  1. I met an older guy in there one night who was from the Noble Organisation of Gateshead and he said he owned Baileys and a slot machine business. People were full of it in those days! Looking online seems the Bailey Organisation was from Stockton some 40 miles south of Newcastle. I wonder if they were connected? I remember the go go dancers in cages and a Caribbean girl dancer called Dawn. When they put the new carpet down the smell from fags stubbed out on it was dreadful!
  2. Many thanks for sorting that out Emambo and the timing queue - havn't got time to watch the full 45 mins right now! Absolutely classic! 'Black knight is a long way from home'. Love the silver platform boots.
  3. Crumbs - well I wasn't a regular! Know what you mean guvnor, say no more - do I sound like Eric Idle?
  4. You're right Torontony thanks for that reminder - Penny Black- also used to have go-go dancers I think?
  5. The only thing I remember entertainment wise on Bank St was Bailey's.
  6. I must be having brain failure. I left Sheff in 1983. Looking at my trusty blue Sheffield map I see Market Place/Angel St and yes that is where I remember the Compleat Angler but for some reason I remember the Mucky Duck being in Flat St off Pond St - what was that pub there then?
  7. I thought the Compleat Angler was down the hill a bit from the hole in the road opp the market? Did it move?
  8. Nooo! That was an American person. Google Helen Caunt Sheffield.
  9. In about 1981 I got stopped in Little London Rd in my S reg Ford Capri 1.6L with no lights on. Just come out of Josephines and had a few. Previous week got done for parking on a pelican crossing outside Napoleons in Ecclesall Rd Luckily it was just a pass on the breathalyser - that was it -virtually stopped going out and started doing up houses. It was time to grow up - - it didn't last long though!
  10. The Barrel at Bretton - rat in a basket food, Stoke Hall - they were the ones I could not remember. One night my mate drove her Ford Anglia into the hump back bridge at Grindleford - we bounced off! Got home, no worries.
  11. What a fascinating piece of history - it has had an amazing amount of views. Thanks to all contributors.
  12. I see that 192.com has a Helen Caunt living in Sheffield 11 age 65+ which would seem about right. No stalking now!
  13. They were golden days - I feel sorry for kids now not knowing that freedom.
  14. Dr Parkin on Nether Edge Road - he drove an old Rolls Royce. Died suddenly of stomach cancer in the 70s but you would never have known he was ill.
