True North couldn't make the Walkley Library conversion work, Walkley would be even better - maybe the people who resisted the Library's renewal could rethink?

  3. If True North have pulled out that's a great shame. Also IMHO it's a poor business decision. It's true that lots of young professionals are moving into the area. In my street alone, in the last year or so seven houses have been taken up by young professionals. It's unkind to label them yuppies, as some here have done: they're all really nice people, and are the future of our area. The proposed Library cafe bar would have been a great success, so let's hope there's another chance for it to happen.

  4. Could anyone help me with the time limit for parking in Bradfield Road Car park Hillsborough?

I have just received a parking charge notice from Highview Parking today 31/01/18 for £85 which occurred on 17th October 2017. The notice states I was parked for 16 minutes.

Please can anyone advise me if it has changed from a 2 hour maximum stay and do I have to pay the fine?

I know I should've read the signs before I left my car but having previously parked their a while ago I was under the impression you didn't have to pay for a short stay.

    Thanks

Same here, just got a ticke for last September, I didn't even park, was just waiting for a space!

  5. Hello All

I,m new to this forum and Sheffied. As I,m hunting for somewhere to live and dealing with my new job I,m meeting a lot of new people.

What would you say are the differentiating characteristics of people from Sheffield? The good ones, the bad ones, the unusual ones?

    Thanks

    Da ducky88

PS if any has a property to let south of crooks and west of the centre, drop me a pm, thanks :-)

The people are very friendly. I moved here from the other side of the Pennines, and immediately felt the difference between here and most Lancashire towns and cities.

  6. 3 new shop units, rebuilt building and houses on the land around the back. I believe it sold for £50K more than the guide price.

Who has bought the old Methodist church though? It's been empty for several years

Good to see the Mayor opening the new print shop in Walkley this afternoon. Bit of a buzz around the area these days

Ian, regarding the empty Methodist church, I understand this is owned by the adjacent Wesley / Walkley Ebenezer Methodist Church. I was told that the Christ Church people from further down South Road had raised sufficient funds to buy and renovate the church, but that the Ebenezer Methodist Church had refused to sell on the grounds it would be confusing to have different denominations on adjoining sites. IMHO that’s a shame as it would have been another boost to our community. Also we’ve a good pedigree of successfully changing denominations in Walkley – look no further than the Buddhist Centre! Of course I could be wrong about this – maybe someone from the Ebenezer Church or the Christ Church could comment?

Thanks Ian, that's really helpful. Agree about the new Walkley Print Shop, it looks great and will do well. Really good watching the hipster duo doing some live music outside it this afternoon!

  8. Does anyone know what's happening at the old Albert Ross Emporium on South Road, Walkley? It closed a few months ago and it's been semi cleared, but there's been no sign of any activity fo a while and no notices saying what the plans are. It's got great potential to make another contribution to Walkley's revival.

  9. I've been here since sunny 1976, fell in love with the friendliness of the people the day I arrived. The sububs are brilliant, the hills add something extra special, and it has some stunning parks (that's a topic for another thread!). Culturally, the music scene has always been brilliant. And nowadays it has some of the best beers you'll find anywhere.

You'll see a lot of anti-Sheffield threads on the Forum, but that only shows most Sheffielders aren't an arrogant lot! The cityrcentre isn't the best, but as others have said, that only really matters if shopping is really really important to you. And in ten years time big city centres will seem passe as online dominates retail.

Say you're a Sheffielder by choice, not by birth. :)
