I just missed a package been delivered by 15mins on the 29th Nov, I know this because he had shoved a card through the letterbox with the time on it, so I knew the postman would be on the next street, so I went round and caught up with him and asked him for my delivery. He said that he had put it into the returns box at the top of the road, there is'nt one ! I think that they don't bother to bring you your parcels only the card's to save them carrying them. Anyone else had this from the Royal Mail ?

It will be the same thieving gets that pinched my mums and her neighbours front gates last week from Arran Road. The worsed part about them nicking the old coal grates from inside passages, is that you can easily drop through the hole, and even tear your hercules tendon ! I know this because a few years ago my insurance man did this and was off work for months.

Just been to visit my mother on Arran Road, and she had her wrought iron front gate nicked last night, and so did her neighbour. What are they worth in a scrap value ......... probably £1......... theiving gets. Anyone know of any good wrought iron workers that may be interested in making her a new gate, preferably one that does not lift off ?

Hi all, my mother and her neighbour had their garden gnomes stolen from the rear gardens one night last week, they also tried to steal my mums bird table but that was fastened down. I think it might be something to do with the so called ' gardeners' they had in to cut some trees down, after all they would know that the gnomes were there ! No ransom notes received as yet.

Hi all ,filled up my van with diesel on tues 9th at Tescos Abbeydale Road, now it will not go up any hills or accelerate, and it also has thick black smoke puthering out from the exhaust ! Anyone else had this problem or know of anyone ? I've got it booked in to a garage to sort out the problem, and if it is this fuel I will pay Tesco's a visit, I cant afford to be without my van, time is money.

hi there, I live at Crookes and from what I have seen main roads are clear and side roads are passable.

I've just got up this morning and noticed that my full blue wheelie bin, which I put out last night, has been nicked ! I've had a look around and found it on the kids park on Lydgate Lane in the play area, the stupid numptys have torched it and there is part burned paper all over. That play area has just been layed and now it will be damaged......bleedin idiots.

good on you olilew, I live at crookes and last week was turning up into Mulehouse Rd behind a car, when it just stopped outside Beres shop and left me sticking out across the junction..... flamin numpty. People think they can park there on the single yellow on Saturdays, but if they could be bothered to read the signs they will see that they can't. Mon to Sat no parking !

shinyhappy68, I can remember a few of the old shops around Crookes, I think the shop you are referring to may have been ' Alcocks ' wool shop. There were four shops on Cross Lane, ' Prince's, Howcrofts,' and the other two I cant remember. I still live at Crookes, was born here 50 years ago, who knows one day I might leave.

Does anyone remember any of the old characters from Crookes, like ' string vest ' who I think was a grave digger ? always wore a string vest, flat cap and trousers with a larger leather belt. I think he used to drink in the 'Old Grindstone' before it was altered, or 'Magnum Harry' who frequented the Mad House on Lydgate Lane when ' Fixit ' was the landlord. Happy day's !

There is at least eight down that I know of on my road and Arran Road etc. BT engineer has informed me that there is a major fault at the bottom of Lydgate Lane opp The Grindstone, and they are onto it as we speak.

Anyone else in the Crookes area got phone problems as in ' dead line ' ? tried to report it today, never got through but spent nearly £5.00 on the call. Soddin BT.
