  1. How many Chinese buffets have gone now? 5? 6? No 1. Landmark (Jumbo) . Flaming Dragon. Wokmania. U buffet. Its crazy.
  2. It sure is. Especially when every gay bar (except dumpseys) goes out of business after a very short time. Guess people arent willing to pay it. Now that is capitalism. Charge too much, no one goes, shutdown. Until the next idiot tries the same thing again.
  3. Arent they all in the same bad area as Dumpseys?
  4. More likely its someone who didn't like the competition, from a newer, cleaner, safer environment, in a better location. I have seen so many places come and go, I am not surprised really. People in Sheffield do not support clubs like OMG, they support seedy holes in rough areas like Dumpseys. Perhaps its because they are ashamed, and no one is likely to see them down the bottom of the Moor compared to on West Street? For me, if the choice is Dumpseys or stay at home, I'll never be going out on the gay scene again. No big loss really.
  5. Annie your posts are incredibly confusing and vague. Who is 'they' that are trying to get Trump to change his mind. And about what? How is this linked to the Mayor who has just called him a wasteman and wants to focus on Mexico which has zero to do with people of Sheffield. How is Trump threatening the livelihood of Sheffield residents specifically? As I recall Mr Trump said that we would be first in the queue for a trade deal, and then our government rather than taking that olive branch preferred to insult him and cosy up to the EU which we are leaving.
  6. Pity no one told him that his position is one of diplomacy. Now across the world Sheffield is linked with this stupid statement. Good luck with 'Made in Sheffield' selling in America now. And a time when we need all the friends we can get just before the recession really starts to bite. Wouldnt it have been so much better had he said:- "I do not agree with Mr Trump on many issues, but would love to meet him in person to discuss those issues. So he would be welcome to visit Sheffield any time."
  7. There is no part of education which deals in facts any more, purely propaganda to promote their twisted and suicidal world view.
  8. Everything in Sheffield is very poor. Which given our weather is not a smart move. Probably the reason they have funding issues, is because no one is really interested. I've been to the one in the park before, it rained all the time, same old faces you see everywhere. Would not go again. Its good to hear OMG is now free entry. Will probably go in the summer months. July maybe.
  9. But totally away from all motorway access points, so therefore awful for commuting. Born and lived in Sheffield all my life. Sheffield is not a good place to live, I would not recommend it to anyone, other than someone I hated I guess. I would look elsewhere. Seriously. I notice the op said But then everyone recommends high budget areas. Which is because they are no good but low budget areas. You will have to pay a lot in rent, which will make it harder to save. Especially when the better areas are not affordable even with well paid Sheffield jobs, of which there are few. Check the job sites and you will see Sheffield has very few well paying jobs compared to Leeds for instance.
  10. I'm sure the students paying extortionate rates for worthless education will be delighted to hear professors are staying in the very best hotels.
  11. No, I'm not pleased to hear more and more money is taken to be wasted. If councils want to have enough money, then stop putting 3-5 sets of traffic lights at every junction, and then another junction 100 yards away, and another and another. Talking of waste, over a third of our tax is to pay council employees pensions! I doubt anyone is pleased about that either, especially those of us who cant afford our own pension but are forced by law to pay others.
  12. So what is your idea Alex? Keep voting Labour? New Labour, old Labour. Its the same. Keep spending money they don't have like its going out of fashion. We need to link voting with paying tax at some level. Whether that be income tax or council tax. Pay no tax, then no vote in how other people's money is spent.
  13. No Paula, No. You misunderstood the topic from your very first post: And if you practise your reading on the other posts, you will see others are agreeing lots of students stay in Sheffield. Which is because their degrees are worthless and a job in a call centre in Sheffield beckons. Just reread the thread, there's plenty of them.
  14. They should roll out some of those realistic dolls, just like the rest of the men will do eventually.
  15. This is the great thing about identity politics. It is all in your own mind, so simply change you mind day by day to get the best results for you. Best way to play the game.
  16. You perhaps need to learn a bit more English. The topic is "Sheffield has the highest retention of Graduates." Retention. That means they don't leave. Sheffield is also known for being a low pay city. So therefore, if lots of graduates are staying in Sheffield after graduation, then their degrees are of low value. Do you happen to be a teacher Paula? How else can we explain your lack of basic comprehension and logic?
  17. Its a tribute to how worthless the degrees from our Unis are, that graduates cannot escape Sheffield to a better paid job elsewhere. Poor kids with huge debts all for a worthless piece of paper.
  18. Has he thought about offering to do odd jobs for neighbours? Like washing car, gardening etc? Papers are dying out with the internet.
  19. Although great for consumers, Amazon is a very nasty company. Nasty to work for, nasty for the community, nasty for the tax base. Small companies cannot compete while paying all the taxes they do and treating their staff fairly. So ultimately they will not, and we can see this effect on our High Street. Once the competition has gone, what will Amazon do? Amazon never makes any money, pays almost nothing in tax, works people till they quit, warns people for going to the toilet too long etc etc
  20. Clegg is a tribute to Sheffield people's bad judgement. 12 Years he was our MP, and they replaced him with someone who was suspended from his own party for the nasty things he said.
  21. Students with money, what special unicorns they must be! The problem with the scene, is it is a solution to a problem that no longer exists. The problem was, how to safely meet other gay people. With Grindr and such apps, it is just not necessary. Sheffield has never managed to have a gay quarter, and that boat has long since sailed. It would be interesting to know how such areas in Manchester and Leeds are faring in the Grindr age. Even in London, many iconic gay venues have closed down.
  22. Start off at home, vodka + mixer, or shots, get some tunes on. Plan to hit town around 11pm as it starts getting busier. If you go into Sheffield sober you are in for an expensive night, and Sheffield and the people look a lot better if you are already drunk.
  23. Many shops open and then close. Running a business is hard in a city that has a large number of poor, be they students or locals. People with cash prefer the bigger choice at Meadowhall, no beggars, or people doing surveys, chuggers, all under cover, and free parking. I was quite surprised to see Hotel Chocolat open in town, and time will tell if it stays there especially after Thorntons have reduced their number of shops.
  24. Because people in Leeds have money to spend. That's why Leeds has Harvey Nichols, Habitat, House of Frazer as well as Queen's court. Where Sheffield has none of those, it did have Habitat and HOF, but both closed down a long time ago.
