  1. I have batteries fitted at Morris Bywater on Pinstone street £5 last time
  2. i I hope you do not become one of 1.5% who do not recover should you contract it.
  3. I do not agree with increasing the speed limit on Penistone road. Not due to costs but safety. There are too many pedestrians on that particular road.
  4. I would have thought the pavement width on the stretch of road in question is wide enough for dedicated cycle lane. There would probably be more cyclists than pedestrians on there.
  5. I use parcel2go.com. They find the cheapest and you do not have to provide postcodes. Hermes is usually the cheapest.
  6. I can see it now, a company rep turns up with his samples in his panniers, goes into reception and takes off his cycle clips and helmet. Informs the receptionist he has an appointment with the buyer. What will they think?
  7. If cyclists are to have their own piece of road then why not tax them for the upkeep.
  8. I have anew bike and panniers full of kit to do my job and I live on Jenkin Avenue. Heart attack waiting to happen.
  9. Maybe the council should give everyone a pair of roller skates or a scooter🛴
  10. I do not live in another city not far away, I live in Sheffield.
  11. This cost of parking is the very reason I do not venture into the city centre at all.
  12. I don't think Planner1 takes into consideration the time it takes to walk to the bus route, waiting for a bus, travel on said bus and then walk to a destination. If I were to use this method of transport it would be an all day job.
  13. If I could walk 40 minutes each way I would. This thread was started due to Shalesmoor being congested which is a ring road and is if I'm wrong supposedly a route AROUND the city centre.
  14. Only to create problems where there were none before
  15. Would it not have been a better idea to use part of the pathway to create a cycle lane rather than one whole lane of the road. That way everyone would be happy(ish). Even on Penistone road the cycle lane is intermittent therefore cyclists do use the main highway rather than their cycle lane. This in turn slows traffic down as the driver has to pass a cyclist at a safe distance and cannot do this due to traffic in the outside lane. I doubt people were trying to access the city centre, just trying to get home.
  16. It seems to me the Council are doing a good job of driving people away from the city centre with these "temporary" measures. I for one would guess these measures become permanent. I feel for the drivers who have to queue in the traffic along Shalesmoor. ECCOnoob has it spot on. Much as I hate shopping it's Meadowhall from now on.
  17. Tx denotes the head is Torx which is a trade mark and made under license. These come in a variety of sizes from Tx5 the smallest to Tx60 the largest. If your screws are all the same head size I suggest you take one with you to buy the correct size. These can be purchased from Wickes but would less expensive at Toolstation. Hope this helps.
  18. Appolo Metals on Saville street I find reasonable for small quantities. Also Kenrey steels at Deepcar may help. Good advice from Thorpist. Make sure the rods are dry too.
  19. Ah, this takes me back to around 1970/1 and we had every year an inter departmental 5 a side footie competition at the sports ground. I think No 2 fitters won it every year if memory serves. Great times, great people.
  20. I installed composite decking around 10 years ago. As already mentioned it can be slippery in the frost. A quick pressure wash in the spring and we are good for another year. I chose to have two contrasting colours for the floor and the uprights and hand rails. However, after time they seem to have blended into near enough the same shade so be careful in the choice of colour. One other point is that small hairline cracks have developed in places and there is nothing I can do about it. The cracks can only been seen close up and does not detract from the appearance. The company who supplied the materials reimbursed part of the cost when images of the cracks were provided to them, although they had no requirements to do so as it had taken over the original manufacturer, which by the way was American.
  21. I ordered something from E Bay and it arrived 14 days after it being posted. I did notify the sender 3-4 days prior to its arrival.
  22. Hi Bob There is two parts to lasting power of attorney. One for health and one for wealth. I believe it has to be and certainly better done by a solicitor who will talk you through and advise on everything as ours did. It isn't a lengthy process with the solicitor but it has to go to London (I forget where) which can take up to 8 weeks. I would imagine cost vary from one company to another but there are mandatory costs to make it legal. Both me and my wife did ours about 18 months ago and I thin it was around £1400 for both of us and for both health and wealth. Hope this helps.
