  1. I was in cherry tree from about late 60's early 70's.My name is Paul Berry and I was there with my brother Gary.I remember raiding the store room and taking all the colgate so we could line our football pitch at the back of the home.Staff were not impressed:)
  2. I too remember donkey hill in both summer & winter. We lived on Idsworth Road.Does anyone remember during the school summer holidays the council used to put a cabin up where you could rent footballs.golf putters etc.
  3. Hi Bantycock Yes they were good old days. What is your name?I now live in Essex which is where my work took me nice place right by the sea.Garry & Keith live in Ontario,Canada and I still visit them.Struggling to remember names from way back but do remember Winston and a girl called Lesley Lawton (I think) who lived on Idsworth Road.
  4. I was back there about 6 yrs ago and I could have cried as the place has become like a shanty town. Most of the shops are now foreign owned. Not a place I would want to go back and live.Still I have my memories.Page Hall will always be with me.
  5. Garry Berry is my brother. The yankee you refer to was Keith who was a half brother to me.Yes I remember Winston. My name is Paul Berry.Good old times but how the place has gone down the pan.
  6. I remember this shop well as I lived at 4 Idsworth road which was the first house. If I remember correctly the guy who owned it was called Stan and they had a son who used to knock about with us playing football in the working mens club carpark.
  7. Remember well playing in Firth Park no matter what the weather.Hated it when the ball ran down the hill took ages to go and get it back
  8. thanks Hillboro for your information.Vincent will be a big loss to this world as he was one hell of a fella who took me under his wing along with Barbara when I was young and vulnerable.I am glad to see they adopted John he was also in their care when I was with them but he was a baby.Hopefully one of the remaining family will read this forum and contact me.Thanks for you help.
  9. I am trying to locate any family members of Vincent & Barbara Millington who lived on Upper Albert Road. They had two daughters one was called Kay.I was fostered by them many moons ago and wondered if any of the family are still around.Vincent used to work in the pits.
  10. Hi Alan I attended Hucklow road school and I would have left in 1963/64.My name is Paul Berry and we lived on Idsworth Road.I remember Miss Carding-Wells and good old Mr Bradley.I remember learning to play the cello so I could get into the orchestra as I had a crush on a girl who played clarinet I think her name was Jane Beeston. When I left Hucklow I went to Silverdale that was a daily trek.
  11. I went to Silverdale and had to travel from Page Hall which meant two bus journeys but you just got on with it.
  12. Hi Ozgirl I went to Hucklow road school from about 1961 - 1966 I remember Mr Bradley and his orchestra I only joined as I had a crush on a girl who was in the orchestra if I remember correctly her name was Jane Beeston and she played a clarinet. We lived on Idsworth Road.Do you remember playing rounders in the upper playground.I have since moved from Sheffield and now live in Essex. My name is Paul Berry
  13. Arthur It must have been embarrassing for you.Was Dr Pettigrew the one just down from the bank that sat on the junction I remember our Dr was down from there and I think there was a bus stop outside the surgery which took you into town past Burngreave.Interesting to see you reside in Canada as my parents and three brothers who were younger than me also moved to Ontario and still live in St. Catherines I did not go as I was 2 yrs into my apprenticeship but I have not done too badly. That was in 1974 before it all went downhill.
  14. As someone who was born and bred in Idsworth Road I have enjoyed the exchanges.Unfortunately I left about 40 years ago but plan on visiting shortly from the threads I have read it seems I am in for a shock.I still have memories (good) of been at Hucklow Road Junior school and was wondering if it still exists. For those who lived on Idsworth Road from 1956 my surname is Berry just in case anyone remembers our family.
  15. As a new member to the forum I was shocked to read about the state that Page Hall has now become.I was born and bred on Idsworth road almost 60 years ago and have many fond memories of my childhood like playing football in the car park of the Firth Park WMC.I remember mcgregors shop but I remember it was run by a guy called Stan Cave.
